That was $250 below the cited $1,199 reference price and the lowest price reported by multiple deal publications at that time. It is not a current Cyber Monday offer in August 2026, and the old price should not be treated as live without checking the exact Amazon listing.
What the $949 deal actually was
The discount applied to the 2025 15-inch MacBook Air with an Apple M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD. PC Guide reported the $949 Amazon price on November 29, 2025, while Tom’s Guide separately reported the same price and configuration in its Black Friday coverage.

Apple 2026 MacBook Air 15-inch Laptop with M5 chip: Built for AI, 15.3-inch Liquid Retina Display,... | $1,299.00 | Buy on Amazon |
Apple’s specifications identify this model as having a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, a 15.3-inch display and a 256GB starting SSD. Confirm that an Amazon listing is a new U.S. model rather than a renewed unit, a different color or a higher-memory/storage configuration before comparing its price.
PC Guide’s November 2025 report and Tom’s Guide’s report both described $949 as the lowest price at the time of publication.

Was $949 really the lowest-ever price?
The evidence supports calling $949 a new reported low at the time, not an unconditional record for every Amazon listing and every date. Laptop Mag and Notebookcheck had reported $1,049 for the 15-inch M4 Air in April 2025:
That earlier $1,049 price makes the later $949 offer a lower reported price for the comparable base model. However, “lowest-ever” can refer to one publication’s tracking window or one Amazon ASIN. Amazon prices also vary by seller, condition, color, region, stock and on-page coupons. Price-history pages may track renewed products or different 24GB/512GB variants, which are not equivalent to the new 16GB/256GB model.
How much did shoppers save?
| Reference | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cited list/reference price | $1,199 |
| Reported November 2025 deal price | $949 |
| Gross saving | $250 |
| Percentage reduction | Approximately 20.9%, commonly shown as 21% |
The arithmetic is $1,199 minus $949, or $250. The percentage applies only to that cited $1,199 reference price; a different live price or reference price changes the calculation.
What you get for the money
The 15-inch Air’s main reason to choose it over the smaller model is workspace. Apple lists a 15.3-inch, 2880×1864 display with 500-nit brightness, wide P3 color and True Tone. The larger panel is useful for split-screen documents, spreadsheets, timelines and media.
Apple rates the machine for up to 18 hours of video streaming and up to 15 hours of wireless web use under its test conditions. Those are controlled specifications, not a guaranteed runtime for every workload. The laptop remains fanless and positioned below the MacBook Pro in display refresh rate, sustained performance and port selection.
The catches to consider
256GB storage
The base SSD is only 256GB. Creative applications, games, virtual machines, photos and video can consume that capacity quickly. Apple offers larger storage options, but the upgrade cost is substantial and the storage cannot be added later.
Memory is not upgradeable
Unified memory is built into the system. The base has 16GB; Apple also sells 24GB and 32GB configurations. Choose the capacity you expect to need for the laptop’s entire useful life.
Display and ports
The Air uses a 60Hz display rather than the 120Hz ProMotion panel on MacBook Pro models. It has two Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack. Apple lists support for up to two external displays under specified conditions, but buyers needing built-in HDMI, an SD card slot or more ports will need adapters or a Pro model.

15-inch versus 13-inch: which size makes sense?
| Choose the 15-inch Air if… | Choose the 13-inch Air if… |
|---|---|
| You regularly use split-screen apps, large spreadsheets or editing timelines. | Portability, smaller bags and frequent travel matter most. |
| You want the largest MacBook Air workspace without moving to a Pro. | You prefer a lower entry price and a smaller footprint. |
| The extra size is worth the typically higher price. | You can work comfortably on a smaller display or use an external monitor. |
Both are in the M4 Air family, but do not compare prices without matching memory, storage, condition and seller. A cheaper 13-inch or renewed listing is not the same product as a new 15-inch 16GB/256GB model.
Who should buy the 15-inch M4 Air?
- Good fit: students, writers, office and browser-heavy users, developers, and anyone wanting macOS, long battery life and a large built-in screen.
- Consider more storage: photographers, video editors, gamers, virtual-machine users and people planning to keep the laptop for many years.
- Consider a MacBook Pro or another platform: professionals needing sustained workstation workloads, serious 3D gaming, a 120Hz display, extensive ports or Windows-only software.
Amazon checklist before checkout
- Verify the listing says 2025 15-inch MacBook Air with an M4 chip.
- Confirm 16GB unified memory and 256GB SSD, unless you intentionally chose an upgrade.
- Check that the condition is new, not renewed or refurbished.
- Review the seller, fulfillment method, U.S. keyboard and warranty terms.
- Check whether a coupon must be selected on the product page.
- Compare the final checkout total, including tax, shipping and regional availability.
- Confirm the return window and make sure stock has not switched to a third-party offer.
Bottom line for shoppers in 2026
$949 was an excellent historical price for a new 15-inch M4 MacBook Air with 16GB memory and 256GB storage. It was reported as the lowest comparable price at the time, following earlier $1,049 reports. As of August 18, 2026, it is not a verified live Cyber Monday deal. Buy only after matching the exact configuration, condition, seller and current checkout price; if the 256GB SSD is likely to be tight, pay for a higher-storage configuration instead of treating the old headline price as the deciding factor.
For official specifications, see Apple’s technical specifications. Apple’s refurbished store is a separate market with different inventory and warranty terms; its listings should not be presented as new Amazon stock.
