YouTube’s Shopee partnership connects product recommendations in creator videos with purchases on Shopee. Announced on September 18, 2024, it launched in Indonesia, with Thailand and Vietnam scheduled to follow; Sea later confirmed the collaboration had expanded to all three markets. It is an affiliate-shopping arrangement—not a YouTube-owned checkout or a Shopee partnership covering every country where YouTube Shopping is available.
What YouTube and Shopee launched
YouTube announced an expansion of its Shopping affiliate program to Indonesia with Shopee as the retailer partner. The program already operated in the United States and South Korea, according to YouTube’s September 18, 2024 announcement. YouTube said Thailand and Vietnam would follow in the coming weeks.
The arrangement links creator-led product discovery to Shopee’s marketplace. A creator can tag or link eligible Shopee products in supported YouTube content. Viewers follow the product link and complete the transaction on Shopee; the available evidence does not describe a universal YouTube checkout for these orders. Creators may earn affiliate commissions on qualifying purchases.
This is distinct from a creator’s connected merchandise store or a channel’s own products. YouTube Shopping can include products from connected stores as well as third-party affiliate offers; the Shopee collaboration is the retailer-affiliate case.

YouTube’s current program eligibility and country details are on its Shopping affiliate program Help page. A country being eligible for YouTube Shopping does not guarantee that a particular Shopee product, seller, or offer is available there.
What creators and viewers experience
For viewers
Products can appear as tagged recommendations in supported content. YouTube’s Indonesia announcement identified long-form videos, Shorts, and livestreams as formats where eligible creators could feature Shopee products. The broader Shopping feature set can also include product shelves, a channel store, and links in descriptions, though available surfaces vary by country, device, creator eligibility, and participating seller. Clicking a product takes the viewer to the retailer to review the listing and buy. Prices, stock, vouchers, shipping, and delivery estimates may change between a video’s publication and the viewer’s visit. Before ordering, check the seller’s ratings and reviews, return terms, warranty, and total delivered cost; a creator recommendation is not a guarantee of product quality or seller reliability.
For creators
Eligible creators can tag products and review shopping performance and earnings in YouTube Studio. The affiliate hub lets creators browse participating sellers and offers; rates may be shown for individual offers, and custom commission promotions appear only when available for that channel. YouTube does not publish one universal commission rate for the entire program.

To join, use this documented path:
- Sign in to the relevant channel in YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn from the left-hand menu.
- Under Programs, select Join Now for the Shopping affiliate program.
- Review and accept the program terms, then use the available product-tagging tools.
Eligibility is not automatic
YouTube’s current Help page says creators generally need to be in the YouTube Partner Program, meet the applicable subscriber threshold for YPP or the relevant pilot, and be based in an eligible country. Music channels, Official Artist Channels, and channels associated with music partners are excluded. Channels designated Made for Kids, or with a significant number of Made for Kids videos, are also ineligible. The current page refers to the applicable YPP threshold rather than stating a universal subscriber number; older documentation cited 10,000 subscribers, which should not be treated as a current rule for every creator.
Availability also differs by feature: the same Help page lists the Chrome extension in six markets—the United States, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam—rather than all 14 countries on the affiliate-program list.

What has happened since launch
- September 18, 2024: YouTube announced the Indonesia expansion and named Thailand and Vietnam as planned next markets.
- November 2024: Sea said clickable buttons let YouTube viewers buy Shopee items and confirmed the program had reached Thailand and Vietnam, in its third-quarter earnings-call transcript.
- March 2025: Sea reported that average daily orders attributed to YouTube content in Indonesia in January 2025 were more than six times the level at launch. Sea also described promising results in Thailand and Vietnam in its fourth-quarter and full-year 2024 transcript.
- March 2026: Sea said orders driven by YouTube content had more than tripled year over year in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to its fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 transcript.
These are Sea-reported management figures, not independently audited transaction statistics in the cited material. The sixfold comparison concerns Indonesia’s January 2025 average daily orders against the launch level; the later more-than-threefold figure compares YouTube-driven orders in Q4 2025 with Q4 2024.

YouTube: commerce as another creator revenue path
Affiliate product tagging turns recommendations in videos into a potential revenue source alongside advertising, memberships, sponsorships, and fan funding. Strategically, it gives viewers a route from product discovery to a retailer listing without requiring YouTube to run a regional marketplace. That is an interpretation of the click-through model: the retailer, rather than YouTube, handles the marketplace transaction.

Shopee: discovery beyond its own app
YouTube can bring creator audiences to Shopee listings from outside Shopee’s own app. Sea described the collaboration as part of its content ecosystem and said it attracted YouTube creators to Shopee’s ecosystem in its March 2025 earnings-call transcript. The order-growth disclosures show that Sea continued to track the channel after the announcement, although they do not reveal individual conversion rates or profitability.
Creators: a potential commission, not guaranteed income
The model may suit creators whose audiences want demonstrable products—such as beauty, fashion, technology, home, or lifestyle items—and whose viewers can purchase through the relevant local marketplace. But earnings depend on channel eligibility, audience geography, product availability, commission terms, clicks, conversion, cancellations, and returns. A displayed commission percentage is not the same as net earnings after refunds or other adjustments.
Creators should weigh the economics and audience fit before adding links:
- Check whether viewers are concentrated in a market where the tagged item can be bought and shipped.
- Match product language, currency, availability, and price to the audience rather than assuming one listing serves every country.
- Compare orders and net earnings—not just headline commission rates or clicks—and account for cancellations and returns where the reporting makes them visible.
- Keep recommendations credible; excessive product tagging can make editorial content feel like a catalog.
- Disclose affiliate relationships clearly, following the rules that apply in the relevant market and on the relevant content surface.
- Remember that creators generally do not control seller quality, inventory, delivery, returns, or customer service.
Common problems and practical checks
- The affiliate option or Shopping tab is missing: Check that the correct channel is selected and review its country, YPP status, subscriber eligibility, and content category. A managed content owner may need to accept the agreement.
- A product cannot be tagged: It may not be in the participating seller catalog, available in the creator’s market, or eligible under tagging rules.
- No special commission is displayed: Custom commission promotions are shown only when available for that channel. Their absence alone does not establish that the program is malfunctioning.
- Clicks do not turn into orders: Product fit, shipping cost, seller reputation, stock, price changes, and checkout friction can all affect conversion.
- A link behaves differently for viewers in another country: Listings and shopping behavior may be market-specific; do not assume a link that works for one country will work the same way elsewhere.
YouTube’s current affiliate-program Help page is the reference for eligibility and program details. For buyers, the product listing on the local Shopee marketplace is the place to verify current price, availability, seller terms, and delivery information.
