The best flexible purchase was the unlocked Galaxy S24 128GB for $679.99 at Best Buy (or $579.99 with carrier activation). Verizon advertised a free base S24 with a new eligible line and 36 months of bill credits, while Best Buy had the clearest outright Galaxy S24 Ultra discount at $1,049.99 for 256GB. Boost Infinite’s $60-per-month Infinite Access for Galaxy plan bundled a free S24-series phone with annual upgrades. The original roundup headline said “up to $1,200 off” the Ultra, but its detailed Verizon offer showed $1,119.99 in advertised savings and AT&T showed $1,000, so no universal $1,200 discount should be assumed. Android Central’s January 6, 2025 roundup is the source for these prices and conditions.
January 2025 Galaxy S24 deals at a glance
The Galaxy S25 was expected later in January 2025, making the S24 a discounted outgoing flagship rather than an obsolete phone. Samsung had promised seven years of operating-system and security updates for the S24 family, although a phone bought in 2025 would have fewer remaining years than a newly launched S25. The right choice depended on whether immediate savings mattered more than a newer processor, design and longer support runway.

Best deal on the Galaxy S24
Best unlocked price: Best Buy
The $679.99 unlocked 128GB S24 was the safest recommendation for buyers who wanted a lower upfront price without a multiyear carrier-credit commitment. Best Buy’s $579.99 activation price was cheaper, but required choosing a carrier at checkout and could create separate service obligations. Best Buy’s S24 search page is a retailer destination, not proof that those January prices remain active.

Lowest advertised phone cost: Verizon
Verizon’s base-S24 promotion was “free” with a new line on Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate. The phone was financed and offset by 36 monthly bill credits; the offer, as described, did not require a trade-in. Taxes on the full device price, activation charges and the qualifying plan were still separate costs.
AT&T and Boost alternatives
AT&T listed the S24 at $10.99 per month for 36 months with an eligible data plan. Boost Infinite’s 256GB S24 was free through Infinite Access for Galaxy, starting at $60 per month. Boost’s annual-upgrade structure suited frequent upgraders, not someone intending to keep one handset for four or five years.
Best deal on the Galaxy S24+
The S24+ added a larger display and battery without the Ultra’s S Pen and camera system. Verizon listed it free with a qualifying myPlan, a new line and a trade-in. AT&T also listed a free S24+ with a new line and eligible trade-in. Those are subsidy offers, not unlocked prices.
For an outright purchase, Best Buy listed the 256GB model at $799.99 after a $200 reduction, with a possible additional $100 activation discount. Boost Infinite listed the 512GB S24+ as free through its $60-per-month-starting subscription. Compare storage carefully: the free Boost configuration was not the same capacity as Best Buy’s discounted model.

Best deal on the Galaxy S24 Ultra
Best direct discount: Best Buy
Best Buy’s $1,049.99 price for the 256GB Ultra, down from $1,299.99, was the clearest no-credit discount. An additional $100 activation discount was possible. This was the strongest option for buyers who wanted the S Pen and Ultra camera system but did not want to remain tied to a carrier for 36 months.
Lowest advertised device payment: Verizon
Verizon showed $5 per month for the Ultra with Unlimited Ultimate, based on $1,119.99 in advertised savings against a listed $1,419.99 price. That $5 is the post-promotion device payment, not the cost of Verizon service. Leaving early, changing an ineligible plan or otherwise ending the promotion can eliminate future credits and leave a device balance.
AT&T’s trade-in route
AT&T showed the 512GB Ultra at $8.34 per month for 36 months after a stated $1,000 discount. The figure required an eligible plan and trade-in. The trade-in’s condition and model eligibility mattered: a cracked or nonworking phone could receive a different value after inspection.
Boost’s subscription bundle
Boost Infinite listed a free 512GB Ultra through Infinite Access for Galaxy, beginning at $60 per month. The apparent phone price was offset by the continuing wireless subscription and annual-upgrade terms, so it should be compared with the full cost of service, not with a $1,499.99 unlocked purchase alone.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
What “free” means in carrier promotions
A carrier normally finances the phone at its retail price and applies promotional credits over 24 or 36 months. “Free” means the net device payment reaches zero if every condition remains satisfied. You may still pay:
- Sales tax calculated on the phone’s full retail price.
- Activation or upgrade fees.
- A premium unlimited plan rather than your existing low-cost plan.
- Any unpaid device balance if you cancel, switch plans or leave before the credit schedule ends.
A new-line promotion is not automatically available as an upgrade. Verizon’s free base S24 required a new line, whereas its S24+ offer required both a new line and trade-in. Read the exact eligibility language before assuming an existing line qualifies.
How to compare the real cost
Use total cost of ownership rather than the headline device payment:
Total cost = upfront phone cost + taxes and fees + required service-plan cost during the credit period + trade-in value given up + any remaining device balance if you leave early.
Rank #4
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
- Subtract the cost of the plan you would have kept anyway; count only the incremental plan cost caused by the promotion.
- Compare the promotional trade-in credit with the phone’s ordinary resale or trade-in value.
- Check whether credits start immediately or only after the trade-in is received and approved.
- Confirm the unlocking policy and whether the device is sold by the retailer or a third-party marketplace seller.
A $5 Ultra payment can cost more overall than a $1,049.99 unlocked phone when the qualifying plan is substantially more expensive for three years.

