Short answer: no—not at scale, and not according to any verified Amazon announcement. Amazon is expanding robotics across its logistics network and reportedly testing software and facilities for possible humanoid delivery applications. But the confirmed deployments are mainly specialized warehouse systems, and Amazon has not announced a date, fleet or program that replaces delivery drivers with humanoid robots.
The clearest evidence, as of August 18, 2026, points to task automation and experimentation rather than a nationwide driver-replacement rollout.
What sparked the humanoid-delivery claim?
In June 2025, Reuters reported that Amazon was developing software for humanoid robots and a controlled testing environment—sometimes described as a “humanoid park”—to examine whether such machines could eventually perform package-delivery work. The report cited a person familiar with the project; it was not an Amazon announcement of a commercial launch.
That distinction matters. A test environment can establish that Amazon is investigating a use case. It does not establish a regular route, customer-facing pilot, autonomous operation or a timetable for replacing drivers. The reported concept could involve a humanoid robot being transported in or near a vehicle and handling only the walking-and-handoff portion of a route, while a person or another system handles driving and supervision.

What Amazon is actually operating today
Amazon’s robotics program is much larger than its humanoid research. On June 30, 2025, Amazon said it had deployed its one-millionth robot across more than 300 facilities. That figure covers the company’s overall operational fleet, not one million humanoid delivery machines.
The fleet includes machines designed for specific warehouse jobs:
- Proteus: an autonomous mobile robot for moving through fulfillment areas.
- Sequoia: an inventory-storage and fulfillment system.
- Sparrow and Cardinal: robotic arms and handling systems.
- Vulcan: a robot designed to add tactile handling for difficult warehouse tasks.
- DeepFleet: an AI coordination system intended to improve robot travel efficiency. Amazon says it could improve travel efficiency by 10%; that is a company-stated projected benefit, not an independently verified universal result.
Amazon’s one-million-robot announcement is available at Amazon’s operations site. These systems illustrate an important economic point: Amazon generally automates a defined movement, lift, sort or storage task with equipment built for that task. A general-purpose humanoid is only one possible design.

Digit’s human-scale, two-legged form is intended to operate in spaces built for people, including areas with existing shelves, corners and pathways. Amazon’s announcement described a collaborative system working alongside employees; it did not announce Digit as a replacement for delivery drivers or as a company-wide rollout.
The manufacturer and relationship are described by Amazon and Agility Robotics. Calling Digit “an Amazon robot” is imprecise: Agility makes the platform, while Amazon has tested it and expanded its relationship with the company.
Why warehouse automation is ahead of doorstep delivery
Fulfillment centers provide the conditions robots need: fixed layouts, controlled access, predictable lighting, mapped routes and nearby human support. Tasks such as moving totes, staging packages and feeding sortation equipment can be measured and repeated thousands of times.
Doorstep delivery is an unstructured field operation. A driver may need to handle:
- stairs, elevators, locked gates, intercoms and access codes;
- rain, snow, ice, flooding, mud, construction and poor lighting;
- dogs, pedestrians, children, vehicles and other hazards;
- rural addresses, hidden entrances and contradictory customer instructions;
- signatures, age-restricted goods, identity checks, returns and delivery disputes;
- packages that are oversized, fragile, leaking, unusually shaped or immediately rejected.
A robot that performs well on a controlled warehouse floor or test course may still require remote human intervention when any of these exceptions occurs. That is why a demonstration should not be treated as proof of fully autonomous last-mile delivery.

What “replace humans” could mean
Warehouse jobs
Warehouse roles are the most exposed to task substitution because much of the work is repetitive, indoor and connected to fixed infrastructure. Amazon says its robotics programs aim to reduce repetitive or ergonomically difficult work and help employees move toward quality control, troubleshooting and other responsibilities. That framing does not prove that no jobs will disappear, but it does show that Amazon publicly describes the systems as a combination of employee support and task automation.
Amazon’s employee-focused description appears in its 2025 delivery and robotics overview.
Delivery-station and sorting work
This middle layer may see automation before driving does. Robots can potentially sort parcels, scan labels, move containers, load or unload equipment and stage packages for routes. Several specialized systems may replace parts of a job more economically than one general-purpose humanoid.
Delivery drivers
A humanoid could eventually handle a limited walking-and-handoff segment while a human drives, a remote operator supervises or an autonomous vehicle supplies transport. That would be partial task replacement, not necessarily elimination of the driver role. Full replacement would require reliable transport, navigation, access, package handling, customer interaction, exception management and recovery from failures.
New and redesigned work
Automation can reduce labor demand for some tasks while increasing demand for robotics technicians, fleet managers, safety staff, remote operators, data specialists and maintenance workers. The employment result depends on deployment scale, package volume, productivity gains and whether Amazon reallocates workers or reduces headcount.

Why Amazon might choose a humanoid form
A humanoid can, in theory, use environments and tools designed for people: stairs, doors, handles, carts, shelves and vehicle interiors. That flexibility could matter where rebuilding every facility or delivery point would cost more than adapting a general-purpose machine.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBut humanlike movement is not automatically the cheapest or most reliable option. A wheeled mobile robot, robotic arm, conveyor, locker, autonomous vehicle or purpose-built delivery device may outperform a humanoid on a narrow, repeatable task. Amazon’s broader strategy suggests that the objective is task automation, not humanoid robots everywhere.
Other Amazon robotics milestones—and their limits
Amazon announced Blue Jay in October 2025 as a multi-arm system that handled approximately 75% of the various item types at a South Carolina test facility. In an update dated February 25, 2026, Amazon said Blue Jay was no longer being used in operations, although the underlying technology would continue supporting employees. A discontinued operational system is a reminder that demonstrations and pilots do not automatically become permanent deployments.
Amazon has also highlighted AI systems for delivery, inventory forecasting, driver training and research into tools such as smart glasses. Robotics is therefore only one part of the delivery-automation picture. Routing software, scanning, dispatch and driver-assistance tools can change labor requirements without a humanoid ever walking to a customer’s door. Details on these programs are in Amazon’s Blue Jay and Project Eluna announcement and its AI innovations overview.

None of those proof points has been publicly established for a scaled Amazon humanoid delivery program in the available announcements.
What this means for workers, job seekers and investors
For warehouse workers, automation risk is most immediate in repetitive movement, sorting and staging tasks. Skills in equipment troubleshooting, controls, quality assurance, safety and maintenance may become more valuable as fleets expand.
For drivers, the near-term issue is more likely to be productivity technology and selective task assistance than a sudden nationwide replacement. The difficult route exceptions that require judgment remain a major barrier to fully autonomous delivery.
For job seekers, Amazon’s official jobs site is the appropriate place to check current openings; robotics activity alone does not establish that a particular role is being eliminated. For investors and business readers, the relevant questions are deployment economics, intervention rates, safety liability, utilization and whether specialized machines deliver better returns than humanoids.

Amazon’s logistics automation is real and expanding. The company has tested Agility Robotics’ Digit for warehouse tote handling, operates a much larger fleet of specialized robots and is reportedly investigating humanoid systems for possible delivery use. But no verified evidence shows humanoid robots currently replacing Amazon delivery drivers at scale, and Amazon has not announced a production timetable or nationwide replacement program.
The most defensible conclusion is that Amazon is automating tasks now and researching broader possibilities. Whether that eventually changes the driver job will depend on reliable performance in real neighborhoods, economics, safety, customer acceptance and how much human supervision remains necessary.
