Currys’ clearance television section includes OLED, QLED, Neo QLED, Mini-LED and standard 4K LED models. The headline “save up to £500” applies only to selected products, if a qualifying reduction is currently displayed; it is not a blanket discount. Clearance stock and postcode-based delivery can change quickly, so treat the prices below as listing snapshots and confirm the exact model, condition and total cost before paying.

Price evidence: the directly indexed product listings supplied for this guide show the LG B5 55-inch OLED at £899 (a displayed £100 reduction from £999) and the Samsung Q7F5 65-inch QLED at £679. The listing date was not stated, so both prices require a live check.

Which verified deal is the better buy?

LG B5 OLED: the stronger feature deal

At the indexed £899 price, the LG B5 combines self-lit OLED pixels, a 120 Hz panel and four HDMI 2.1 inputs. Those specifications make it the more capable choice for films in a dim room and for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or PC gaming that can use 4K at 120 Hz, provided the game, cable and console settings support it. The listing also shows webOS and a five-year guarantee.

Skip it if the television will display a static news ticker, channel logo or desktop for many hours every day, or if your room is very bright and you prefer maximum light output. OLED brightness varies by model, and no retailer listing substitutes for an independent brightness or input-lag test.

Samsung Q7F5 QLED: more screen for less money

The indexed £679 price buys a 65-inch QLED panel, making this the straightforward large-screen value option of the two verified products. Quantum-dot colour can suit general broadcast, sport and streaming in a bright lounge.

Its listed 60 Hz refresh rate and three HDMI 1.4 ports are important limitations. Do not treat it as a premium 4K/120 Hz gaming television, and do not infer local dimming or top-tier HDR performance from the QLED name alone.

OLED, QLED, Neo QLED and Mini-LED: what changes?

OLED

  • Each pixel emits its own light, allowing very deep blacks and strong contrast without a backlight.
  • Viewing angles are generally wide, which helps when seating is spread across a room.
  • Long periods of unchanged graphics can create image-retention or burn-in risk; vary content and use the panel’s protective settings.
  • Check the individual model’s brightness, refresh rate and HDMI specification rather than assuming every OLED is identical.

QLED

  • A quantum-dot layer is used with an LED backlight, often delivering vivid colour and useful brightness for daytime viewing.
  • Black levels depend on the backlight design; basic QLED can look greyer than OLED in dark scenes.
  • Refresh rates, local dimming and HDR capability vary widely. The Q7F5’s listing is explicitly 60 Hz with HDMI 1.4.

Neo QLED and Mini-LED

These use a more advanced LED backlight with smaller LEDs and, typically, more precise dimming than conventional QLED. They can be a strong compromise for bright rooms and HDR highlights, but blooming around subtitles or bright objects remains possible. The name alone does not establish brightness, dimming-zone count or gaming performance.

How to judge whether “save up to £500” is real

  1. Identify the exact model and size. A maximum saving may apply to a 75-, 77-, 83- or 85-inch variant, not the 55-inch version you are considering.
  2. Read the reference price. A product-page “was” price is different from an RRP or an old historical price. The LG B5 listing shows a specific £999 reference and £100 reduction; that is the evidence for that model.
  3. Separate promotions. Manufacturer cashback, bundle discounts and ticket-price reductions are different offers. Older Currys terms mention cashback of up to £500 on selected LG OLED televisions, but they do not prove a current promotion or eligibility for every clearance item. See the published terms at Currys’ cashback document and confirm dates before relying on it.
  4. Compare the exact suffix elsewhere. Use retailers such as Richer Sounds, John Lewis, AO and Amazon UK as comparison points, but check live prices, delivery, guarantee and returns for the identical model.
  5. Account for specification. A cheap 60 Hz television may be poorer value than a slightly dearer 120 Hz model if you game or watch fast sport.

Gaming checks before you order

  • Confirm the native panel rate: 60 Hz is different from 100/120 Hz.
  • Look for full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1, 4K at 120 Hz, variable refresh rate and auto low-latency mode.
  • Check how many HDMI ports support those features and where they are located.
  • Use independently measured input lag when available; Currys’ listing specifications are not laboratory testing.

On the supplied specifications, the LG B5 is the gaming candidate. The Q7F5 should be considered a general-viewing screen unless a live specification page establishes capabilities beyond its listed 60 Hz and HDMI 1.4.

What “clearance” means at Currys

Clearance is a sales category, not a universal condition grade. A unit may be new but discontinued, ex-display, a customer return, repaired or refurbished. Inspect the listing for packaging notes, cosmetic marks, missing accessories, seller identity and warranty wording. Do not assume every clearance television has been used, and do not assume every one is factory-sealed.

Clearance-TV checklist

  • Copy the complete model number and suffix; similarly named Samsung Q7F and Q7F5 products are not interchangeable.
  • Measure the stand width, depth and your furniture, or confirm the VESA pattern for wall mounting.
  • Check that the box can pass through doors, stairways and lifts; large-screen delivery may fail on access even when stock exists.
  • Confirm that the stand, remote, power lead and any One Connect or specialist cable are included.
  • Check delivery and collection for your postcode. Currys product pages state free standard delivery on qualifying orders over £40, but availability is location-dependent.
  • Read the return process, collection charges, dead-pixel procedure and guarantee provider. A five-year guarantee shown on a listing may require registration or have specific terms.
  • Keep a screenshot of the price and stock status. Clearance inventory can disappear or be allocated to a particular store before checkout.
  • Compare a current replacement model if the clearance saving is small; discontinued stock is not automatically better value.

Finance is not a discount

Currys Flexpay examples on the cited pages use a representative 29.9% APR variable rate, subject to eligibility, minimum spend and credit status. The LG B5 illustration shows £36.43 per month over 36 months on an £899 purchase, with £1,311.48 total payable if those illustrative terms apply. “From £x per month” is therefore not the cash price or a saving. Compare the total amount payable, and check whether any interest-free offer requires settlement by a stated date; missed payments can affect your finances and credit file.

Bottom line for different rooms and budgets

  • Dark-room films: choose the LG B5 or another verified OLED when its price premium is acceptable.
  • Bright lounge: favour QLED, Neo QLED or Mini-LED, checking reflections and HDR specifications.
  • Console gaming: require 120 Hz, HDMI 2.1, VRR and low-latency features; the LG B5 meets the listed refresh and HDMI thresholds, while the Q7F5 does not.
  • Largest screen on a tighter budget: the £679 Q7F5 is the verified value option, provided 60 Hz gaming limits are acceptable.
  • Design priority: investigate The Frame Pro, but include mounting, accessories and the premium for its appearance.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
