If you have money in a U.S. Google Pay Balance, Google says it remains accessible and there is currently no deadline to withdraw it. The standalone U.S. Google Pay app ended in 2024, and Google removed the Balance Card payment feature on June 22, 2026. Those changes did not erase remaining balance funds. To reduce the chance of a future access or verification snag, transfer a substantial balance to an eligible linked bank account or debit card using Google Wallet.
What ended—and what did not
There have been two separate changes, and neither means that all Google Pay services or every saved card disappeared:

- The U.S. standalone Google Pay app: It stopped being available for use on June 4, 2024. Peer-to-peer sending, requesting, and receiving through that U.S. app ended. Google moved tap-to-pay and saved payment methods to Google Wallet. Google Pay checkout remains available on supported websites and apps. Google’s U.S. transition announcement.
- The Google Pay Balance Card: Google says the virtual card was removed as a payment method on June 22, 2026. That is a change to how the balance could be used to pay, not a statement that remaining funds were deleted. Google’s balance guidance.
Google’s current U.S. balance guidance says remaining funds can be transferred out and that there is no current withdrawal deadline. “Accessible” does not guarantee an immediate transfer: you may need the correct Google Account and payments profile, an eligible linked destination, or additional identity checks. Account restrictions or technical problems may also require support.

| What you mean | What it is | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pay Balance | Funds held through Google’s U.S. payment-balance service. | Google says remaining funds can be transferred to an eligible linked bank account or debit card. See Google’s balance guidance. |
| Google Play balance | Store credit for Google Play purchases, not the Google Pay Balance. | Do not assume it can be transferred as cash or between accounts. Google advises handling Google Play balance before closing a payments profile. See Google’s profile-closure guidance. |
| Cards in Google Wallet | Supported debit, credit, and other payment cards saved in Wallet. | These are separate from the Balance Card change. The card issuer holds the account or debt; Google Wallet stores the payment method. |
| Bank or credit-card balance | A deposit or debt with your financial institution. | The Google Pay app and Balance Card changes do not transfer or cancel these balances. |
Google Wallet is the app; Google Pay is also a checkout service. Wallet handles supported tap-to-pay and stored payment methods, while Google Pay checkout remains available on participating websites and apps. Neither label means that a bank deposit or Google Play store credit is a Google Pay Balance. Details on checkout availability are in Google’s Google Pay checkout guidance.
How to transfer a Google Pay Balance out
- Open the Google Wallet app and make sure you are signed in to the Google Account that owns the funds.
- Tap the balance or profile button associated with the Google Pay Balance.
- Select Transfer out.
- Choose an eligible linked bank account or debit card, then enter the amount.
- Review the destination and amount carefully, and confirm the transfer.
- Keep the confirmation or transaction record until the funds arrive.
Google’s support path is Wallet → balance/profile button → Transfer out. Labels and availability can vary by account, device, app version, and region, so use the wording shown in your own app. Google does not establish one transfer time for every user; do not treat a transfer as instant unless the displayed option confirms its timing. Google’s U.S. terms list a $0 fee for using funds and transferring funds in connection with a balance-linked payment method, but a bank, card issuer, or other provider may have its own charges. See Google’s U.S. payments terms.

If the balance is large
Before transferring, download or save records and confirm the destination account details. If you are uncertain about the route, a small test transfer can help verify that the destination is correct before you move more. This is a practical precaution, not a Google requirement. For a sizeable transfer, allow for possible verification or review rather than assuming it will settle immediately.
If “Transfer out” is missing or a transfer fails
- Check the account and country. The balance guidance here concerns Google Pay Balance in the United States. If you use more than one Google Account, switch to the one that owns the balance. Check the relevant payments profile through the Google Wallet website or Google Payments Center.
- Update Wallet and check the destination. Install available Google Wallet updates from your official app store. Confirm that the linked bank account or debit card is still valid and eligible. Replace an expired card only if Google offers that option.
- Look for a verification request or account restriction. Incomplete identity checks, a review, or a negative balance can affect what actions are available. Follow in-app instructions; if the control remains unavailable or a transfer does not complete, contact Google Pay support.
- Save evidence before contacting support. Record the balance, the date and amount of any attempted transfer, the destination shown, and any confirmation or error message. Google says the current balance is visible in Wallet and that complete transaction history and past monthly records can be viewed or downloaded on the web. Keep relevant statements for your records.
Do not create a new account or close the existing payments profile to make a missing balance appear. If a transaction was unauthorized or you need to dispute a balance transaction, use Google’s support and error-resolution process described in its balance guidance.

If the balance is negative
A negative balance can follow a sender’s bank chargeback, a bank-funded transfer that failed because the account lacked enough money, or a temporary dispute credit that was reversed after the dispute was rejected. Google says users currently cannot add funds through the old mechanism to settle the negative balance. Contact Google Pay support for negative-balance help rather than trying to top up through an obsolete flow. Google’s U.S. terms also say it may restrict services, debit a linked funding account, or use a third party to recover a negative amount.
Do not close your payments profile just to remove the app
Uninstalling an app and closing a Google payments profile are different actions. Profile closure can affect payment history, stored payment methods, and activity across services such as Google Play, Google Ads, Google Fi, and Google One. It can also affect Google Pay access. Read Google’s profile-closure guidance before closing anything, and handle any Google Pay or Google Play balance first. Family Manager and supervised-user accounts can have additional balance considerations under Google’s U.S. terms.

Should you withdraw the money now?
Google currently says there is no deadline to withdraw remaining U.S. Google Pay Balance funds. Leaving a balance is therefore not the same as losing it. Still, moving a substantial amount to a verified bank account or debit card can reduce your dependence on continued access to the Google account, Wallet, and support. The trade-off is that the destination must be eligible, and a transfer may take time or require review. If you leave the money for now, keep access to the correct account and check the balance and transaction records when needed.
Do not count on spending the funds at merchants: the Balance Card payment feature has been removed, and Google’s guidance emphasizes transferring out. The removal does not affect ordinary cards saved in Wallet. Tap-to-pay through Wallet and Google Pay checkout on supported websites and apps are separate services. If someone owes you money, do not ask them to use the retired U.S. Google Pay app’s peer-to-peer feature; that app no longer supports sending, requesting, or receiving.
