For most WordPress-focused agencies, Flywheel is the strongest fit when client workflow and billing handoff matter; SiteGround GoGeek is the budget-oriented choice for standard sites; and Kinsta suits agencies willing to pay more for managed operations. WP Engine is worth a sales conversation for established or complex portfolios. There is no universal winner: compare renewal cost, resource limits, client ownership, and the staff time you will spend operating the service—not just the number of sites a plan advertises.
Quick comparison of agency hosting plans
Prices and features below reflect the providers’ cited public pages as reviewed for this comparison. Offers, checkout terms, and eligibility can change; confirm the amount and billing period shown at checkout before committing.
| Provider and option | Published price and billing basis | Sites and stated capacity | Agency workflow | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flywheel Freelance | $96/month; $1,150/year is also displayed. Annual billing is described as including two months free; prices may vary by server location. | Up to 10 sites; 100,000 monthly visits; 20 GB storage; 200 GB bandwidth. | Staging, collaborators, migrations, nightly backups, SSL, and billing transfer through its agency-oriented offering. | Managed WordPress focus; no email accounts; excess visits and storage can incur charges. |
| Flywheel Agency | $242/month; $2,900/year is also displayed. A separate reseller page displays $290/month for Agency, so verify the applicable price and terms for your account. | Up to 30 sites; 400,000 monthly visits; 50 GB storage; 500 GB bandwidth. | Agency partner resources, staging, collaborators, migrations, backups, and billing transfer. | Its maximum site count is not a promise of equal capacity for every site; overages and separate email costs affect the bill. |
| SiteGround GrowBig | $4.99/month promotional first-invoice rate; $17.99/month renewal rate. Promotional pricing is tied to prepaid 12-month purchase. | Unlimited websites; 50 GB; approximately 100,000 monthly visits. | Collaborators, WordPress Migrator, WP-CLI, SG Optimizer. | Unlimited websites does not mean unlimited server resources; renewal is substantially higher than the offer price. |
| SiteGround GoGeek | $7.99/month promotional first-invoice rate; $29.99/month renewal rate. Promotional pricing is tied to prepaid 12-month purchase. | Unlimited websites; 100 GB; approximately 400,000 monthly visits. | Collaborators and white-label availability, plus the WordPress tools listed for SiteGround. | Visit capacity is an estimate, not a performance guarantee; resource contention and account-level limits still matter. |
| SiteGround Cloud | From $100/month; the cited page also shows $100/month as the renewal price. | Customizable; starting configuration shown as 4 CPU cores, 8 GB RAM, and 40 GB SSD. No simple fixed site count is presented. | White-label availability, customizable cloud resources, and an autoscaling option. | More resources and flexibility require the agency to size and monitor its environment. |
| Kinsta multi-site | A visible offer shows a two-install configuration at a regular $70/month, with $700 annual billing after the first month in that offer. Check the current offer and billing terms. | The cited offer shows 20 GB storage, 40 GB server bandwidth, and 250 GB CDN bandwidth; other limits depend on the selected plan. | Flexible user permissions, unbranded WordPress admin, migrations, account management for eligible agencies, and managed security and performance features. | Premium WordPress hosting can be uneconomic for low-margin portfolios; agency benefits and credits may require eligibility. |
| WP Engine agency offering | Current standardized agency pricing is not stated on the cited agency page; use its current pricing or sales process for a quote. | Plan capacity and limits depend on the quoted offering. | Agency partner positioning, portfolio management, and support for complex WordPress projects. | Less straightforward for buyers who need a published, self-serve price to model margins. |
| Cloudways | Current price not stated here; confirm the current configuration and total at the official pricing page. | Depends on the chosen cloud infrastructure and configuration. | Managed access to cloud infrastructure with more flexibility than a fixed WordPress portfolio plan. | More decisions about sizing, add-ons, and operations; not equivalent to a fully managed WordPress workflow. |
| Pressable | Current price and limits not stated here; check the official plans page. | Depends on the selected plan. | WordPress-focused managed hosting. | Verify whether its current plan and workflow features suit your client handoff and resale model. |
“Not stated” means the cited page information used here does not establish a comparable fixed value; it is not a claim that the provider lacks that feature or capacity.
First decide what you mean by agency hosting
Managed WordPress portfolio hosting
The provider operates much of the WordPress hosting stack, while the agency manages sites and clients. This can include backups, caching, security controls, migrations, staging, and support. Flywheel, Kinsta, and WP Engine primarily compete on reduced operational work and agency workflows, rather than simply offering the largest disk allowance.
