DoorDash launched Zesty in December 2025 as a standalone app for discovering restaurants and other local venues through conversational AI and social recommendations. It began as a public test in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area. Reports in April 2026 said DoorDash was winding down the standalone app and moving features such as personalized recommendations and conversational search into the main DoorDash product. An App Store listing still appears to describe a DoorDash-linked Zesty app, so its present availability remains unconfirmed.
What Zesty was
Zesty was designed as a restaurant-discovery product, not another delivery-only storefront. DoorDash positioned it as an AI concierge and dining-focused social network covering restaurants, coffee shops, bars and other places to go. The launch reporting described a separate experience from DoorDash’s standard delivery marketplace and its broader “Going Out” efforts.

The concept sat alongside products people already use for discovery, including Google Maps, Yelp, TikTok, Reddit, OpenTable and Resy. Its proposed advantage was combining conversational search, restaurant information and personal recommendations in one place rather than making users assemble an answer across several services.
How the AI recommendation experience worked
- Sign in: Users reportedly logged in with a DoorDash account.
- Describe the outing: They entered a natural-language request instead of relying only on cuisine, price or distance filters.
- Review suggestions: Zesty returned personalized restaurant recommendations with supporting information and signals from other services.
- Take action: Users could save or share a place, follow people, visit a venue’s website, get directions, order delivery or pursue a reservation where those options were available.
Reported prompts included finding a low-key dinner in Williamsburg suitable for introverts, group brunch and a romantic restaurant with a vintage atmosphere. These examples show the intended use: translating subjective criteria such as mood, noise level or social setting into places to consider. The launch coverage did not establish that Zesty’s recommendations were more accurate than those from Google Maps, Yelp, TikTok or personal referrals.

Which information sources did Zesty use?
DoorDash co-founder and CTO Andy Fang said Zesty aggregated information from DoorDash, Google Maps, TikTok and other web sources. Bloomberg reported that recommendation cards could include signals such as Google Maps ratings, TikTok likes and Reddit mentions. Those descriptions indicate synthesis of publicly visible or third-party signals; they do not establish unrestricted access, formal partnerships or independent verification of every item.
That distinction matters. Combining sources can make a result more useful, but it can also bring together stale hours, changed menus, duplicate listings, mismatched venue identities or popularity signals that say more about online visibility than dining quality.

What made Zesty social?
The app reportedly included a dining-focused feed where people could post photos and comments, share discoveries, follow other users and save favorite places. Coverage also described informal reactions such as “Loved this!”, “Kinda mid” and “Not for me,” and referred to users as “Zesties.” These were reported product details during testing, not guarantees of a permanent feature set.
Social context can explain why someone liked a place in a way a star rating cannot. It also creates a popularity bias: photogenic or heavily posted venues may receive more attention than quieter businesses with little online activity. A post should therefore be treated as a personal experience, not an objective inspection.

Why DoorDash built a separate discovery app
Zesty fit DoorDash’s apparent effort to reach consumers earlier in the dining journey—before they had decided what to eat or where to go. Discovery could potentially connect to directions, reservations, in-person dining and delivery. In that sense, Zesty was an attempt to move from a transaction that starts with a known restaurant toward an open-ended local-commerce search.
Rank #4
- Get thousands of restaurants, convenience stores, pet stores, grocery stores, gifts, and more at your fingertips.
- Easy ordering, order customizations, and real-time tracking
- Pickup, group order, and scheduled delivery options available
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
A separate app also had serious distribution challenges. Consumers already had established discovery habits, and a new service would need to earn downloads, build a social graph and keep its information current. Folding the most useful functions into DoorDash removes the extra-download hurdle, although it may reduce the distinct social-network experience.
What happened to Zesty?
Reports published in April 2026 said DoorDash was ending the standalone product and planned to integrate its personalized recommendations and conversational search into DoorDash. Those reports do not establish whether the decision reflected adoption, a change in distribution strategy, feature consolidation or another business reason. No user or financial metrics in the available coverage prove that Zesty failed.

Can you use Zesty today?
There is no fully verified yes-or-no answer. News reports said the original standalone app was being shut down, while an App Store page still appears to show a DoorDash-associated Zesty listing with a 2026 copyright notice and newer feature descriptions, including agentic chat, reservations, global availability and itinerary planning. The listing could be live, stale, reused or associated with a changed product; the available evidence does not prove its installability, developer identity or ongoing DoorDash support.
Before relying on the app, check:
- Whether the App Store page identifies DoorDash as the current developer.
- Whether the app can actually be installed and opened in your country.
- Its most recent update date and release notes.
- Whether sign-in, recommendations and links to reservations or ordering work.
- Whether DoorDash’s own consumer site presents Zesty as an active product.
For current status, compare the listing with DoorDash’s main site at doordash.com rather than assuming that an indexed store page means the service is supported.
Limits and safety checks for AI restaurant recommendations
Regardless of whether Zesty remains accessible, an AI-generated suggestion should be a starting point. Verify the details that can affect money, timing and health:
- Confirm the venue’s current address, opening hours and physical identity.
- Check the live menu, prices, taxes, fees and reservation availability with the restaurant or booking service.
- Ask the restaurant directly about allergens and cross-contact; an aggregated recommendation is not reliable dietary or medical verification.
- Check whether a listing represents a dining room, delivery-only operation, shared kitchen or duplicate venue.
- Remember that social activity may reflect trendiness and digital reach rather than consistent quality.
- Consider whether ranking incentives or DoorDash availability could influence what appears, because the available launch reporting did not establish that rankings were free of commercial effects.
Sources and reported details
The launch, feature and market details were reported by TechCrunch and Bloomberg. Shutdown and integration reporting came from Nation’s Restaurant News and Restaurant Technology News. Additional descriptions of the social interface appeared in Restaurant Business. The conflicting store evidence is visible at the App Store listing.
The Bottom Line
Zesty was a DoorDash experiment in AI-assisted restaurant discovery and social dining, launched in two U.S. markets in December 2025. Reports said the standalone app was expected to go offline in April 2026 as its conversational and personalized features moved into DoorDash. Because an App Store listing still appears to exist, treat standalone availability as unresolved and verify the developer and install status before using it.
