Bettergoods is Walmart’s food private brand, launched in April 2024 with 300 items across grocery categories. Walmart positioned it around distinctive flavors, plant-based choices and products for particular dietary lifestyles. Its selection and prices change, so compare the current package, unit price and local availability rather than assuming every item fits a diet or remains under the original launch price range.
What is Walmart Bettergoods?
Walmart introduced Bettergoods on April 30, 2024, calling it the company’s largest private-brand food launch in 20 years. The initial lineup contained 300 items. Walmart said many were unique to the retailer and described its product-development team as collaborating with suppliers around the world; those are Walmart’s descriptions, not independent evidence that the products outperform competing brands. What products are in the Bettergoods lineup?
The launch included frozen foods, dairy, snacks, beverages, pasta, soups, coffee and chocolate, among other categories. Walmart described three broad product pillars:
- Culinary experiences: foods with distinctive flavors or preparations.
- Plant-based options: products intended for shoppers seeking plant-based alternatives.
- Dietary-lifestyle products: selections such as gluten-free items or foods made without specified ingredients.
The live catalog is broader and can change. When accessed for this article, Walmart listed frozen, snacks, pantry, dairy and dairy alternatives, beverages and coffee, candy, and bread. Featured subcategories included plant-based milks, pizza, sparkling water, frozen appetizers, breads and spreads, chips and salsa, seasonings and condiments, and ice cream. Check the Bettergoods catalog for what is currently listed; availability and assortment may vary by location and date.

Is Bettergoods affordable?
At launch in 2024, Walmart said Bettergoods prices ranged from under $2 to under $15, with most items under $5. Walmart also said at a 2025 investor meeting that 70% of Bettergoods items were under $5. These are separate company statements from different dates—not a guarantee that every product is currently below $5 or that every store has the same price.
A snapshot of Walmart’s catalog showed why it is worth checking individual items: Italian Wood-Fired Margherita Pizza, 14.6 oz, was listed at $6.92; Bronze Cut Fusilli Bucati Pasta No. 4103, 16 oz, at $2.14; and Slow Cooked Creamy Hatch Chile and Sweet Corn Chowder, 24 oz, at $3.72. These are displayed prices from a changing catalog, not a price survey or a promise of current local pricing. Check Walmart’s current Bettergoods listings before budgeting for a specific item.

For a useful comparison, look at unit price as well as sticker price, and weigh package size, preparation convenience and the flavor or format you want. A lower price per package may not mean better value if the portion or usable quantity differs.
Is Bettergoods plant-based or gluten-free?
Some Bettergoods products are marketed for plant-based or other dietary preferences, but the brand as a whole is not one diet category. Do not infer that a particular item is vegan, gluten-free, allergen-safe or suitable for a medical diet from the Bettergoods name or a broad category description.

Read the current package’s ingredient list, allergen statement and any relevant dietary labeling for the exact product. Formulas and packaging can change, and a brand-level description does not establish suitability for an individual’s needs.
Has Walmart removed artificial dyes from Bettergoods?
Not necessarily from every package yet. On October 1, 2025, Walmart announced a phased effort to eliminate synthetic dyes and additional ingredients from its U.S. private-brand food products, explicitly including Bettergoods. The company said rollout would occur over the following months, with longer-lead changes planned to finish by January 2027 at the latest. Walmart updated its announcement on November 12, 2025, to revise an ingredient-list detail. That commitment does not establish that a product is free of all additives, healthier, or safe for someone with an allergy. For the ingredients in a specific item, rely on its current package rather than the overall announcement.

Walmart’s launch and catalog describe the assortment, but they do not establish how a product tastes or compare its nutrition with another item. A product-by-product choice therefore comes down to the current label, price, format and your own preferences.
