You may still owe sales tax on the full device price, a device-connection charge, and wireless-service costs. The advertised Apple Watch discount is a separate buy-two promotion: buy one eligible Apple Watch, add a qualifying wearable line, and receive up to $300 in credits on a second eligible watch. T-Mobile’s reviewed terms do not confirm every Apple Watch Series 10 configuration, so verify the exact case, connectivity version and promotion in your cart before paying.
What “free iPhone 16” means at T-Mobile
T-Mobile’s “On Us” language generally means the financed device cost is offset by promotional credits over 24 months. It does not mean a zero-dollar checkout or free cellular service.
- Full device price: T-Mobile promotional material references approximately $729.99 for an iPhone 16 128GB; storage, model and location can change the price. See T-Mobile’s promotional details.
- Upfront charges: Sales tax is normally calculated on the pre-credit price. Relevant T-Mobile terms also show a $35 device-connection charge, although the amount can vary by channel or promotion. A down payment may apply.
- Service requirement: You must keep the qualifying voice plan and any required line, trade-in and account status for the entire credit period.
- Credit timing: Credits can take up to two billing cycles to appear.
If you cancel service, change to an ineligible plan, pay off the device early or otherwise stop meeting the promotion’s conditions, future credits can end and the remaining installment balance may become due. Carrier-financed iPhones can also remain locked until paid in full; Apple’s direct-purchase rules are different. See Apple’s T-Mobile financing information.
Which iPhone 16 promotion applies to you?
There is no single universal iPhone 16 deal. T-Mobile lists separate trade-in, new-line, new-service and targeted offers, and eligibility can depend on the account, plan, credit approval, sales channel and promotion code.

Existing T-Mobile customers
- Sign in and check the exact plan name and upgrade eligibility.
- Confirm whether your offer requires a trade-in, a new line or only an upgrade on an existing line.
- Read the condition rule: some promotions require a phone in good condition, while “any condition” language applies only to particular offers.
- Save the quoted credit amount and promotion code before submitting the order.
People switching to T-Mobile
- Verify the qualifying plan and whether a new voice line is mandatory.
- Confirm that your number and current carrier qualify for a port-in promotion.
- Check whether the phone must be purchased through T-Mobile, Apple’s T-Mobile activation channel or another specified channel.
- Do not assume approval or the maximum credit until the checkout quote confirms it.
Business accounts
T-Mobile Business promotions have separate plan, account and connection requirements. Business marketing may use similar “buy one, gift another” wording, but it should not be used to interpret a consumer order. Review T-Mobile’s business Apple offers separately.
Trade-in rules that determine the credit
The live eligibility tool, not a generic model list, determines your trade-in value. Check these points before shipping the phone:
- Exact model, storage and condition requirements.
- Whether the phone powers on, has an intact display and is free of activation locks.
- Whether the phone must be paid off before trade-in.
- The deadline and shipping method for returning it.
- The difference between an instant trade-in value and the separate promotional bill credits.
A phone’s private-sale value may exceed T-Mobile’s trade-in value. Compare both before accepting the convenience of carrier financing.

- Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
How to order the iPhone 16 and preserve the promotion
- Sign in to your T-Mobile account, or start a new order at T-Mobile.com.
- Select the exact iPhone 16 model, storage, color and sales channel.
- Choose monthly device payments if the offer requires financing.
- Enter the trade-in model and condition and record the quoted value.
- Confirm the promotional credit, qualifying plan, new-line requirement and port-in requirement before checkout.
- Review the total for sales tax, the device-connection or activation charge, any down payment and first-month service.
- Complete activation and ship the trade-in by the stated deadline.
- Photograph the device, packaging and tracking receipt.
- Compare the first two bills with the installment agreement. If credits are missing after two billing cycles, investigate before canceling, changing plans or paying off the phone.
How the Apple Watch “$300 off” promotion works
The consumer offer is not a general $300 discount on one watch. T-Mobile’s reviewed terms identify promotion ID 260368 and promo code R646 with up to $12.50 per month for 24 months—a maximum of $300—when the requirements are met.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Purchase one eligible Apple Watch on a monthly payment plan.
- Purchase a second eligible Apple Watch in the same qualifying transaction.
- Add the required qualifying wearable line. Some versions require two or more total qualifying lines.
- Keep the line and account in good standing for the 24-month credit period.
The credit applies to the lower-priced device in the buy-two transaction and cannot exceed $300. A second watch costing more than $300 leaves you responsible for the difference, while a watch costing $299.99 or less could have its device installments fully offset. You still pay applicable taxes and the wearable service.
Does Apple Watch Series 10 qualify?
Do not treat Series 10 eligibility as automatic. The current terms reviewed say “eligible Apple Watch” and “second eligible Apple Watch” without enumerating every Series 10 stock-keeping unit.

Before paying, verify:
- Case size and color.
- GPS versus GPS + Cellular configuration.
- Whether T-Mobile still sells that exact configuration.
- Whether it is eligible as the first watch, the second watch or both.
- Whether the lower-priced-device cap reduces the credit below $300.
- Whether inventory is available.
Add both watches to the cart, add the qualifying line and confirm that the expected monthly credit appears before submitting the order. The consumer Apple deals page is T-Mobile’s Apple offer page; the promotion’s detailed terms remain the controlling source.
Calculate the real cost
Suppose the wearable plan shown in the reviewed terms is at least $15 per month with AutoPay. Over 24 months, that service signal is about $360 before taxes and fees (24 × $15). That cost is separate from the $300 device credit. The actual plan price, AutoPay conditions and taxes must be confirmed at checkout.
The same principle applies to the iPhone: a $729.99 device covered by credits can still generate sales tax at purchase, a connection charge and 24 months of required service. “$300 off” is a financing credit, not cash back, and “on us” is not an unlocked phone at no cost.

When the offers make sense
- You already have a qualifying plan and expect to stay for all 24 months.
- Your trade-in would not sell for substantially more elsewhere.
- You genuinely need two Apple Watches and the second-device credit exceeds the added wearable-service cost.
- You can afford the tax and other upfront charges.
When to avoid or reconsider
- You may switch carriers before the credits finish.
- You want an unlocked iPhone immediately.
- You are buying only one Apple Watch.
- The required plan costs more than your current service.
- You specifically need Series 10 but the cart does not list your configuration as eligible.
- You are relying on the September 2024 launch announcement rather than the current account-specific offer.
Buying directly from Apple at Apple’s iPhone store is generally better for an unlocked device, but it will not reproduce T-Mobile’s promotional credits. T-Mobile’s Apple Watch category is at T-Mobile’s Apple Watch page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do if credits do not appear
- Check the order confirmation for the promotion code and quoted credit.
- Check trade-in tracking, delivery and inspection status.
- Compare the installment agreement with the promotional-credit line on the bill.
- Confirm that the correct line, plan, port-in and purchase channel were used.
- Allow up to two billing cycles, then contact T-Mobile before canceling or changing service.
- Keep screenshots, receipts, chat transcripts and tracking records.
Paying off the phone or watch early can end future credits. Canceling the account or wearable line can do the same and may make the remaining balance due. Terms also state that a wearable line canceled within the previous 90 days may need to be reactivated before qualifying.
Historical context
T-Mobile’s September 2024 iPhone 16 announcement promoted iPhone 16 “On Us” with qualifying trade-ins and $300 off a second Apple Watch. That announcement is historical; it does not establish the offer available on August 18, 2026. Check the live account offer and detailed terms instead: T-Mobile’s announcement.
