The advertised $1,100 savings on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra was a real May 2024 deal, but it was not a $1,100 price cut for every shopper. It combined a configuration-dependent discount with as much as $800 in trade-in credit. The reported lowest prices—$199.99 for the 256GB model and $519.99 for the 1TB model—assumed the maximum applicable savings, and this promotion is historical, not a verified offer available in August 2026.
What the May 2024 promotion included
Samsung’s Discover Week promotion was reported on May 20, 2024. It covered the Galaxy Tab S9 line, with the largest advertised savings associated with the Tab S9 Ultra. The deal report described an upfront price reduction and trade-in credit; the amount of the direct discount varied by storage configuration. Droid Life’s May 20, 2024 report is the source for the promotion details and reported checkout prices.
That distinction matters when assessing a deal headline. A direct discount lowers the tablet’s price before trade-in. Trade-in credit is conditional on handing over an eligible device, and the maximum depends on the device Samsung accepts and its applicable terms. The headline combined these kinds of savings; it did not mean Samsung reduced every Tab S9 Ultra’s standard price by $1,100.
How the deal reached the $1,100 headline
The contemporary report cited a $200 direct discount on the base model, up to $800 in Samsung tablet trade-in credit, and larger direct discounts on some higher-storage configurations—reportedly up to $300 on the 16GB/1TB model. The Tab S8 Ultra was identified as a device that could qualify for the maximum trade-in value.

| Part of the promotion | Reported value | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| Base-model direct discount | $200 | Reported price reduction on the 12GB/256GB configuration. |
| Higher-tier direct discount | Up to $300 | Reported maximum direct discount for some configurations; not the same discount on every model. |
| Eligible tablet trade-in | Up to $800 | Maximum reported credit, associated with qualifying Samsung tablets such as the Tab S8 Ultra. |
| Advertised maximum | Up to $1,100 | A best-case combination tied to the selected configuration and maximum trade-in—not a universal price cut. |
The headline total does not reconcile as simply “$200 off plus $800 trade-in”: those two figures add to $1,000. The report also described larger direct discounts for higher-storage models, so the maximum depended on the configuration and trade-in combination. The available figures do not establish a single identical $1,100 savings calculation for every model.
Reported final prices by configuration
These are historical deal examples reported in May 2024, not prices available now. Each depended on the maximum applicable discounts and trade-in credit; a shopper without a qualifying high-value device would not necessarily have paid these amounts.
| Configuration | Reported deal price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 12GB RAM / 256GB storage | $199.99 | Reported lowest price after maximum applicable savings and trade-in. |
| 16GB RAM / 1TB storage | $519.99 | Reported price after maximum applicable savings and trade-in. |
| 512GB storage | Not stated | The May 20, 2024 report does not establish a comparable final price for this configuration. |
Samsung launched the 256GB Tab S9 Ultra in the United States at $1,199.99. Its 2023 launch announcement gives that starting price. Samsung’s later U.S. MSRP documentation lists the Wi-Fi variants at approximately $1,199 for 256GB, $1,319.99 for 512GB, and $1,619.99 for 1TB, and marks the hardware end-of-life in that listing. These reference prices do not establish current inventory or a current sale. Samsung’s October 2024 MSRP file

What you got with the Tab S9 Ultra
The S9 Ultra is a very large Android tablet, best understood as a big-screen device for media, drawing, and multitasking rather than a compact slate. Samsung’s specifications and launch announcement describe a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2,960 × 1,848 resolution and a 60–120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The tablet uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and launched with Android 13.

Samsung presents DeX, Multi Window, S Pen input, Multi Control, and Quick Share as productivity and ecosystem features for the Tab S9 series. DeX provides a desktop-style interface, but whether Android apps and workflows can replace a laptop depends on what the user needs to do. The S Pen was included; a keyboard was not part of the deal prices described above.
Who would have benefited most
Owners with a valuable Samsung tablet to trade in
The strongest savings depended on qualifying for substantial trade-in credit. An existing Tab S8 Ultra owner who wanted a newer large-screen Samsung tablet was closer to the promotion’s best-case scenario than a shopper buying without a trade-in. The exact credit depended on Samsung’s active eligibility and valuation terms, which the reported figures alone do not fully establish.

People who specifically want a very large display
The 14.6-inch screen is useful for split-screen work, video, drawing, and DeX. Its size is also a trade-off: it is less convenient to hold or carry than a smaller tablet. If your main use is reading on the go or casual browsing, the Ultra’s defining feature may be more size than you need.
Artists, note-takers, and media users
The included S Pen, large AMOLED display, speakers, and microSD expansion make the tablet a plausible fit for drawing, handwritten notes, streaming, and storing offline media. Internal storage still matters for apps and large creative projects, but expandable storage can reduce the need to pay extra for every file or download.

Who should think twice
- Buyers without an eligible trade-in: The $1,100 headline was not their likely discount; the meaningful savings would have been the configuration’s direct promotion.
- Shoppers seeking a compact tablet: The Ultra’s very large display is valuable for some tasks but compromises portability.
- People who need desktop-class software: DeX is desktop-style, not a guarantee that every laptop app or workflow will work on Android.
- Buyers prioritizing the longest support runway: Samsung said at launch that the Tab S9 series would receive four generations of One UI/Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Because the tablet launched in 2023, less of that stated support period remained by August 2026; the launch promise alone does not establish an exact end date for support.
- Anyone considering it only because of the headline: A past best-case price is not evidence that the same offer—or even comparable inventory—is available now.
Costs and conditions beyond the headline
A discounted tablet is not the whole cost if you also need a keyboard or protection. Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP file lists the S9 Ultra-compatible Book Cover Keyboard Slim at $199.99 and the full Book Cover Keyboard at $349.99. Those are accessory MSRP figures from that file, not proof of current selling prices. A keyboard can be useful for DeX and long-form typing, but it materially raises the total cost. Trade-in credit was conditional, not guaranteed. The reported maximum does not specify all device-condition rules or establish how a damaged device would be valued. The promotion report also does not settle an individual shopper’s taxes, shipping, color or storage availability, or final order total. Those details can change what a buyer actually pays and should not be inferred from the advertised maximum.
Is the $1,100 offer still available?
No current version of the May 2024 promotion is established by the available listings. Samsung’s comparison page still shows Tab S9 Ultra product information and a starting MSRP, but that does not confirm active stock or a live promotion. Samsung’s October 2024 MSRP file marks the hardware end-of-life. As of August 2026, treat the $199.99 and $519.99 examples as historical reported prices, not current checkout offers. Check a live Samsung or retailer listing before buying.
This was not the only similar promotion: Droid Life also reported a Samsung Discover Week offer on September 11, 2023, with its own savings and storage-upgrade details. The dates matter; that earlier promotion is separate from the May 20, 2024 deal discussed here. September 2023 promotion report
For buyers comparing a newer Samsung option, the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra appears in Samsung’s U.S. listings. It may suit someone who values newer hardware and a longer remaining support runway, but the S9 Ultra deal report is not a current price comparison; verify the S11 Ultra’s live price before choosing.
