Slate Auto says it will assemble its truck in Warsaw, Indiana, at a reindustrialized factory that was formerly a printing plant. The “$20,000 truck” description is outdated: Slate’s June 2026 announced starting price for the Blank Slate is $24,950 before destination and other charges. The company expects first deliveries in Q4 2026, but the vehicle remains in preproduction.
Where will Slate build its truck?
Slate identifies its Warsaw, Indiana, factory as the truck’s assembly site. TechCrunch reported in April 2026 that the facility had previously been a printing plant. Slate says it plans to invest nearly $400 million in the factory, create more than 2,000 jobs, and contribute up to $39 billion to Indiana’s economy over 20 years. Is the Slate Truck still expected to cost $20,000?
No. “Under $20,000” was Slate’s April 2025 expected-price framing after federal incentives, not its current listed price. On June 24, 2026, Slate announced a $24,950 starting price for the Blank Slate. The earlier figure depended on incentives and was presented while the vehicle was in preproduction; it should not be treated as the truck’s current sticker price. What the listed price leaves out
Slate’s FAQ lists a $1,450 destination charge for transportation, processing, and delivery from its Warsaw factory. Taxes, title, registration, governmental fees, documentation, optional equipment, and other applicable charges may add to the cost; Slate says final taxes and fees are calculated nearer the delivery order. When are deliveries expected to begin?

What performance figures has Slate announced?
Slate lists a projected 205-mile range, 1,550-pound payload, and 2,000-pound towing capacity for the pickup. These are manufacturer estimates, and the range is not an official EPA estimate. What should buyers consider beyond the truck’s price?
The financial comparison depends on more than the advertised starting price. Before treating the Slate as a budget alternative, compare its eventual out-the-door cost with other vehicles’ current prices, and distinguish any incentive-adjusted figure from the price before incentives. Range estimates should also be compared on like terms: Slate’s is projected, rather than an EPA-rated value.
