In a September 13, 2024 report, Droid Life said Samsung’s U.S. promotion could bring a 1TB Galaxy Z Fold 6 to $719 from a $2,259 comparison price when a qualifying Galaxy Z Fold 5 trade-in and promotional pricing were combined. That offer is historical, not a current August 2026 deal.
How Samsung reached the $1,540 figure
Droid Life reported the strongest example as a 1TB Fold 6 priced at $1,619 before the maximum trade-in credit, then $719 after a qualifying Galaxy Z Fold 5 trade-in. The headline arithmetic was $2,259 minus $719, or $1,540. The $2,259 figure is the comparison price used for that 1TB deal example; it should not be treated as the standard price of every Fold 6 configuration. Droid Life’s September 2024 report

This was a stack of incentives, not a single coupon or unconditional price cut. The report described trade-in values of up to $1,300, up to $450 off selected configurations without a trade-in, and storage promotions such as getting 512GB for the 256GB price. It also noted that qualifying Samsung Offer Program members—such as some educators, government employees, first responders, and military members—might have had additional discounts. Eligibility and whether discounts combined depended on the offer and buyer.
Who could get the maximum saving?
The $719 example depended on the best-case combination described in the report. A buyer needed a qualifying Fold 5 to trade in, the 1TB Fold 6 configuration, and the active promotional pricing. The trade-in device also had to satisfy Samsung’s applicable eligibility and inspection rules. The report’s maximum value was not a guaranteed credit for every Fold 5, much less for every phone.

#1 Best Overall
- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
- With no trade-in: Droid Life reported up to $450 off selected configurations, not a $1,300 credit.
- With an older trade-in: The report gave a Galaxy Z Fold 2 as an example worth $600 under that promotion. Other models and conditions could receive different values.
- With damage or a device lock: The submitted phone could fail inspection, putting the expected savings at risk.
- With a different storage tier: The 1TB price calculation does not establish the final price of a 256GB or 512GB model.
Storage doubling is useful extra capacity, but it is not cash back. To judge the deal as a personal-finance decision, compare Samsung’s trade-in credit with what you could net by selling your old phone elsewhere, after fees and the effort of selling. A large advertised credit may still be a poor exchange if your device could sell for more.
Fold 6 prices and storage, in context
Samsung’s December 2025 U.S. MSRP file lists unlocked Fold 6 prices of $1,899.99 for 256GB and $2,019.99 for 512GB, and marks both configurations end-of-life. That later file does not list a 1TB price in the cited entries, so it does not make the 2024 report’s $2,259 comparison price a universal MSRP. Samsung’s December 2025 MSRP file
The Fold 6 is a book-style foldable: Samsung lists a 7.6-inch inner display and a 6.3-inch cover display measured across the full rectangle (6.2 inches accounting for rounded corners), plus 12GB of RAM and U.S. launch storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Its large unfolded screen suits multitasking and tablet-like reading. The S Pen is supported, but it is not built into the phone; check whether a compatible case or pen is included before treating either as part of a deal. A lower purchase price does not remove the practical trade-offs of a foldable. The inner display and folding design offer a larger workspace, but the device is thicker and more complex than a conventional phone, and foldable repairs can be more consequential. Consider whether you will actually use the large screen, and weigh that against your priorities for durability, repair costs, camera performance, and battery endurance. Fold 5 owners should also decide whether the newer model’s features matter enough to justify giving up a still-valuable phone.

How Samsung trade-in credit works—and what can go wrong
Samsung applies the quoted credit during checkout, but the submitted phone is inspected afterward. The value shown at purchase is therefore conditional on sending the specified device in the required condition and meeting the promotion’s terms. Samsung’s FAQ says it may charge the customer if the submitted phone does not meet the applicable requirements; one example describes a charge for the new Galaxy device’s full retail price about 15 days after delivery. The precise consequence depends on the promotion and reason for rejection. A phone that powers on can still fail for another functional defect; cracked screens may be excluded unless the offer specifically accepts them. A leased phone may not qualify if you do not own it. Do not send the old device until your data and authentication codes are safely transferred.

No: the September 2024 promotion should be treated as expired, not as a price Samsung currently guarantees. Samsung’s December 2025 MSRP file marks the cited Fold 6 configurations end-of-life, while its current U.S. offers page features newer Fold 7 promotions. Fold 6 units may still appear through remaining inventory or other sellers, but availability, condition, warranty, and trade-in terms must be checked for the specific listing. Samsung’s current U.S. phone offers
Samsung’s direct-store structure in the 2024 report combined an immediate trade-in credit with promotional pricing and storage incentives. Carrier promotions can instead rely on monthly bill credits, financing, an eligible plan, or a new line; a low advertised total may require staying with the carrier for the credit period. Compare the full amount you will pay and the commitments attached, rather than comparing headline discounts alone. No current carrier price is established here.
If you are shopping now, compare an actual Fold 6 listing with the current Fold 7 offer shown at checkout. Samsung’s listed promotions change, and the newer model may cost more; the relevant comparison is the final price, condition, warranty, storage, trade-in value, and any service commitment—not the 2024 Fold 6 headline.
