You can request free suppression of a Whitepages listing through Whitepages’ official system. Search for every matching profile, submit each profile URL at whitepages.com/suppression-requests, complete the verification step, and save your confirmation. This hides a listing from Whitepages; it does not erase public records or copies held by other data brokers.
What Whitepages may display
Whitepages is a people-search and directory service. A profile may include names and aliases, current or former addresses, phone numbers, approximate age, relatives or associates, and information derived from property or other public records. Some results link to paid Whitepages Premium reports.
The Federal Trade Commission describes people-search companies as data brokers that compile information from other brokers, public social-media profiles, and government records. See the FTC’s explanation at consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-know-about-people-search-sites-sell-your-information.
Suppression is not the same as deleting the source record
- Suppression or opt-out: asks Whitepages not to display or sell a particular listing.
- Correction: asks the company to fix inaccurate information.
- Deletion: removes data from that company’s database where its policies and applicable law allow it.
- Public-record removal: concerns the original court, property, voter, licensing, or government record and is a separate, harder process.
- Search-engine removal: can hide a stale result in Google or Bing without removing the Whitepages page itself.
Whitepages may not suppress every field. Legal, public-record, safety, fraud-prevention, or site-policy exceptions can apply, and information can return after a database update.

How to opt out of Whitepages for free
1. Search every version of your information
Start at whitepages.com. Search your full legal name, nickname, middle-initial variations, former surnames, current and previous cities and states, current and former phone numbers, and current and former addresses. Look for duplicate or partially matching records rather than assuming the first result is the only one.
2. Confirm that each profile is yours
Compare several identifiers: approximate age, address history, phone number, city, relatives or associates, and name variations. Do not submit a profile solely because the name matches someone else’s.
3. Save the listing and its complete URL
Copy the full address from the browser’s address bar. Before submitting, save a screenshot showing the listing and record the date and time. Keep the profile URL, the email address used for verification, and any confirmation message or ticket number.
4. Submit the official suppression request
Open https://www.whitepages.com/suppression-requests, paste the profile URL, and follow the labels currently shown. Whitepages may request an email address, phone verification, CAPTCHA, or another confirmation method. Interface wording can change, so rely on the current official page rather than an old button-by-button guide.
Do not send a Social Security number, driver’s-license number, or complete financial information to an unofficial removal site. If Whitepages specifically requests identity information, use only an official Whitepages domain and provide the minimum necessary.
5. Complete verification
Check spam and promotional folders. Respond only to a message that clearly comes from Whitepages or its official support system. If a message looks suspicious, navigate directly to https://www.whitepages.com/ instead of clicking its link.
6. Repeat for every relevant profile
Submit separate requests for duplicates, former names, old phone numbers, different cities, and separate Premium results. A single request may not cover a related or associate profile that exposes connected information.
How long does Whitepages removal take?
Whitepages does not provide a universal deadline that applies to every request and jurisdiction. The listing may not disappear immediately. Wait through the timeframe stated in your confirmation or support response, then open the original profile URL again. Keep your evidence while the request is pending.

- Wrong URL: return to the exact listing and copy its current URL again.
- Duplicate record: submit each profile URL separately.
- Missed verification: check spam, confirm the email or phone format, and complete the method Whitepages offered.
- CAPTCHA or page error: try a current browser, temporarily disable interfering extensions, or use Whitepages’ official support route.
- Still visible after processing: take a new screenshot, verify the request details, and contact support through the official site.
- Listing returns later: submit a new request and add the profile to a recurring monitoring list.
- Information appears in a relative’s profile: request suppression of a separately attributable profile, but recognize that one opt-out may not remove references elsewhere.
- Google still shows the result: first check whether the Whitepages page itself is gone; search-engine updates are a separate process.
The FTC recommends periodic checking because new or changed public-record data can cause information to reappear.
Does Whitepages removal erase public records?
No. Suppression changes Whitepages’ listing; it normally does not remove court records, property records, voter records, professional-license records, government pages, news reports, or information held by another broker. Another service can republish the same source data, and a search engine may temporarily retain an old result after the source page changes.

