The financing gave the Palo Alto startup a reported $35 million post-money valuation and included Kleiner Perkins, Greycroft, Offline Ventures, Slow Ventures, Bling Capital, Amino Capital and Acquired Wisdom Fund.
Dazzle says it is developing more intuitive AI tools for everyday life. TechCrunch has described the reported direction as next-generation AI personal assistants, but Dazzle has not publicly specified a product, launch date, pricing, supported devices or consumer availability in the company’s funding announcement.
The financing: what Dazzle announced
Dazzle AI is a Palo Alto, California, startup founded in 2025 by Marissa Mayer, who is also its chief executive. The company said the $8 million seed financing will fund team expansion and preparation for its first product launch. The announcement is available from Dazzle and in a Business Wire release.
| Deal detail | What is established |
|---|---|
| Announcement date | December 23, 2025 |
| Round | Seed |
| Amount | $8 million |
| Announced post-money valuation | $35 million |
| Lead investor | Forerunner Ventures, led on the round by Kirsten Green |
| Other named participants | Kleiner Perkins, Greycroft, Offline Ventures, Slow Ventures, Bling Capital, Amino Capital and Acquired Wisdom Fund |

The release does not disclose individual check sizes, ownership percentages, liquidation preferences, the security issued or the size of Dazzle’s option pool. The $35 million figure is the post-money valuation announced for this seed round, not proof of a later or current company valuation. As a simple, non-binding illustration, $8 million divided by $35 million is about 22.9%; actual dilution can differ because of financing structure and capitalization terms.

What Dazzle says it is building
Dazzle’s stated mission is to narrow the gap between what people want to do and what they can do with AI. Mayer has framed foundation models as infrastructure and applications as the next frontier, with an emphasis on technology that is simpler, smarter and more approachable in daily life.
TechCrunch reported that the company is working on the next generation of AI personal assistants and was expected to emerge from stealth in early 2026. That is a reported product direction, not a detailed specification from Dazzle. The available announcement does not establish whether Dazzle is a chatbot, an action-taking agent, an operating system layer or a general-purpose assistant.

How Dazzle connects to Sunshine
Dazzle is not unrelated to Mayer’s earlier startup. Mayer co-founded Lumi Labs in 2018; the company later became Sunshine. Sunshine began with Sunshine Contacts, then expanded into event management and the AI-powered photo-sharing product Shine.
In September 2025, TechCrunch reported that Sunshine was being shut down, its assets were being transferred to Dazzle and its employees were moving to the new company. The report said Dazzle’s team began prototyping its new project during summer 2025. This is best understood as a transition of people, assets and experience rather than proof that Dazzle is simply a renamed Sunshine.
TechCrunch reported that Sunshine had raised about $20 million. It also described limited traction: Sunshine Contacts drew privacy criticism over enriching contact information from public databases, while the later products reportedly failed to attract broad usage. Mayer was reported as saying that Sunshine’s investors received 10% of Dazzle’s equity when Sunshine was dissolved. That percentage is an attributed statement, not a financing term independently confirmed in Dazzle’s funding announcement.
Why Kirsten Green’s investment matters
Green is a founding partner at Forerunner Ventures, an investor known for consumer technology. TechCrunch connected her Dazzle investment to Forerunner’s view that consumer AI could become a major opportunity after enterprise applications received much of the market’s early attention.
Forerunner’s prior consumer investments have included Warby Parker, Chime and Dollar Shave Club, according to TechCrunch. That background makes Green a strategically relevant lead for a consumer-facing AI company: Dazzle will need to win users, build trust and develop repeat behavior, not merely demonstrate a capable model.
The backing is a meaningful signal of investor conviction, but it is not evidence of product-market fit, user adoption or commercial success. The release does not say how much Forerunner or any other participant invested individually.

Mayer’s experience—and the test ahead
TechCrunch describes Mayer as Google’s 20th employee. At Google, she worked on search’s design and “look and feel” and oversaw work associated with Google Maps and AdWords. She later served as Yahoo’s CEO for five years.
That background is relevant because Dazzle’s stated challenge is a consumer-product one: making powerful technology understandable and useful at scale. It also raises the bar for execution. Sunshine’s closure and reported difficulty gaining broad usage mean Dazzle will be judged not only on Mayer’s reputation, but on whether the new company can turn an attractive AI concept into a product people repeatedly use.
The questions that will determine Dazzle’s business
What does the assistant actually do?
A useful assistant must solve recurring problems better than existing apps and platform features. Until Dazzle discloses concrete workflows, users cannot assess whether its advantage is intelligence, convenience, personalization or a new interface.
How will it earn trust?
An assistant embedded in daily routines could request access to contacts, calendars, messages, photos, location or other sensitive information. Dazzle had not publicly detailed those data practices in the reviewed materials. Permission controls, security, retention and the ability to review or undo actions will be central to adoption.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow will it reach users?
Consumer AI competes with operating-system and device incumbents that already control distribution. Dazzle will need a clear reason for users to install or choose a new service rather than use an assistant bundled with a phone, browser or productivity suite.
Can it act reliably?
If Dazzle eventually performs actions rather than only generating answers, mistakes create different risks: unauthorized changes, incorrect messages, privacy breaches and unclear accountability. Reliability and confirmation design may matter as much as model quality.
What evidence should investors and users watch?
- A public product with clearly described capabilities
- Independent evidence of retention and repeat usage
- Transparent privacy and security policies
- A defined pricing or business model
- Distribution partnerships or a credible path around platform gatekeepers
- Follow-on financing tied to measurable product milestones
What happens next
Dazzle said the seed money would support hiring and preparation for a first launch. TechCrunch expected an early-2026 emergence from stealth, but the available sources do not establish that Dazzle became generally available, nor do they provide current pricing or a signup path. The next substantive proof point is therefore not another mission statement; it is a disclosed product that users can try and evaluate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Has Dazzle AI launched a public product?
The available company announcement does not establish a generally available product, pricing or signup flow. TechCrunch reported an expected early-2026 emergence from stealth, but that is not confirmation of a public launch.

Who invested in Dazzle’s seed round?
Forerunner Ventures led the round through Kirsten Green. Named participants were Kleiner Perkins, Greycroft, Offline Ventures, Slow Ventures, Bling Capital, Amino Capital and Acquired Wisdom Fund.
Is Dazzle the same company as Sunshine?
No. Dazzle was announced as a new company founded in 2025, while TechCrunch reported that Sunshine was shut down and its assets and employees moved to Dazzle.
The Bottom Line
Dazzle has credible early backing, a prominent consumer-technology investor and a founder with deep product experience. But the investment case remains a bet on Mayer’s team, timing and an as-yet-undisclosed consumer AI product—not evidence that Dazzle has already found product-market fit.
