There is no single Toyota Celica specification or price. Toyota’s U.S. archive covers seven generations from 1971–1977 through 2003–2005, while Toyota UK describes four generations sold there between 1985 and 2006. Engine output, equipment, drivetrain and values depend on the generation, market, trim, condition and location. The figures below separate historical launch prices from used-car valuations and point you to Toyota’s official photo albums.
How many Toyota Celica generations are there?
Toyota USA’s historical archive labels seven generations, beginning with the first generation (1971–1977) and ending with the seventh (2003–2005): Toyota Celica archives. Toyota Japan dates the first-generation release to December 1, 1970, reflecting the initial Japanese launch rather than the U.S. archive’s model-year framing: Toyota vehicle lineage.
The UK archive uses a different scope, describing four generations sold in Britain from 1985 to 2006: Toyota UK Celica archive. Neither timeline should be treated as a universal global model-year list.
| Archive or market | Coverage | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota USA | Seven generations, 1971–2005 | U.S. historical-generation and image-archive labels |
| Toyota Japan | Initial release: December 1, 1970 | Original Japanese launch date |
| Toyota UK | Four generations sold, 1985–2006 | UK-market sales history |
How fast and powerful is a Toyota Celica?
Published figures must be tied to a market and era; the available sources do not establish one authoritative Celica-wide acceleration or top-speed number.

Fifth-generation UK examples (1990–1994)

The archive also describes the GT-Four’s torque-sensing limited-slip differential and a 205 bhp Carlos Sainz version added in 1992 for World Rally Championship homologation: Toyota UK fifth-generation specifications. These are UK archive specifications, not a global trim guide or independent road-test results.
Seventh-generation UK launch
Toyota’s 1999 UK launch information describes a lighter, more responsive seventh-generation Celica with a VVT-i 1.8-litre engine and six-speed gearbox: Toyota UK seventh-generation launch release. That description records Toyota’s launch positioning, not a modern performance test.

The MSRP column is what those cars cost new in the U.S. in 2005; it is not a current used-car price. The Fair Purchase Price column is not a guaranteed asking price, trade-in value or appraisal for every example. For an actual purchase, compare local listings and obtain a current valuation for the exact mileage, title history, modifications, rust level, service record and ZIP code. The available evidence does not support a single market-wide price range for all Celica generations or countries.
Separate UK launch price
Toyota UK listed the seventh-generation Celica at £19,255 on the road in 1999. That is an original UK launch-era price, not a present-day valuation and not directly convertible into a current U.S. price: Toyota UK launch pricing.

Where can you see official Toyota Celica photos?
Toyota’s U.S. newsroom groups images by generation and labels many files by model year and trim. Check those labels before using an image in a buying guide or valuation article, and verify the applicable asset terms; archive availability does not automatically grant republication rights.
- 2003–2005 seventh-generation album: GT-S exterior, interior and engine images.
- 2000–2002 seventh-generation album: GT and GT-S images, including a VVTL-i engine photograph.
- Toyota USA Celica archive: generation pages and earlier images, including 1990 GT-S, All-Trac Turbo and 1994 GT liftback examples.
Match every caption to the album’s year and trim. A photograph of a GT-S, All-Trac Turbo or Carlos Sainz-related model should not be presented as representative of every Celica sold in that generation.

What to check before buying a Celica
- Identify the exact car: confirm model year, market, body style, engine, transmission and trim from the VIN and documentation.
- Separate price types: distinguish original MSRP or launch price from today’s asking price, dealer purchase benchmark, private-party value and trade-in offer.
- Adjust for condition: record mileage, corrosion, accident or salvage history, modifications, maintenance records and warning lights.
- Verify local evidence: compare several nearby listings and use a valuation dated for your region rather than relying on an old national average.
- Budget for inspection: have an independent mechanic check the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, structure and parts availability before committing.
