StratGem-AI is a real accounting-technology venture associated with CPA Mike Kalansky. Its clearest public product claim is an AI-powered Technical Accounting Memoranda Module announced on June 11, 2024. The company says it filed a U.S. provisional patent application on May 30, 2024, but the public record does not establish a granted patent, broad customer adoption, independently tested accuracy, or an autonomous financial-reporting platform.
The sensible way to view StratGem-AI is as an emerging, specialist attempt to accelerate technical-accounting research and memo preparation while keeping professional accountants in control.
Who is Mike Kalansky?
StratGem-AI identifies Mike Kalansky as its founder. In a July 8, 2025 announcement, esVolta described Kalansky as a CPA with nearly 25 years of accounting and finance experience and announced him as its vice president of accounting. EsVolta said his background includes financial reporting, technical accounting, SEC reporting, investor relations, capital-markets matters and complex accounting in renewable-energy and infrastructure businesses. It also described responsibilities spanning accounting architecture, policy, risk management, strategic finance and U.S. GAAP application. Those statements come from the employer and company materials; they should not be treated as an independently audited résumé.
That practitioner background matters to the product thesis. Technical-accounting software has to handle contracts, accounting literature, review controls and audit scrutiny—not merely generate fluent text. Kalansky’s operating role at an infrastructure company suggests experience with the kinds of transactions the product is intended to address, although it does not by itself prove the software’s effectiveness.

What is StratGem-AI?
StratGem-AI presents itself as an AI-focused accounting and financial-reporting business combining software with accounting expertise and professional services. Its stated audience includes accounting firms, consulting companies, third-party administrators, fund accountants and companies handling complex reporting. The 2024 announcement also mentions CFO consulting and IPO-readiness support.
This positioning is narrower than a general-purpose chatbot and broader than basic bookkeeping. The specific public product claim concerns technical-accounting memoranda, while the company uses wider language about accounting-process automation and financial reporting. Public materials do not demonstrate an end-to-end system that autonomously closes books, prepares every disclosure or replaces controllers and auditors.
The technical-accounting problem it targets
A technical-accounting memorandum documents why a particular transaction receives a particular accounting treatment. A typical workflow looks like this:

- Accountants extract facts such as dates, amounts, rights, obligations, contingencies and termination provisions.
- They identify applicable accounting guidance and evaluate alternative treatments.
- They document the facts, analysis, conclusion and citations in a memorandum.
- Controllers, senior technical accountants, auditors or audit committees review the work before reporting is finalized.
The process is labor-intensive because a small contractual detail can change the answer. Documents may be incomplete, clauses may conflict, and standards can change. The value of automation is therefore not simply faster prose; it is faster evidence gathering and more consistent documentation without losing traceability.
What the Technical Accounting Memoranda Module reportedly does
According to the company’s June 2024 announcement, the module is intended to:
- scan and interpret transaction documents;
- use optical character recognition (OCR) to extract information from documents;
- apply natural-language processing and machine learning;
- provide guidance on accounting treatment;
- support the analysis-and-conclusion process;
- draw on a comprehensive accounting knowledge base; and
- adapt language, formatting and business context for a client.
The announcement describes these capabilities; it is not an independent product test. Public evidence located for this article does not establish the exact interface, supported file types, model provider, model architecture, retrieval method, automatic citation behavior, accuracy or hallucination rate. It also does not verify ERP, close-management, document-management or audit-platform integrations, security certifications, service-level commitments, implementation time, production availability or pricing.

Why this is a plausible—but high-risk—AI use case
Technical-accounting work contains patterns that software can assist with: large volumes of semi-structured documents, repeated extraction of clauses, recurring research questions, standardized memo sections and expensive senior-review time. A controlled knowledge base could help users locate relevant guidance and reuse institutional work.
The risks are equally important. Conclusions depend on precise facts, scope exceptions and authoritative literature. A plausible sentence can still be wrong, and an OCR error can flow into the analysis. A system may miss a side letter, rely on an outdated standard or cite commentary instead of authoritative guidance. AI can accelerate a wrong conclusion unless users confirm facts and sources.
AI in financial reporting is not one thing
Financial-reporting AI covers several distinct categories:

What could be innovative—and what is not proven
Combining document extraction, accounting knowledge and memo drafting in one workflow could reduce copying, speed a first pass and make formats more consistent. Those are reasonable potential benefits of the announced design, not measured outcomes.
The available announcement-style evidence does not establish benchmark accuracy, customer deployments, time savings, error rates, audit acceptance, implementation cost, integrations, security attestations, revenue or market leadership. Words such as “groundbreaking,” “transformative” and “pioneering” are promotional descriptions from the company, not independent findings.