#1 Best Overall
Reseller hosting
A reseller account lets an agency package and sell hosting, sometimes with separate client accounts, custom packages, white-labeling, or billing tools. It may still leave server administration and incident response to the agency. A reseller account is not automatically managed WordPress hosting, so compare who handles security, backups, updates, and support before comparing its monthly price with a managed portfolio plan.
Shared or semi-managed multi-site hosting
These plans can make it inexpensive to host many ordinary sites. SiteGround’s GrowBig and GoGeek advertise unlimited websites, but still specify storage and estimated monthly visits. The sites may share account resources, so check how a traffic spike, compromise, or resource-heavy application could affect the rest of the portfolio.
Managed cloud or VPS
Cloud and VPS options can offer more control over resources, regions, and application types. They make more sense when the agency can own server configuration, security hardening, monitoring, backups and restores, updates, incident response, and resource sizing. A lower infrastructure bill does not automatically mean a lower total cost once staff time and recovery risk are included.
Which plan fits your agency?
One to five small brochure sites
Start by comparing the number of sites you will actually host against the fixed plan price. A large portfolio tier can be poor value when most of its capacity sits unused. SiteGround’s introductory offer may look inexpensive, but model its renewal price; a single-site or smaller managed plan may be more appropriate when you prioritize managed WordPress service over low cost.

Five to 15 WordPress sites with maintenance retainers
Compare Flywheel Freelance with SiteGround GoGeek on ongoing cost, staff time, and client workflow. Flywheel’s included agency-oriented tools and billing-transfer capability can help when your process includes building under agency control and handing billing to the client. GoGeek may cost less for a broad set of ordinary sites, but its promotional and renewal rates differ sharply, and its unlimited site count does not remove resource limits.
Fifteen to 30 WordPress sites
Flywheel Agency lists capacity for up to 30 sites, while SiteGround GoGeek advertises unlimited websites subject to its stated storage and visit estimates. Compare realistic portfolio usage—not just maximum count—and consider whether sites need independent capacity or whether shared resources are acceptable. For higher-value clients, also request a Kinsta or WP Engine proposal and compare the support and administration included.
WooCommerce and other dynamic sites
Do not choose based on brochure-site visit estimates alone. WooCommerce, membership, learning-management, search-heavy, and appointment sites place different demands on database performance, PHP workers, object caching, cron jobs, and transactional email. Ask providers about the limits and support relevant to your application, then test representative workflows in staging before moving production traffic.
White-label maintenance packages
Distinguish an unbranded WordPress dashboard from a true reseller system. Kinsta lists an unbranded WordPress admin experience; SiteGround lists white-label availability on GoGeek and Cloud; Flywheel’s partner offering includes reseller-oriented resources and billing transfer. Those are useful but do not, by themselves, establish branded billing, a custom client portal, custom packages, or complete account ownership transfer.
Rank #3
Enterprise, regulated, or technically complex portfolios
Ask for a plan-specific proposal, documentation, and contractual commitments rather than general marketing assurances. Kinsta describes bespoke enterprise agreements and an SLA-backed uptime guarantee of up to 99.99% for enterprise arrangements; do not apply that guarantee to ordinary self-serve plans. WP Engine’s agency page highlights complex portfolios and partner support, but its customer examples are not plan-capacity guarantees.
Mixed WordPress, PHP, and Node applications
WordPress-first portfolio services may not be the right home for every application. Consider a managed cloud or VPS if the team can support the stack, and compare application compatibility, isolation, backups, security responsibility, and support boundaries before moving client sites together.
Understand the real cost per client site
The advertised monthly amount is only one component of the agency’s cost. Use these calculations with the actual bill and the number of sites you will host:
- Effective monthly plan cost: total annual hosting bill ÷ 12.
- Cost per active site: monthly plan cost ÷ sites actually hosted, not the maximum allowed.
- Cost including usage: plan price + overages + required backup, CDN, or other add-ons.
- Total cost of service: hosting and add-ons + staff time for maintenance and support + expected incident-response and recovery effort.
For a practical illustration, Flywheel Agency at its displayed $242/month works out to $24.20 per site at 10 sites, $12.10 at 20, and about $8.07 at 30. These are simple plan-price divisions, not all-in costs; they exclude overages, add-ons, taxes, email, and any difference between the pricing page and the terms presented to your account.

SiteGround’s cited agency page lists GrowBig at $4.99/month promotional and $17.99/month at renewal, and GoGeek at $7.99 promotional and $29.99 at renewal. Because the special rates apply to prepaid 12-month purchases, compare the first invoice with the renewal bill rather than multiplying the introductory rate across future years. Its Cloud plan is shown from $100/month, with the same amount shown for renewal.
