Verizon said the adjustment could begin no sooner than March 1, 2024, and customers could keep their existing plans and benefits. As of August 2026, the decision is whether those grandfathered perks still justify the higher price compared with Verizon’s current plans.
Which Verizon plans increased?
Verizon’s plan-change FAQs identify a $4-per-month increase for each affected phone line. The stated effective date was “no sooner than March 1, 2024.” A four-line account could therefore see up to $16 more per month before taxes, discounts, device payments or other account changes.
| Affected plan family | Increase | Effective timing | Could customers keep it? |

Was Verizon forcing a plan switch?
No. Verizon said no action was required, customers could retain their plans, and existing benefits would remain available. The practical choice is still significant:

Verizon support material says existing customers may retain plans including 5G Get More, 5G Do More, 5G Play More, Start Get More Unlimited, Do More Unlimited, Play More Unlimited, Above Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited and Go Unlimited. Availability and eligibility are account-specific.
Why some older plans remain valuable
“Best” depends on what a household actually uses. The richest legacy bundles, particularly 5G Get More and Get More Unlimited, combined network access with services Verizon now commonly sells as separate perks.
5G Get More
- Unlimited premium network access.
- 50 GB of premium mobile-hotspot data, then unlimited slower hotspot data.
- Disney+ Premium, Hulu with ads and ESPN+ with ads.
- Apple Music.
- One TravelPass day each month.
- Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass.
- 600 GB of Verizon Cloud storage.
- An additional 5 GB of hotspot data associated with the price change.
Details are documented in Verizon’s 5G Get More plan-change FAQ.

Get More Unlimited
The similarly named Get More Unlimited version is not identical. Verizon’s FAQ lists 75 GB of premium data, 30 GB of 5G/4G LTE hotspot data, Apple Music and 500 GB of Verizon Cloud storage. Check the exact plan name in My Verizon before valuing its benefits.

Verizon’s current standard lineup is centered on Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Ultimate. The advertised prices below require Auto Pay and paper-free billing, exclude taxes and fees, and are $10 higher per line without that discount.
| Current plan | 1 line | 2 lines | 3 lines | 4+ lines | Notable features |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unlimited Welcome | $65 | $55 | $40 | $30 per line | Lower-priced tier; fewer hotspot and premium-network benefits |
| Unlimited Plus | $80 | $70 | $55 | $45 per line | 30 GB hotspot, then slower unlimited access under Verizon’s terms |
| Unlimited Ultimate | $95 | $85 | $70 | $60 per line | 200 GB premium hotspot, then reduced-speed unlimited hotspot; international talk, text and data benefits; 4K streaming under specified conditions |
See Verizon’s current unlimited-plan page for the applicable terms. Verizon also says Unlimited Ultimate 1.0 was retired on May 7, 2026, a separate event from the 2024 legacy-plan increase.

Where Simplicity fits
Verizon advertises Simplicity at $30 per line per month after Auto Pay and a stated $15-per-month switch discount, plus taxes and fees. The advertised package includes unlimited talk, text and data, 5G Ultra Wideband, satellite texting, Verizon Dollars, 10 GB of hotspot data, Call Filter and Verizon Family features.
That $30 figure is not a universal existing-customer price or a direct replacement for Get More. Simplicity may not reproduce legacy streaming bundles, TravelPass days, premium-data allowances or cloud storage. TechRadar reported a $45-per-line price for some existing customers and different multi-line economics; treat that as reported context and verify the offer shown in your account. The official details are on Verizon’s plan page, with additional reporting from TechRadar.

Do not compare only the base plan. Use this formula:
Rank #4
- ✅ Genuine Verizon SIM Card – Official, carrier-certified SIM for Verizon Wireless.
- 📡 5G + 4G LTE Ready – Supports the fastest Verizon data networks for reliable connectivity
- 🔒 NFC Enabled – Allows secure mobile payments and contactless pairing.
- 🔁 For New Activation or Replacement – Use for new devices or to replace a damaged SIM.
- 🔌 Nano Size (4FF) – Fits all modern smartphones (e.g., iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Pixel, etc.)
New base price + replacement perks + taxes and fees + lost discounts − value of benefits included today.
For example, a cheaper current tier can cost more after adding entertainment, travel or cloud options that were bundled into a legacy plan. Conversely, a legacy plan may remain worthwhile if its included services replace subscriptions you would otherwise pay for. Include the value of premium hotspot data, TravelPass days, network access and any account-specific discount—not just services used every week.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When keeping the legacy plan is sensible
- You use several included streaming or music services.
- You regularly need premium hotspot data.
- Monthly TravelPass days have meaningful value.
- Your family account has unusually favorable legacy pricing or discounts.
- No current tier reproduces the combination of benefits you rely on.
When switching may make sense
- You do not use the grandfathered perks.
- Data and hotspot usage are low.
- A current tier supplies enough premium data and network access for your household.
- You can add only the perks you actually want for less than the legacy bundle’s premium.
- You accept that legacy benefits, eligibility and possibly device-promotion access may not return after a change.
How to compare safely in My Verizon
- Open My Verizon and record the exact plan name for every phone line.
- Record each line’s base rate, Auto Pay discount, employer or affinity discount, device payment and account credits.
- List included streaming, TravelPass, Apple Music, hotspot, cloud-storage and premium-data benefits you use or value.
- Compare the complete account total with each current-plan configuration, including taxes and fees.
- Price replacement perks separately rather than assuming they are included.
- Check whether changing one line alters multi-line pricing, discounts or device-promotion eligibility.
- Save the plan summary and screenshots before confirming anything.
- Ask Verizon whether the exact legacy plan can be restored; do not assume it can.
Verizon directs customers to My Verizon for the bill, next-bill estimate, plan features and available changes.
How the increase appeared on the bill
Verizon said the first bill reflecting the adjustment could contain a partial charge labeled “Initial Plan Rate Adjustment”. If February service days had already been billed, a credit labeled “Plan rate adjustment credit” could also appear. The recurring higher plan charge is shown in the Plans section because mobile service is billed in advance.
Important account traps
- Similar names: Get More Unlimited and 5G Get More can have different hotspot, premium-data, streaming and cloud allowances.
- Mixed accounts: Legacy and current plans may coexist, but one-line changes can affect family pricing.
- Discount assumptions: Advertised current rates generally require Auto Pay and paper-free billing; taxes and fees are extra.
- Grandfathered perks: A legacy version of a service may have different eligibility or pricing from a newly added version.
- Device offers: Changing tiers can affect phone promotions, upgrades or trade-in terms.
- Coverage expectations: A plan tier is not a guarantee of better real-world coverage; location, device and usage matter.
The Bottom Line
Verizon’s increase was $4 per affected phone line beginning no sooner than March 1, 2024—not a new August 2026 hike. Keep a legacy plan if its bundled benefits and account discounts exceed that premium. Switch only after comparing the full bill, replacement perks and the risk of permanently losing grandfathered benefits.