California’s DROP option
California residents have a broader free option through the state’s Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP). Use the official information page at privacy.ca.gov/drop/ and the consumer portal at consumer.drop.privacy.ca.gov/.
- DROP is limited to California residents.
- One request can reach more than 600 registered data brokers.
- California says residents could submit requests beginning January 1, 2026.
- Data brokers began processing requests through DROP on August 1, 2026.
- Brokers must access DROP at least every 45 days, while status updates can take up to 90 days.
Whitepages must be included in the relevant registered-broker coverage for DROP to affect a particular record. Submit directly to Whitepages when immediate suppression matters, then use DROP for broader coverage. Save the DROP status and recheck after the stated processing window. California’s broader data-broker information is available at cppa.ca.gov/data_brokers/.

Deletion, correction, do-not-sell, authorized-agent rights, verification rules, exemptions, and response periods vary by state and can change. Consult your state attorney general or privacy regulator for current requirements. No state rule should be assumed to force every broker to erase every record.
Should you pay for a data-removal service?
| Situation | Best starting point |
|---|---|
| One or two Whitepages listings | Manual Whitepages opt-out |
| Many broker profiles or old identities | Paid automated service may save time |
| California resident | Direct Whitepages request plus free DROP request |
| Stalking or domestic-violence risk | Manual suppression plus specialist safety support |
| Need recurring scans | A service offering repeat monitoring and reports |
| Want to share as little data as possible | Manual requests with minimal-information disclosure |
Manual removal is usually the lowest-cost choice when you have only a few profiles. A paid service can be useful when you appear across many brokers, use several names or locations, lack time for repeated requests, or want recurring scans and re-removals. It cannot guarantee removal from the entire internet.

Optery: Its plans advertise exposure reports and removal tools. The pricing page lists, as observed August 18, 2026, Basic at free; Core at $3.99 monthly or $39 billed yearly; Extended at $14.99 monthly or $149 yearly; and Ultimate at $24.99 monthly or $249 yearly. Coverage and features differ by plan. See optery.com, optery.com/pricing/, and its Whitepages guide at optery.com/data-brokers/whitepages/. Optery says it covers brokers and people-search sites, not every type of website, and does not guarantee removal of all personal information: help.optery.com/en/article/will-optery-be-able-to-remove-all-of-my-personal-information-from-the-internet-1phvn81/.

Questions to ask before subscribing
- Is Whitepages actually covered?
- How many brokers and locations are included?
- How often does the service rescan?
- Are removals automated, human-assisted, or both?
- Can it handle multiple names and former addresses?
- Does it provide removal reports or proof?
- What are the cancellation, refund, privacy, and data-retention terms?
- Does it handle only brokers, or also outdated search results and other web content?
Protect your information after removal
- Search Whitepages and other major people-search sites at least quarterly.
- Include former addresses, phone numbers, surnames, and alternate spellings in each check.
- Repeat opt-outs after a major move or name change.
- Remove unused accounts and reduce publicly visible social-media details.
- Use a business address or other lawful alternative where appropriate instead of publishing a home address.
- Keep a private log of URLs, dates, confirmations, and follow-up screenshots.
If you face stalking, harassment, or domestic violence, do not publicly announce your removal effort. Prioritize physical safety and consider a qualified domestic-violence or stalking advocate, attorney, or workplace security professional. An ordinary people-search opt-out is not a complete safety plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Whitepages opt-out free?
Yes. You can submit a suppression request directly through Whitepages without paying Whitepages. Paid services are optional convenience and monitoring tools.
Can I remove someone else’s listing?
Do not submit a profile merely because the name matches. Confirm that the listing is yours before requesting suppression.
Can one request remove my relatives’ information?
Not necessarily. Related or associate profiles may require separate requests and may still contain references to you.
Does Whitepages Premium require a separate request?
Treat a separate Premium result or duplicate profile as a separate listing and submit its specific URL if it remains visible.
What if I cannot complete verification?
Check spam folders, confirm the contact details and formatting, retry the verification method offered, and use Whitepages’ official support route if the problem continues.
Can a paid service remove me from every site?
No. Coverage is limited by vendor, and public records, news, social media, government pages, and copied data may remain.

The Bottom Line
Start with Whitepages’ free official suppression page, submit every matching profile, document each request, and recheck periodically. California residents should also use DROP for broader broker coverage. Neither route erases public records or guarantees that information will never return.
