What counts as the best deal?
The current generation is the M5 MacBook Air in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes. Apple’s listed configurations include 16GB or more unified memory, 512GB or larger SSD options, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, MagSafe 3, two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack. Apple’s June 2026 price increase makes older retailer inventory unusually important. A retailer may be holding stock bought at an earlier cost rather than running a temporary holiday promotion; older Apple list prices can therefore exaggerate the apparent savings. Rank offers by effective value: compare the same chip, screen size, memory and SSD, then account for cash price, gift cards, required membership or credit card, shipping, tax, warranty and return rights. A $150 reduction on a useful 16GB/512GB base model can beat a $300 reduction on an expensive 24GB/1TB configuration you do not need.

Best 13-inch MacBook Air deals
M5 13-inch, 16GB/512GB
This is the default target for students, commuters, travelers and office users. It combines the current platform with a portable chassis and enough memory and storage for long ownership. Buy immediately when it reaches about $949, or when a verified $999–$1,099 offer is available and stock or delivery matters.
M4 13-inch, 16GB/256GB or 512GB
An M4 13-inch is a bargain when it is at least $150 cheaper than a comparable M5. Prefer 512GB if the price gap is modest; choose 256GB only for web, email, schoolwork and cloud storage. Avoid 8GB listings for a new long-term purchase unless the use is genuinely light and the discount is substantial.
Refurbished 13-inch
Apple has shown a refurbished 13-inch M5 at $1,099 versus $1,299, a $200 reduction, on one listing. Inventory changes by color, memory and storage, so treat that figure as an example rather than a standing price. Browse Apple Certified Refurbished inventory.

Best 15-inch MacBook Air deals
M5 15-inch, 16GB/512GB
The larger display is the reason to pay more: it helps with spreadsheets, split-screen work, photo editing and video timelines when you do not use an external monitor. It does not automatically deliver proportionally higher performance when the chip and memory are otherwise the same. Aim for $1,099 or less, with $1,199–$1,349 reasonable when the configuration and retailer protections are strong.
24GB/1TB configurations
Buy 24GB memory and 1TB storage for sustained multitasking, development or regular creative work only when the discount is substantial. Apple’s upgrade premiums are high; compare the upgraded Air with a base model plus an external SSD, and with a MacBook Pro if workloads are continuously CPU-intensive.

Apple says Certified Refurbished products receive a refurbishment process, a one-year limited warranty, 14-day returns and possible AppleCare eligibility. M5 versus M4: which should you buy?

M4 is not obsolete. For ordinary productivity, memory, storage, price and warranty can matter more than the chip label. Do not compare an M5 8GB/256GB listing with an M4 16GB/512GB model and call the cheaper product the better deal.
How much memory and storage do you need?

Unified memory is normally fixed after purchase, so prioritize RAM over color or small cosmetic upgrades. Storage can be extended with an external SSD or cloud service, although internal storage is faster and more convenient.

Apple is best for guaranteed configurations, custom orders, trade-in and direct support. Its U.S. policy generally allows returns within 14 days of receipt. A qualifying price reduction within 14 calendar days may receive an adjustment, but limited-time reductions and special events such as Black Friday are excluded; read the current retail policy.

Amazon
Amazon’s prices and stock can move quickly. Open the exact product page and verify seller, condition, model year, chip, memory, SSD, delivery date, warranty and the listing-specific return terms. A search-result price is not enough evidence.
Best Buy
Best Buy can be valuable for local pickup, open-box units, Geek Squad Certified Refurbished inventory, price matching where eligible and clearance of prior generations. Its sale pages have shown both M5 products and refurbished M4/M2 stock, so label model year and condition clearly. Check the sale search and MacBook Air category.
Costco
Costco can add member pricing or promotions, but stock and product-specific return terms vary. Confirm whether the price requires membership, whether inventory is warehouse-only or shipped, and how warranty service is handled. Do not assume a blanket return period.
Walmart and marketplace sellers
Use Walmart or another retailer when the item is sold and shipped by the retailer or a clearly reputable seller. Distinguish new, open-box and refurbished condition; check for imported keyboards or chargers, non-U.S. models, seller-only warranties and different return rules. See Walmart’s electronics category.
Buy now or wait for Black Friday?
Buy now when
- The exact configuration meets the threshold table.
- It is in stock with a usable return policy.
- You need a delivery date, a specific color or a custom configuration.
- You are buying a gift and can keep the return window aligned with opening day.
Wait when
- The discount is modest and you are flexible on color, storage and retailer.
- The product is not needed before November.
- You are willing to monitor prices rather than rely on a holiday label.
Black Friday may be cheaper, but that cannot be verified in August. A current clearance price can beat a later promotion after Apple’s 2026 price reset. Students should also compare education pricing and seasonal student promotions separately from general holiday sales.
Deal-check checklist
- Record the chip and model year.
- Confirm screen size, unified memory and SSD capacity.
- Identify new, open-box, refurbished or used condition.
- Verify the seller of record and whether the warranty is Apple-backed or seller-provided.
- Read the exact return deadline and any restocking or membership requirement.
- Check delivery or pickup status and whether the price excludes tax.
- Confirm keyboard layout, charger, regional model and accessory contents for imported listings.
- Screenshot the product and order pages, then keep all packaging until the return period ends.
Apple trade-in values depend on device eligibility and condition; compare the guaranteed credit with a private-sale value before treating it as a discount. AppleCare+ is optional—review current terms at Apple’s Mac support page rather than assuming it pays off for every buyer.
