In the U.S., phone repairs are handled through selected Assurant-authorized T-Mobile Device Service Locations, generally after you file a Protection 360 claim. Your device model, damage, location and coverage determine whether it is repaired, replaced or declined.
What T-Mobile actually announced
On September 16, 2021, T-Mobile announced that approximately 500 U.S. stores would begin offering same-day device repairs on November 1, 2021, with additional locations planned. Assurant-authorized, industry-certified technicians were to perform the work using manufacturer-approved parts. The announcement positioned the service as a way for Protection 360 customers to avoid separate mall repair kiosks.
That announcement is historical, not a promise of a new 2026 rollout. T-Mobile’s current support guidance still routes covered customers through Assurant before they visit a qualifying location. Read T-Mobile’s 2021 announcement.
Not every T-Mobile store repairs phones
A T-Mobile retail store may sell phones and accessories without having repair capability. Repair service depends on whether that specific store is an Assurant-authorized Device Service Location, whether it handles your device and damage, and whether an appointment and parts are available.

Use T-Mobile’s store locator only after confirming the location is an eligible Device Service Location. Do not assume the nearest store can replace your screen while you wait.
Who can use the program?
The store-based repair benefit is primarily a protection-plan benefit. Protection 360 may cover accidental damage, cracked screens, liquid damage, loss, theft and mechanical or electrical failure after the manufacturer warranty expires, subject to plan terms. Eligible Apple devices may instead use AppleCare Services and be directed to Apple or an Apple-authorized provider.

Eligibility can vary by:
- Protection plan and enrollment status
- Device model and whether it appears on the current eligible-model list
- Damage type and severity
- Local repair capability and parts availability
- State or territory, including different arrangements in New York and Puerto Rico

How to get a T-Mobile/Assurant repair
- Check your coverage. Confirm that the damaged device has Protection 360 or another applicable protection program.
- File a claim before visiting a store. Start at mytmoclaim.com or call Assurant at 1-866-866-6285, as listed by T-Mobile support.
- Wait for the claim decision. Assurant determines whether the claim qualifies for repair, replacement or a service fee.
- Schedule the approved service. If repair is authorized, use the confirmation text or email to book an eligible Device Service Location.
- Prepare the phone. Back up data and follow the claim instructions for account verification, security locks and device handoff.
- Receive the outcome. A same-day repair may be available, but the device can instead require replacement or be declined after inspection.
T-Mobile’s support instructions specifically direct customers to make the Assurant claim first. Walking into an ordinary store without a claim may simply result in a referral.

What it costs
Do not treat one advertised price as universal. Costs depend on the device tier, damage, coverage, state terms and whether Assurant approves repair or replacement.

The 2021 announcement also described Protection 360 as starting at $7 plus tax per month at that time. That is not a safe current price. Check the plan and claim quote for your device and state at T-Mobile’s protection-plan page.

Why a cracked screen may not be repaired
A visible crack does not guarantee eligibility. During inspection, technicians may find bent frames, liquid intrusion, damaged cameras or biometric components, motherboard faults or other defects that prevent the phone from being restored to fully operational condition. In that situation, Assurant may require a replacement, charge the applicable service fee or deny the repair.
Liquid damage can be covered under Protection 360, but it is not the same as a manufacturer-warranty exchange. Standard warranties generally do not cover accidental cracks or liquid damage.

Does “same-day” mean while-you-wait service?
No. Same-day service was part of the 2021 launch description, but completion depends on appointment capacity, parts, technician capability, device model, damage severity and claim approval. A participating store may still need to order a part or route the phone for replacement.

Adding protection after a phone is already damaged generally does not turn that existing damage into a covered claim; enrollment and timing rules apply. For an uninsured phone, compare the repair quote with replacement or trade-in value.
Before you travel to a store
- Confirm the phone is enrolled and the claim is approved.
- Verify the exact model is eligible for the advertised screen or back-glass benefit.
- Confirm the address is a Device Service Location, not just a retail store.
- Ask whether the quoted amount is for repair or replacement and whether a deductible applies.
- Back up the device and follow Assurant’s instructions for security locks and account access.
- Expect state-specific terms in New York and Puerto Rico.
Bottom line
T-Mobile’s repair program is real but limited: selected U.S. stores provide Assurant-authorized service for qualifying protection claims. Start at mytmoclaim.com, obtain the claim decision, and schedule the confirmed Device Service Location before you travel. The nearest T-Mobile store, a cracked screen and the phrase “same-day repair” are not, by themselves, guarantees of service or price.