A controlled implementation should preserve the original evidence and make the machine’s intermediate work visible. A practical review sequence is:
- Upload or ingest the original contracts, amendments and schedules.
- Have the system list extracted facts and identify missing documents.
- Require a qualified accountant to confirm or correct every material fact.
- Review source-linked analysis, alternatives and uncertainty flags.
- Escalate unusual transactions or judgment-heavy conclusions to a senior technical accountant and, when appropriate, the external auditor.
- Lock and retain the approved memorandum, source files, edits, approvals and version history.
- Reassess the conclusion when terms, facts or accounting standards change.
Examples that deserve extra scrutiny include renewal or termination options, multiple deliverables, embedded derivatives, amendments spread across files, poor-quality scans, conflicting master agreements and side letters, transactions spanning U.S. GAAP and IFRS, and conclusions affected by management intent. Sensitive financial, legal or personally identifiable information also requires explicit controls before it enters any external model.

Patent-pending does not mean patented
StratGem-AI says it filed a provisional U.S. patent application on May 30, 2024 and announced that filing on June 11, 2024. A provisional application can establish an early filing date and support “patent-pending” wording, but it is not a granted patent. It does not prove that the claims will survive examination, that the technology is novel in the legal sense or that the product works in production.
Readers can distinguish application records from granted patents through the USPTO Patent Public Search and check application-status information through USPTO Patent Center. No granted StratGem-AI patent is established by the public materials cited here.
Who might consider it?
- Accounting advisory and technical-accounting practices handling many memoranda.
- Fund administrators and third-party administrators processing recurring complex transactions.
- Private-equity, infrastructure and renewable-energy businesses with specialized contracts.
- Pre-IPO companies building documented U.S. GAAP policies and reporting processes.
- Finance teams seeking outsourced CFO, IPO-readiness or transaction-document support.
Its positioning appears poorly matched to a small business seeking inexpensive, plug-and-play bookkeeping or ordinary month-end close software. Public pricing and plan details were not located; an enterprise consultation, pilot or services-led engagement is a reasonable possibility, but that is an inference rather than a published commercial model.
Questions a buyer should ask before a pilot
- Which accounting literature is authoritative, how current is it, and are citations traceable to the controlling paragraph?
- Can users inspect and correct extracted dates, amounts, parties, options and clauses before analysis?
- Does the system show alternatives, rejected treatments, assumptions and missing facts?
- Are preparer, reviewer and approver roles, version history, exports and immutable audit logs supported?
- Is customer data used to train models? Where is it stored, encrypted, retained and deleted?
- Are SOC 2, ISO 27001 or equivalent assurances available?
- What U.S. GAAP and IFRS coverage is live rather than planned?
- What integrations, implementation services, support commitments and service levels are offered?
- Can the vendor provide customer references, accuracy evaluations and examples of auditor review?
- What are the pricing unit, renewal terms and costs for implementation and data migration?
How it fits beside other accounting technologies
StratGem-AI should be compared by workflow, not by the word “AI.” Technical-accounting research platforms emphasize literature, citations and memo documentation. Close platforms such as BlackLine, FloQast and Numeric focus on reconciliations, tasks and accounting operations. Workiva centers on connected reporting, SEC filings and governance. Contract-intelligence and extraction tools such as Trullion and DataSnipper may identify clauses or link evidence without making the final accounting conclusion.

Bottom line
StratGem-AI is a credible example of AI moving into a narrow, high-value accounting workflow, and Mike Kalansky’s CPA and financial-reporting background is relevant context for its design. The strongest verified claim is the company’s June 2024 announcement of an AI-powered technical-accounting memorandum module and a provisional patent filing. That is an interesting product direction—not evidence that financial reporting has been automated, that the technology is proven, or that professional judgment is no longer required.
