You generally can’t change your PayPal date of birth through a normal profile setting. If it’s genuinely wrong, contact PayPal through its official support channels and follow its identity-verification instructions. If you opened the account before you were eligible, don’t change the birth year to get around the age requirement; ask PayPal how to resolve the account.
The rules depend on your country. For U.S. accounts, PayPal’s User Agreement, last updated January 26, 2026, says an individual must be a U.S. resident and at least 18 or the age of majority in their state of residence to open and use an account. Check the agreement for your region if you live elsewhere.
Can you change your PayPal age or date of birth?
PayPal’s reviewed public U.S. help material does not document a regular self-service control for editing a date of birth. PayPal treats date of birth as identity-verification information, so a genuine correction should go through PayPal Support rather than an invented or hidden profile menu.
PayPal does document a separate name-change process: on the web, sign in, go to Settings, select Change name, choose the applicable change type, and follow the instructions. That process is for name changes, not a workaround for changing your date of birth. See PayPal’s name-change instructions.

- Double check if the URL/website is genuine before entering card details online. Do not provide any gift card details (example: claim code) to someone you do not know or trust. There are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.

How to correct a genuinely wrong date of birth
- Sign in directly through PayPal’s official website or app; don’t use a link from an unsolicited message.
- Open Help or Contact and use the available support option, such as the Message Center or an account-verification contact route. Labels can vary by country, device, and account.
- Explain that the date of birth on the account is inaccurate and ask how to request a correction. If the account was opened while you were underage, say so.
- Ask which documents PayPal needs before uploading anything. Follow the specific request shown in your account or sent through PayPal’s official support channel.
- Submit only genuine documents through PayPal’s logged-in identity-verification or support flow.
- Monitor your account notifications and messages, and follow any further instructions from PayPal.
PayPal says identity confirmation may involve a government-issued photo ID, proof of address, and in some cases selfie-based verification. Documents are submitted through the Confirm Your Identity page or the notification/bell area. PayPal says it aims to review documents within two business days, but it may take longer. If you opened the account before you were old enough
Turning 18 does not establish that PayPal will automatically convert an account opened while its holder was underage. Contact PayPal, disclose when the account was opened, and ask what to do. PayPal may require the existing account to be closed and a new one opened once you are eligible, but the appropriate resolution depends on the account’s status and applicable regional rules.
- Do not change the birth year to make the account appear eligible.
- Do not submit a parent’s or another person’s identity document as though it were yours.
- Do not open a replacement account to evade a limitation, investigation, hold, negative balance, or verification check.
- If PayPal says a new account is appropriate, use your own accurate legal name, date of birth, email address, payment methods, and any required address or tax information.
PayPal’s U.S. agreement sets an eligibility age; it does not establish one universal process for every former underage account. Get account-specific instructions from PayPal before closing or replacing the account.
What documents might PayPal ask for?
Depending on the account and the verification request, PayPal may ask for a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, or government identity card, and proof of address. PayPal determines what it will accept for your case and country, so don’t assume that a school ID, birth certificate, or another document will be accepted.

- Use an unexpired document where applicable.
- Photograph or scan the complete document, with all four corners visible.
- Make sure the image is legible and free of glare, shadows, blur, or cropping.
- Do not cover or alter information requested for verification.
- Use PayPal’s own logged-in upload flow; don’t email documents to an unverified address or use an “age changer” service.
For certain limitation reviews, PayPal also says submitted documents should be clear, complete, and consistent with the account information. Its documentation guidance for removing an account limitation describes those requirements.
If PayPal has limited the account
Read the exact request in the Resolution Center or account notification and provide only the requested information. If the date of birth on the account is wrong, explain the mismatch to PayPal rather than sending contradictory documents without context. If the upload flow cannot resolve the error, contact support through the account.
PayPal says it may limit or suspend access when it cannot obtain or verify required identifying information; a limitation can also affect access to some features. See the U.S. User Agreement’s identity-information provisions. Creating another account is not a reliable fix for an active limitation.
Before closing an account with money in it
Don’t close an account impulsively if it has a balance or unresolved activity. Ask PayPal how to withdraw or transfer available funds and what will happen to any money subject to a hold. Check for pending payments, open disputes or claims, a negative balance, reserves, and incomplete or scheduled transactions.

PayPal’s U.S. agreement says users generally need to withdraw or transfer funds before closing. It also says closure may be unavailable while there is a pending transaction, open dispute or claim, negative balance, hold, limitation, or reserve; scheduled or incomplete transactions may be canceled. Obligations can remain after closure. Review the account-closure terms and get guidance from PayPal if funds or restrictions are involved.

There is no date-of-birth edit option
That is consistent with PayPal’s reviewed public help material. Contact support and request a correction instead of changing unrelated profile fields.
Verification fails because the account date is wrong
Tell PayPal about the mismatch and ask how to proceed before submitting further documents. Use the truthful identity of the account holder.
You don’t have government ID
Ask PayPal what alternatives, if any, it accepts for your country and account. Do not rely on a third party’s claim that a particular substitute will work.

You can’t sign in
Use PayPal’s official account-recovery or contact route. Don’t give your password, one-time codes, or identity documents to someone offering to unlock the account.
A parent or guardian created the account
Do not replace the account holder’s information with the parent’s identity. Ask PayPal how to resolve the account and, if needed, how the parent should manage any funds or transactions.
You need to correct the name too
A name correction is separate from a date-of-birth correction. Use PayPal’s documented name-change process for eligible name changes; PayPal says a name cannot be changed to another person’s name.
Why not use a fake date or an age-changing service?
A false birth date or someone else’s ID can make identity verification harder and may lead to account restrictions or loss of features. A website or person promising to change PayPal age instantly may be seeking login details, identity documents, or payment information. Use only PayPal’s own support and verification channels.
