Short answer: The Galaxy S25 Ultra is not generally $900 cheaper as an unlocked phone. Samsung’s cited U.S. listing showed a 256GB unlocked model at $999.99, down $300 from $1,299.99. The “up to $900 off” figure refers to carrier promotional bill credits—most clearly a T-Mobile offer—not an instant $900 reduction available to every buyer.
The figures below reflect U.S. offer pages indexed for August 16, 2026. Carrier and retailer promotions can change, so verify the exact checkout terms before ordering.
What the $900 headline actually means
There are several different kinds of phone savings, and the headline combines them too easily:
- Instant discount: deducted from the price at checkout.
- Instant trade-in credit: applied when you submit an eligible old phone, subject to inspection.
- Monthly bill credits: the carrier offsets part of your device payment over a fixed term.
- New-line promotion: requires adding a line, often on a specified plan.
- Switcher promotion: requires porting in from an eligible carrier.
- “Up to” pricing: applies only to qualifying devices, plans, storage tiers and customer types.
A carrier can advertise “up to $900 off” while charging sales tax on the phone’s full pre-credit price and spreading the promotion across 24 bills. It is not cash back, and it is not automatically available on an unlocked handset.

- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
For example, $900 spread over 24 months equals $37.50 in promotional credits per month. If the phone is financed, you still have a device-payment agreement, a wireless-service bill and any required fees.

Samsung’s unlocked deal
Samsung’s cited 256GB unlocked page listed one color at $999.99, reduced from $1,299.99. That is a straightforward $300 reduction before tax. The same page listed the 512GB version at $1,119.99 and the 1TB version at $1,359.99 during the indexed sale. Other colors or out-of-stock configurations could show the original price, so do not assume every SKU receives the same reduction.
See the listing at Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra unlocked purchase page. Samsung’s general offers page advertised up to $520 or more in instant trade-in credit, while some product configurations displayed a maximum of up to $570. Those are maximum estimates, not guaranteed values for every phone.

An unlocked purchase suits people who want to retain their current carrier, use a low-cost plan, or remain free to switch before a carrier-credit period ends. It also avoids waiting for monthly credits. Samsung’s page states that the phone does not include a charger in the box, and optional Samsung Care+ pricing is separate from the phone discount.
How the T-Mobile $900 promotion works
Samsung’s T-Mobile SKU page and indexed T-Mobile store pages showed offers of up to $900 in trade-in bill credits. The exact promotion must be confirmed at checkout because eligibility and amounts change.
- Choose an eligible Galaxy S25 Ultra and finance it through the carrier’s device-payment plan.
- Add a new line, port in from an eligible carrier, or satisfy the applicable existing-customer requirement.
- Use the qualifying rate plan specified in the offer.
- Submit an eligible trade-in when required.
- Pay sales tax on the phone’s pre-credit price and any stated connection or activation charge.
- Keep the line, plan and account in good standing while credits are issued.
Indexed T-Mobile terms describe variants using 24 monthly credits, a possible $35 device-connection charge and, for one promotion, an $85-per-month-or-more plan with AutoPay. Some offers may take up to two billing cycles before credits appear. The exact plan, term and device limit are promotion-specific.
Read the current offer at T-Mobile’s indexed store offer page and compare it with the Samsung T-Mobile product page.

What happens if you leave T-Mobile?
Promotional credits are conditional. Canceling the line, downgrading to an ineligible plan, paying off the device early or otherwise ending the qualifying arrangement can stop future credits. The remaining device balance may then become due.
That is why a phone advertised as “free” can require a multi-year commitment. Compare the carrier’s total service cost with buying the phone unlocked and keeping your existing plan. Include the cost of a new line if you would not otherwise add one.
Who receives the maximum trade-in amount?
The highest credit normally applies only to specified models and conditions. Before ordering, confirm:
- Exact trade-in model and storage capacity.
- Whether it powers on, holds a charge and has a functioning display.
- Screen and body condition, including any cracks or liquid damage.
- That it is not blacklisted, financed or subject to an activation lock.
- That personal data is removed and software locks are disabled.
- Whether the promotion is for a new line, switcher or upgrade.
- Which rate plan, financing term and storage tier qualify.
- The promotion’s expiration date and device-per-account limit.
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra offer terms say the trade-in must be shipped within 15 days of receiving the new purchase. A late shipment or failed inspection can result in the applied credit being charged back. The terms also distinguish ordinary eligibility from any special cracked-screen offer, and generally prohibit combining trade-in promotions unless the terms expressly allow it.

Damaged, financed or locked trade-in phones
Cracked or damaged devices
Do not assume a cracked phone receives the maximum. Standard trade-in rules, a special damaged-device promotion and carrier-specific rules can produce different values. The inspection result controls the final credit.
A phone that is still financed
A trade-in promotion does not automatically erase what you owe your current carrier. You may have to keep paying the old device balance while receiving credits on the new one.
Locked or blacklisted phones
Remove Samsung, Google and carrier locks, factory-reset the device and verify that it is not reported lost or stolen. Keep photographs of its condition and shipping proof in case the inspection is disputed.

- Any remaining balance if credits stop.
- The trade-in phone’s value if you could sell it elsewhere.
- Insurance, accessories and other optional purchases.
A $900 carrier credit can be financially attractive when you already pay for the qualifying plan and intend to stay for the full credit period. It can be worse than Samsung’s $999.99 unlocked sale if the required plan costs substantially more than your current service or you expect to leave soon.
Which deal fits your situation?
Choose Samsung unlocked if
- You want carrier freedom or may switch within two years.
- You already have an inexpensive wireless plan.
- Your trade-in will not qualify for the carrier’s top tier.
- You prefer an immediate, predictable device discount.
Choose the T-Mobile promotion if
- You already have a qualifying T-Mobile plan.
- You are genuinely switching or adding a line.
- Your trade-in meets the highest promotional tier.
- You will keep the required plan and line through the entire credit schedule.
Consider a retailer if
You prefer a single retail transaction or a gift-card promotion, but verify whether the listing is unlocked, requires activation and uses carrier credits. The indexed Best Buy page does not prove a current universal $900 unlocked offer.
Before you submit the order
- Capture the advertised price, trade-in value, plan name and credit duration.
- Confirm the exact storage capacity and color SKU.
- Read whether tax is charged before credits and note every activation fee.
- Calculate your service cost over the full credit term.
- Check the trade-in deadline and inspection rules.
- Back up, factory-reset and photograph the old phone before shipping.
- Review the first two bills; credits may not appear immediately.
Bottom line
The Galaxy S25 Ultra can be promoted at up to $900 off, but that figure is a carrier-credit maximum tied to eligibility, financing and service—not a universal unlocked price cut. The clearest unlocked deal in the cited evidence is Samsung’s $999.99 256GB listing, $300 below the former $1,299.99 price. Choose the carrier offer only when its required plan and commitment cost less than the flexibility of buying unlocked.
