Apple already announced the additional commitment on August 6, 2025. The pledge raised Apple’s stated U.S. investment commitment from more than $500 billion to $600 billion over four years and introduced the American Manufacturing Program. It expands domestic production of components, semiconductors, equipment, magnets, servers and other technology inputs—but it is not a promise to assemble all iPhones in the United States.
What Apple announced
On February 24, 2025, Apple said it planned to spend and invest more than $500 billion in the United States over four years. Read the original announcement at Apple’s February 2025 release.
On August 6, 2025, Apple described an additional $100 billion commitment, taking its stated four-year total to $600 billion. The announcement also created the American Manufacturing Program, intended to persuade suppliers—including overseas-based companies—to expand production in the United States. Apple’s announcement is available at Apple’s August 2025 release.
Apple calls the $100 billion new or additional money. However, its public materials do not provide a project-by-project accounting that independently reconciles every dollar with the February pledge. The stated total also includes more than factory construction: supplier activity, purchases, direct hiring, research, silicon engineering, artificial-intelligence infrastructure, corporate facilities, education and workforce development.

What the American Manufacturing Program covers
Apple initially named Corning, Coherent, GlobalWafers America, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments, Samsung, GlobalFoundries, Amkor and Broadcom as participants. The projects span the supply chain from raw materials and wafers to chip fabrication, packaging, testing and finished servers.

Houston provides the clearest early evidence of implementation
Apple’s February 2026 update said advanced AI-server production in Houston had started in 2025 and was ahead of schedule. The company said Mac mini production was planned for Houston later in 2026 and that a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center would open there later in the year. The same update said Apple was on track to purchase well over 100 million advanced chips made by TSMC in Arizona in 2026. It also described Amkor’s Arizona packaging project. Those commitments create U.S. demand for wafers, fabrication, packaging, testing and equipment even when final consumer-device assembly remains elsewhere.
How many jobs and factories are involved?
Apple said its suppliers and partners supported more than 450,000 jobs across all 50 states and that manufacturing activity involved 79 U.S. factories. It also planned to hire 20,000 people directly in the United States over four years.

The 20,000 figure should not be read as 20,000 new factory-floor positions. Apple said most direct hires would work in research and development, silicon engineering, software, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Supplier-supported employment is also different from Apple’s own payroll.
Does this mean iPhones will be made in America?
No broad U.S. iPhone-assembly commitment was announced. The disclosed projects cover components such as glass, lasers and magnets; semiconductor wafers, fabrication equipment, chips, packaging and testing; and Apple’s servers and planned Mac mini production.

Manufacturing “in the United States” can therefore mean several different steps:
- fabricating glass, magnets or lasers;
- making silicon wafers and semiconductor equipment;
- fabricating chips;
- packaging and testing chips;
- assembling servers or selected computers; or
- assembling a complete consumer device.
Apple’s announcement primarily concerns the first five categories and does not say that mass-market iPhone final assembly will move from established Asian production centers to the United States. The distinction is also noted in reporting by The Associated Press.

What the $600 billion figure does—and does not—tell you
It is a four-year commitment
The $600 billion is Apple’s stated investment commitment over four years, not money to be spent immediately or a single construction budget.
It combines different types of activity
The total can include Apple’s direct spending, supplier investments, procurement agreements, hiring, infrastructure, research and other U.S. economic activity. Apple has not published a complete schedule showing the annual amount, the direct-capital-expenditure share or the exact financing of each supplier project.
Supplier investment is not Apple-owned factory investment
Many facilities belong to suppliers or partners. Apple can support them through purchases, agreements or demand without owning or financing every dollar of construction.
Why the pledge matters
- Supply-chain resilience: More U.S. capacity can reduce geographic concentration for critical chips, packaging, magnets and other inputs.
- Strategic semiconductor capacity: Domestic wafers, fabrication and advanced packaging provide alternatives to relying entirely on overseas production.
- Higher operating costs: U.S. labor, construction, compliance and energy costs can exceed those in established Asian manufacturing hubs.
- Long ramp-up periods: Fabs, packaging plants and recycling lines take years to build and qualify at scale.
- Policy exposure: Projects connected to incentives, tariffs or political pressure may be affected by future policy changes.
- Measurement limits: A headline total combining purchases, hiring and supplier activity is not directly comparable with a company-owned factory budget.
Timeline and accountability

What remains unanswered
- The annual spending schedule through the end of the four-year period.
- How much of the $600 billion is Apple’s direct capital spending versus supplier investment, purchasing and other activity.
- Final direct and supplier job counts once projects are fully operational.
- Which announced facilities have reached commercial-scale production at each location.
- Whether any future announcement will cover mass U.S. assembly of iPhones or other flagship devices.
The Bottom Line
Apple’s August 6, 2025 announcement is a substantial expansion of the U.S. technology supply chain, raising its stated four-year commitment to $600 billion. It supports domestic chips, wafers, packaging, glass, magnets, lasers, equipment, servers and workforce development. It does not amount to a pledge to manufacture complete iPhones in the United States, and the public record does not independently break down every dollar of the additional $100 billion.