Flywheel’s pricing page also lists $1 per 1,000 additional monthly visitors and $1 per additional GB of storage. It defines a visit as a unique IP address in a 24-hour period. The same page says excess visits and storage incur charges; forecast using that definition rather than assuming every provider counts traffic the same way. A separate Flywheel reseller page displays different monthly figures from the main pricing page, so confirm the checkout terms that apply to your plan.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Limits and workflow details that affect the decision
Traffic, storage, and shared resources
Read site count alongside visit estimates, storage, bandwidth, CPU, memory, database capacity, and any inode or PHP-worker limits the provider publishes for the specific plan. SiteGround’s visit numbers are estimates, not guaranteed performance levels. “Unlimited websites” describes permitted site count, not unlimited processing capacity or independently isolated resources.
Staging, deployment, and recovery
Ask whether staging is available for every site, how it can be cloned, and whether deployment can push files and database changes separately. Find out what happens to media uploads and how to roll back a failed release. Staging is for testing; it does not replace an independent backup, a downloadable archive, or a documented recovery procedure.

Client users and access control
Check whether client and contractor permissions can be limited to the access each needs, whether production access can be withheld, and how quickly a departing user can be removed. Kinsta advertises flexible access management and unlimited users on its pricing page. Confirm which permissions are available on the particular plan you would buy.
Backups, security, and support
Compare backup frequency and retention, restore process, downloadable copies, malware response, support hours, and escalation paths. Flywheel lists nightly backups and 24/7 support. Kinsta lists a managed WAF, DDoS protection, 24/7 support, and free malware removal. These are provider-described features, not guarantees that a site cannot be compromised; establish who is responsible for recovery and what the support team will handle.
Email, domains, and ownership
Treat hosting, domain registration, and email as separate services unless the plan explicitly says otherwise. Flywheel states it does not provide email accounts. Keep a written record of who owns the domain, hosting account, DNS, and backups, and who pays renewals. The client agreement should explain access after termination, migration rights, backup retention, and what happens if the client stops paying.
Restrictions and portability
Before moving a site, check the host’s current plugin and server-compatibility documentation for caching, backup, and security tools that may conflict with managed features. Also confirm how to export WordPress files and database, use SFTP or WP-CLI if needed, and move one client site without relocating the whole portfolio. A plan is easier to leave when you have tested a complete backup and restore path before an emergency.
Quick Recap
How to price hosting inside a maintenance plan
- Choose the billing model. Decide whether the client pays the host directly or the agency resells or bundles hosting. Direct client billing can simplify ownership; bundling makes the agency responsible for clear renewal, usage, and exit terms.
- Calculate a normal month and a busy month. Include renewal pricing, the likely number of active sites, storage growth, visit overages, and any paid services such as email or backups.
- Put operational labor in the margin. Estimate routine updates, monitoring, support requests, and the time required to restore or migrate a site. A low-cost plan can lose its advantage if the agency takes on work the provider would otherwise manage.
- Set client and exit responsibilities in writing. Define who owns the account, who controls domain and DNS, what backup is delivered, and how the client receives access or a migration if the relationship ends.
Questions to ask before buying
- What exact price will appear on the first invoice and at renewal, and is the displayed monthly figure an annual equivalent?
- How are visits or bandwidth counted, and what happens when a site exceeds its allowance: a charge, throttling, an upgrade, or another action?
- Are backups downloadable, how long are they retained, and can one site be restored independently?
- Can the client own or take over billing without a disruptive migration, and can one site leave the account on its own?
- Which staging, collaborator, white-label, and billing-transfer features are included in this exact plan?
- What does support cover for WordPress, plugins, malware cleanup, and custom code, and is an SLA part of the contract?
- Is email included? If not, who provisions and supports it?
- Are any plugins, server modules, cron behaviors, or resource-intensive workloads restricted?
- What are the cancellation and refund terms? Flywheel states its 60-day money-back guarantee excludes Agency and Custom plans.
Decision guide
- Choose Flywheel when your business centers on managed WordPress, staging, client collaboration, and billing handoff, and the cost fits your maintenance margin.
- Choose SiteGround GoGeek when many standard sites and low ongoing cost matter more than premium WordPress-specific workflow, after budgeting for the renewal rate and resource limits.
- Choose Kinsta when the clients’ site value and need for managed security, administration, and support justify a premium WordPress service; confirm plan limits and agency-benefit eligibility.
- Talk to WP Engine when you run an established or complex WordPress portfolio and partner support matters more than a published self-serve price.
- Consider Cloudways or a managed VPS when your team can take responsibility for infrastructure decisions and operations, and can demonstrate that the savings exceed the added labor and risk.
