The roundup’s meaningful choices were a specialized M4 Max MacBook Pro, an unusually well-equipped 24GB M3 MacBook Air, and Apple’s blue Trail Loop at a reduced price. The right buy depended more on workload, configuration and condition than on the headline discount.
The M4 Max MacBook Pro deal: impressive, but for a narrow audience
The featured new machine was a Space Black 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 Max chip, 36GB unified memory and a 1TB SSD. It was listed at $2,849, versus a cited $3,199 list price: $350 off, or about 10.9%. The roundup also cited Best Buy open-box units in “excellent condition” from $2,424.99, a $774 reduction from that list price (about 24.2%). These were separate prices for different conditions, not two ways to describe the same discount. The original roundup and the supporting deal page now document the offer as expired.
Who could justify M4 Max
- Professional video editors working in demanding Final Cut Pro projects.
- 3D artists and other GPU-accelerated workflows.
- Developers running large builds, containers or several virtual machines.
- Scientific, engineering or data-heavy applications that scale with CPU, GPU and memory.
For web apps, office work, school software, streaming, email and light photo or video editing, the Max chip is usually paying for capacity you will not use. Most photographers and casual editors should compare a lower-tier MacBook Pro or MacBook Air on actual application needs rather than the M4 Max label.

Is the open-box MacBook Pro worth it?
The extra savings were compelling only if you genuinely needed this performance and could verify the individual unit. “Excellent” is a retailer condition grade, not a promise that the computer is unused or cosmetically perfect; open-box inventory can disappear or change condition without notice.
Check these details before paying
- Confirm the exact 14-inch, M4 Max, 36GB, 1TB configuration and the seller and fulfillment party.
- Ask for or inspect battery health and cycle information.
- Verify that the charger and any other listed accessories are included.
- Test the display for dead pixels, the keyboard, ports, speakers, camera and trackpad.
- Make sure Activation Lock is removed and the Mac can be set up with your Apple Account.
- Check serial-number coverage at Apple’s coverage page; confirm whether the stated one-year Apple warranty actually applies.
- Confirm the retailer return window and whether AppleCare+ can still be added.
The coverage reported a one-year Apple warranty, but warranty and return terms must be confirmed on the actual listing. If those terms are unclear, a new lower-tier MacBook Pro may be the safer value.
The 24GB M3 MacBook Air was the value-oriented configuration
The 13-inch M3 MacBook Air with 24GB unified memory and a 512GB SSD was listed at $1,099. The cited comparison was $1,499 as the then-current regular price and $1,699 as the original price: $400 (26.7%) below the former and $600 (35.3%) below the latter. Showing both reference prices matters because a manufacturer price change can make an “original price” comparison look larger than the discount against the prevailing price. The deal page now marks this offer expired.

Twenty-four gigabytes gives an Air substantially more headroom for browser-heavy multitasking, development tools and some creative applications than a base-memory configuration. The 512GB SSD is also a more practical starting point for projects and media. It remains a sensible historical bargain when it is meaningfully cheaper than a comparable newer Air and the buyer is comfortable owning a previous generation.
M3 Air or newer M4 Air?
The roundup noted that the M4 Air had just launched and that comparable 24GB/512GB models cost about $200 more at the time. That premium was not automatically worthwhile for every buyer.

Apple Watch Trail Loop at $79
The official blue Trail Loop was reported at $79 in both S/M and M/L sizes, down from $99 (20%). The publication described that as its lowest tracked price as of March 19, 2025; the offer is now expired. The band uses lightweight, elastic nylon and an adjustable pull tab. The supporting coverage reported compatibility with 44mm, 45mm, 46mm and 49mm Apple Watch cases.
Case size and band size are different measurements. Choose S/M or M/L by wrist circumference and Apple’s current fit guidance, then confirm connector compatibility for the exact watch. Apple’s current catalog is at Apple Watch bands.

The Crucial X10 Pro was promoted for fast project storage and compatible direct 4K ProRes recording from an iPhone. Listed specifications were up to 2,100MB/s read, 2,000MB/s write and IP55 protection. Historical March 19, 2025 prices were $101.99 for 1TB, $145.99 for 2TB and $239.99 for 4TB. Charging and desk gear
The roundup also mentioned an Anker 100W three-port USB-C GaN charger, a smaller USB-C charger, a multi-device power bank, a UGREEN Qi2/MagSafe dock, a portable USB-C monitor and a compact electric standing desk. The Anker 100W deal was cited at $60 on March 18, 2025; current pricing was not established. A charger is useful when its wattage and port count match your devices, not simply because 100W is a larger number.
Apple accessories
Apple Pencil Pro, iPad mini and M3 iPad Air discounts were secondary items in the roundup. Check the current Apple Store and retailer listings for present availability rather than carrying over the old prices.
