Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold7 really could cost as little as $899—but only during Samsung’s July 2025 U.S. pre-order promotion. That best-case price required a targeted reservation offer, purchase through the Shop Samsung app, a free upgrade to 512GB storage and a qualifying trade-in worth up to $1,000. It was a before-tax device subtotal, not a permanent unlocked price or an all-in checkout total.
How Samsung reached the $899 figure
The reported promotion stacked several separate benefits. Samsung’s targeted offer effectively reduced the 512GB pre-order price to $1,899, then a maximum eligible trade-in credit could reduce the device subtotal by another $1,000.
| Deal component | Amount |
|---|---|
| 512GB pre-order price after the reported extra discount | $1,899 |
| Maximum eligible trade-in credit | Up to $1,000 |
| Best-case device subtotal | $899 before tax |
Droid Life’s July 21, 2025 report said Samsung’s message described an extra $100 as doubled reservation credit for accessories, while the checkout behavior appeared to apply it directly to the phone. That observed mechanism should not be treated as a universal Samsung pricing policy.
Who could qualify?
This was a targeted pre-order offer, not a public $899 price available to every shopper. The strongest available evidence indicates that buyers generally needed to meet all of these conditions:

- They had previously reserved the Galaxy Z Fold7.
- They had not yet completed their pre-order.
- They received Samsung’s promotional email or had a working offer link associated with their account.
- They completed the transaction through the Shop Samsung app.
- They submitted a trade-in device accepted under the applicable Samsung offer.
The reported email used wording similar to “Get up to $1,250 in total savings on Galaxy Z Series.” Targeting, account association and availability could vary, so an email or live Samsung checkout—not the headline alone—determined eligibility.
Why the 512GB model mattered
The promotion centered on the 512GB Galaxy Z Fold7. Samsung’s launch announcement listed 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities, while the pre-order offer effectively upgraded buyers from 256GB to 512GB at no extra storage charge. The $899 calculation did not establish a $899 price for the 1TB model.
Samsung announced U.S. pre-orders on July 9, 2025, with general availability beginning July 25, 2025. The deal report appeared during that pre-order window, which is why it should be understood as a launch promotion rather than a normal retail price. Samsung’s launch announcement listed a starting price of $1,999.99.
“Up to $1,000” did not mean everyone received $1,000
Samsung’s trade-in amount depended on the device submitted and the offer assigned at checkout. Model, storage capacity, condition, carrier or unlocked status and other eligibility checks could change the estimate. Someone with a lower-value phone would pay more than $899; someone without an eligible trade-in would receive no trade-in reduction.

A checkout estimate is also not necessarily the final credit. The old phone generally must be shipped by the stated deadline and pass Samsung’s inspection. Before ordering, verify the exact model and storage, power-on status, account-lock removal, physical condition and the consequences if inspection changes the quoted value. Use the live Samsung terms for the offer rather than assuming a particular phone will receive the maximum.
What the $899 did—and did not—include
The reported $899 amount was the device subtotal before tax. It did not establish a universal out-the-door total. State and local taxes, shipping where applicable, accessories, protection plans, financing costs and any remaining balance on the traded-in phone could add to the amount owed.
Accordingly, “as low as $899 before tax” is accurate; “the Fold7 cost $899” without qualification is not.
When the promotion was a strong value
Owners of high-value recent phones
The offer was most compelling for a reservation holder whose current flagship qualified for Samsung’s maximum or near-maximum credit and who wanted the 512GB foldable immediately.

Buyers who specifically wanted a foldable
The Fold7’s large inner display, multitasking features, Samsung ecosystem integration and 512GB capacity could justify the launch purchase for someone comfortable buying during a pre-order period.
When the headline was less useful
Lower-value or no trade-in
Without a $1,000-class trade-in, the effective pre-order price was higher. With no trade-in, the reported promotion pointed to approximately $1,899 before tax—not $899.
Existing installment balances
A remaining balance on the old phone can reduce the practical value of a trade-in. Include that payoff obligation when comparing the Samsung subtotal with other options.
Shoppers comparing carrier offers
Carrier promotions may rely on monthly bill credits, required service plans, activation fees and multi-month commitments. Compare the full service obligation, not just an advertised monthly payment, with Samsung’s unlocked-device subtotal.

People who do not need a foldable
A conventional premium phone may provide a simpler ownership proposition for buyers prioritizing battery value, durability familiarity or a lower total cost. The $899 result only made the Fold7 unusually attractive for shoppers who could meet the promotion’s conditions.
What happened if the offer was missing?
If the discount did not appear in the Shop Samsung app, possible explanations included a different Samsung account or email, no qualifying reservation, an expired targeted offer, inventory or geographic limits, or a changed checkout flow. Check the reservation email, sign into the associated Samsung account and review the live checkout. Do not assume the $899 price applies merely because another customer saw it.

As of August 18, 2026, no available evidence shows the July 2025 pre-order promotion still active. Samsung’s captured U.S. listing showed these regular unlocked prices:
| Storage | Listed price |
|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,999.99 |
| 512GB | $2,199.99 |
| 1TB | $2,499.99 |
The listing also showed the phone as out of stock in the captured page, although inventory can vary by storage tier, color and region. Samsung continued to display trade-in savings of up to $1,000, but that current ceiling should not be read backward as proof that every 2025 buyer received the full amount. Check the current Samsung buying page for live price, stock and trade-in terms.

Buying details worth budgeting
Samsung’s official specifications page lists the Fold7 at 215 grams, with an approximately 8-inch main display, a typical 4,400mAh battery, a 200MP main camera, Samsung DeX support and security updates listed through July 31, 2032. The charger is not included in the box. These are ownership considerations, not evidence that the historical promotion remains available. See Samsung’s specifications page.
Samsung’s purchase page has also shown optional Samsung Care+ coverage and installment or pay-in-four payment choices. Protection premiums, deductibles, enrollment rules and financing terms are separate from the phone discount and can change by state and over time. Monthly payments change cash flow; they do not by themselves lower the phone’s total price.
The Bottom Line
The Galaxy Z Fold7’s $899 headline was genuine, but only as a best-case July 2025 pre-order outcome: a targeted reservation offer, a 512GB storage upgrade and a trade-in worth up to $1,000. It was not a permanent price cut, a universal unlocked price or an all-in total.