Buyer avoiding contracts and plan changes
Choose the Best Buy unlocked S24 at $679.99, or its $579.99 activation price only if the carrier terms still suit you. Samsung’s direct unlocked route is another option through its Galaxy S24 buying page and S24 Ultra buying page.
New Verizon customer who already wants Verizon service
The free base S24 had the lowest advertised phone acquisition cost without a stated trade-in, provided you accept Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate and 36 months of credits.
Existing Verizon or AT&T customer with a strong trade-in
The S24+ or Ultra trade-in promotions could be compelling if you already pay for an eligible plan and expect to remain through the full credit period. Do not change to a more expensive plan solely for the phone without calculating the difference.

Buyer who upgrades every year
Boost Infinite’s Infinite Access for Galaxy was the most directly aligned with annual upgrades, but its $60-per-month starting subscription is a poor fit for long-term owners.
Prepaid or low-cost-plan user
An unlocked Best Buy, Amazon or Samsung purchase generally preserved the most flexibility. On Amazon, verify the seller, U.S. model compatibility, warranty and whether the listing is new, renewed or imported; its search page alone does not establish those details.
Trade-in pitfalls that can erase the apparent saving
- Condition: Cracked screens, water damage and nonworking phones can fail inspection or receive reduced credit.
- Ownership: A blacklisted or still-financed device may be rejected.
- Identity: An IMEI mismatch, missing required accessories or an incorrect model can invalidate the quoted value.
- Eligibility wording: “Any phone” is broader than “eligible phone”; the latter usually excludes models or conditions listed in the terms.
- Timing: Credits may not begin until the carrier receives and approves the trade-in.
Should you have waited for the Galaxy S25?
Waiting made sense for readers who prioritized the newest processor, a longer remaining support period or potentially stronger launch trade-in bonuses. Buying the discounted S24 made sense when the unlocked price was attractive, the S24’s hardware met your needs and you did not want to pay launch pricing for a new generation. The S24 did not become unusable when the S25 arrived; its seven-year support promise still made it a long-lived phone, just with less remaining support than the newer model.
Verizon’s January 2024 launch promotion illustrates how carrier deals work but was not a January 2025 offer: it advertised a free S24 or S24+ or up to $1,000 off an Ultra with a Samsung trade-in on selected plans. Verizon’s announcement should therefore be treated as historical context only. T-Mobile’s archived 2025 terms likewise used up to $800 in 24 monthly credits with qualifying Go5G plans and a new line; see its promotional archive for the archived conditions.

Bottom-line recommendations
- Best flexible S24: Best Buy’s historical $679.99 unlocked 128GB model, or $579.99 with activation.
- Best no-trade-in carrier deal: Verizon’s free base S24, only for someone comfortable with its qualifying plan and 36-month credits.
- Best outright Ultra discount: Best Buy’s $1,049.99 256GB Ultra, subject to its activation option.
- Best annual-upgrade structure: Boost Infinite’s $60-per-month-starting Infinite Access for Galaxy, if the subscription fits your usage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these Galaxy S24 prices still available?
No current availability is established here. They are January 6, 2025 offers preserved as an archival snapshot; check official retailer and carrier pages before buying.
Is Verizon’s $5 Galaxy S24 Ultra really $5 per month total?
No. It was the post-credit device payment. The required Unlimited Ultimate service, taxes, fees and the risk of losing future credits were separate.
Did every Galaxy S24 Ultra receive $1,200 off?
No. The detailed January 2025 offers cited $1,119.99 in Verizon savings and $1,000 at AT&T. The $1,200 wording was an advertised maximum or rounded headline, not a universal discount.
