The reported £949 OnePlus 15 price was for the UK model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage—not the entry phone. OnePlus later gave that configuration a £949 list price, confirming the leak substantially. In the US, the phone launched at $899.99 for 12GB/256GB and $999.99 for 16GB/512GB. Those are 2025 launch prices; your August 2026 checkout price may be different.
Updated August 18, 2026: the OnePlus 15 launched in 2025, so this is a post-launch fact-check rather than a current leak report.
What the original leak actually said
Leaker Arsène Lupin was reported by Android Central as claiming that the UK OnePlus 15 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage would cost £949. The report did not establish the 12GB/256GB price, any US or Indian MSRP, or whether the figure represented a list price, retailer price or launch promotion.
The roughly $1,260 figure mentioned at the time was only a currency conversion of £949. It was not an official US price.

OnePlus published the US figures in its North American launch announcement. UK, European and Indian launch figures came from the company’s official community announcement. OnePlus noted that North American pricing and availability can change with market conditions, so these should not be mistaken for guaranteed August 2026 checkout prices.
Was the £949 leak accurate?
Yes—substantially, but only for one market and one configuration. The leaked £949 figure matched the official UK list price of the 16GB/512GB model. It was therefore a credible price leak, not a complete price sheet. The leak did not identify the cheaper UK configuration or predict the US, European and Indian prices.
The UK comparison was also complicated by the launch promotion: OnePlus temporarily reduced the 16GB/512GB phone by £100, making its launch price £849 rather than its £949 list price.
Why £949 attracted attention
A sub-£1,000 price for a 16GB/512GB flagship suggested aggressive positioning. The phone uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform and offers unusually high memory and storage without moving into the £1,000-plus tier occupied by many premium phones.
The surprise was strongest in the US, where OnePlus kept the entry price below $900 and capped the 16GB/512GB version at $999.99. That combination made the top model look especially competitive on paper, although local taxes, promotions and currency economics mean prices cannot be compared as direct currency equivalents.
What buyers get for the money
Performance and storage
Both configurations use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The choice is between 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB, with UFS 4.1 storage. The extra $100 in the US—or £100 at UK list price—buys twice the storage and additional RAM, rather than a different processor.
Display
The phone has a 6.78-inch 2772 × 1272 display with a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 165Hz in supported games. That high gaming mode favors smoothness, while the 1.5K resolution may not match the pixel density of some QHD+ rivals.

Battery and charging
OnePlus lists a 7,300mAh equivalent dual-cell battery. Capacity alone does not prove two-day endurance; real battery life depends on network, brightness, software and usage. Wired charging is region-specific: the US specification lists 80W SUPERVOOC, while the Indian specification lists 120W SUPERVOOC. Both regions list 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging.

The rear system combines 50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide and 50MP telephoto cameras. The telephoto provides 3.5x optical zoom and up to 7x optical-quality zoom. Those specifications are attractive, but they do not establish image quality or make the phone a proven camera leader without comparative testing.
Software and connectivity
The OnePlus 15 runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16 and supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and 256GB or 512GB storage. OnePlus’ product pages also promote AI features; buyers should check the current regional terms rather than assume every launch benefit remains available.

- Charging: do not treat 120W as universal; the US specification says 80W.
- Colors: the US 12GB/256GB model was announced in Infinite Black only. The 16GB/512GB model was offered in Infinite Black, Sand Storm and Ultra Violet.
- Promotions: launch discounts and bundled products can change the effective price without changing the list price.
- Protection: OnePlus describes water and dust resistance subject to usage conditions. It is not a promise that the phone is safe for diving or salt water.
Which configuration is better value?
Choose 12GB/256GB when
- You want the lowest official price.
- You stream rather than store extensive offline media.
- You do not install several very large games or record substantial video.
- The 16GB/512GB model is not currently discounted.
Choose 16GB/512GB when
- You plan to keep the phone for several years.
- You store large games, 4K video or offline libraries.
- The step-up remains only $100 or £100.
- You want the wider US color selection.
For US buyers, $999.99 for 16GB/512GB is the clearest value proposition because the upgrade is relatively small. UK buyers should compare the current checkout price with both the £949 list price and the temporary £849 launch price before deciding.
Is the OnePlus 15 a good buy now?
Its value case rests on performance, 512GB storage, a large battery and fast charging—not on a proven camera advantage or guaranteed real-world endurance. Gamers benefit most from the high-refresh display and flagship chip. Long-term owners may prefer the 512GB model if the price gap remains modest. Camera-focused buyers should compare independent image tests, and buyers who prioritize the longest support commitment or a tightly integrated ecosystem should weigh competing flagships.
Check the official OnePlus 15 page for the price in your market. Optional first-party magnetic cases were announced at $24.99 for Sandstone and Hole-Pattern versions and $39.99 for Aramid Fiber; launch prices may have changed. A Google AI Pro three-month, 2TB promotion had an August 1, 2026 redemption signal, so do not assume it is still available without confirming the current terms at Google’s offer page.
Bottom line
The OnePlus 15 leak was right where it mattered: £949 was the official UK list price for the 16GB/512GB phone. But it was never the base-model price or a worldwide MSRP. The fuller launch picture—$899.99 for 12GB/256GB and $999.99 for 16GB/512GB in the US—made the phone’s combination of flagship hardware and high storage the real surprise.
