Motorola Mobility India launched six branded Moto Hub stores in July 2017, expanding its online-first strategy rather than abandoning e-commerce. The stores in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai offered demonstrations, hands-on trials and purchases across Motorola’s portfolio, including devices previously sold online only. Motorola said online and offline channels would remain complementary.
What Motorola launched in 2017
Moto Hub was Motorola’s first major branded offline experience-and-sales expansion after more than three years of an online-first India strategy. The stores were designed as dedicated Moto environments where shoppers could see devices, try features and buy phones and accessories in person. Launch coverage described the objective as making Motorola’s full portfolio available through a controlled retail experience.
This was not Motorola’s first physical distribution in India: Moto devices were already available through offline retailers. Moto Hub added a more visible, premium and company-branded format to that existing channel. The initiative was part of Lenovo-owned Motorola’s strategy, but the stores were intended to focus exclusively on Moto products rather than combine Lenovo and Motorola ranges.

Why Motorola added physical stores
A maturing smartphone market
Motorola said its online-only approach had delivered the intended results for more than three years, but India’s smartphone market had matured. Physical retail offered another way to reach shoppers as competition increasingly depended on visibility beyond online marketplaces.
Customers wanted to try before buying
Phones are tactile products. A store lets a buyer compare screen size, build, camera behavior, software and accessories before paying. Staff can demonstrate features that are difficult to communicate on a product page, while mall locations improve brand discovery.
A complementary channel, not a shutdown of online sales
“Going offline” is therefore shorthand for expanding distribution. Motorola executives described online and offline sales as complementary. The launch-period policy also promised that Moto Hub prices would match online prices, reducing confusion between channels; that was a statement about the 2017 rollout, not a permanent price guarantee.

The proposed 50-store expansion
At launch, Motorola discussed a target of roughly 50 Moto Hub stores. The reports differ on the deadline: Indian Express described the plan as reaching that scale “by end of the year,” while Gadgets 360 reported “by the end of this financial year.” Those statements document an intended rollout, not a verified final store count.

No reliable evidence here establishes how many additional locations opened, whether all six original sites remained, or whether the Moto Hub name was later retired, rebranded or absorbed into another retail format.

What Motorola’s offline route looks like now
As of August 18, 2026, Motorola India provides an official retail-store locator listing authorized retailers across Indian cities. The directory includes independent mobile shops and some Lenovo Exclusive Store locations. It does not, by itself, prove that the original six locations continue under the Moto Hub name.
These terms describe different things:
- Moto Hub: the branded retail format launched in 2017.
- Authorized Motorola retailer: a current or historical partner permitted to sell Motorola products.
- Lenovo Exclusive Store: a Lenovo retail format that may appear in Motorola’s retail ecosystem, but is not automatically a Moto Hub.
For warranty or repair routing, Motorola customers can use Lenovo’s service-provider locator. A service listing is not evidence that a location is a Moto Hub or a sales outlet.

If you want to inspect a phone in person
Use Motorola’s official locator to verify an authorized retailer near you, then call ahead about the exact model, storage version and color. Physical shops may offer immediate possession, local financing or demonstrations, but stock and pricing can vary by location.

If you want the widest selection
Check the Motorola India site for current models and manufacturer promotions. Online channels generally provide broader variant availability, while a nearby authorized store can be more convenient for hands-on evaluation.
If you are considering a Lenovo Exclusive Store
The Lenovo store locator is relevant to Lenovo-branded retail, not a dedicated Moto Hub directory. Lenovo store benefits such as pickup or delivery should not be assumed to apply to Motorola smartphones unless the specific listing says so.
Why the physical strategy had trade-offs
For Motorola, mall leases, trained staff and in-store inventory created fixed costs and the risk of unsold stock as phone generations changed. Matching online prices could also constrain retailer margins and create tension when online promotions changed faster than store pricing.
For customers, the trade-off was convenience versus selection: a store offered inspection, advice and potentially same-day purchase, while online shopping usually offered more configurations. An authorized retailer reduced authenticity and warranty risk compared with an unknown seller, but authorization should be checked through Motorola’s own directory.

Moto Hub was a 2017 channel-expansion experiment: six dedicated stores in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai, a proposed broader rollout, and a hands-on way to sell Motorola’s full range. Motorola did not stop selling online, and the evidence does not establish how long the original Moto Hub branding lasted. In 2026, the practical route is Motorola’s authorized-retailer directory, while treating any specific store as a Moto Hub only when that branding is independently confirmed.
