The Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra received an official international launch on February 28, 2026, but the China-launched Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max remain absent from Xiaomi’s global announcement and official phone catalog. That matters because Xiaomi says the two Pro models generated more than 80% of Xiaomi 17-series sales during its first-month China comparison.
What was the Xiaomi 17 sales milestone?
The Xiaomi 17 series passed one million units sold in China in approximately its first week. China sales began on September 27, 2025, and the milestone was announced by Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing, as reported by Notebookcheck.
The figure is a China-market sales announcement, not an independently audited worldwide sell-through result. “Sales” should not be treated as interchangeable with shipments, advance orders or retail sell-through; Xiaomi’s public statement does not provide a separate audited breakdown of those measures. Xiaomi said the pace was faster than the comparable Xiaomi 15-series milestone.
How strong was performance beyond the one-million headline?
Xiaomi’s corporate filing provides a more defined comparison. For the statistical period from September 25, 2025, at 19:00 through October 26, 2025, at 23:59, Xiaomi reported that Xiaomi 17-series sales in China were nearly 30% higher year over year than Xiaomi 15-series sales. The same filing said the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max together represented more than 80% of total series sales in that period.

Those figures are Xiaomi’s reported China comparison, not global results or an independent market audit. They nevertheless show that the Pro models were not a minor variant: they made up the clear majority of the reported first-month mix. See the company’s corporate filing for the defined period and methodology.
Why the Pro models mattered
The China lineup consisted of the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The Pro phones introduced Xiaomi’s Dynamic Back Display, a rear screen designed for functions such as main-camera selfies, changing information and visual customization. That rear display is the feature most likely to make the Pro models attractive to enthusiasts—and the reason the global omission is more significant than a routine regional trim.

Does the catalog omission prove the Pro models were canceled?
No. It establishes the current official global lineup, not a permanent cancellation. A contemporaneous report cited leaker Chunvn8888 as saying the Pro models were not planned for global release, but that is an unconfirmed leak. Xiaomi has not announced worldwide availability for either model, and it has not publicly said that a later regional release is impossible.
Possible business explanations include a simpler international range built around the standard model and camera-focused Ultra, avoiding overlap with the Ultra, or the extra certification, carrier, localization, inventory and support work associated with a distinct rear-display design. Those are industry analysis, not stated reasons from Xiaomi.

If you want an official global phone
Start with Xiaomi’s local regional site rather than assuming that a European specification or price applies in your country. Check LTE and 5G bands, warranty terms, charger inclusion, storage, contactless payments, eSIM support, HyperOS functions and AI-service eligibility. Xiaomi notes that availability and features can vary by region.

If you are considering a China import
An imported Xiaomi 17 Pro or Pro Max may be the only route to the rear display, but it is not equivalent to an official global purchase. Verify the exact model and seller for China-region firmware, available languages, Google-service setup, cellular-band compatibility, bootloader or ROM restrictions, warranty, Android Auto, notifications, banking apps, charger plug, repairs and resale. Do not assume that flashing global firmware is safe or officially supported.
If the rear display is your priority
The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max are the relevant devices. The globally listed Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra should not be presented as substitutes for that hardware feature. Waiting for a formal Xiaomi announcement is the lower-risk option; importing is a trade-off between access and support uncertainty.
Bottom line
The underlying sales story was real: Xiaomi reported a China one-million-unit milestone, nearly 30% first-month growth over the Xiaomi 15 comparison and an over-80% Pro/Pro Max share. The later global launch, however, was narrower than the China lineup. Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra went international on February 28, 2026; the Pro and Pro Max remain unlisted globally, with no official confirmation of a worldwide release.
