These recommendations draw on Travel + Leisure’s 2026 testing of 50 money belts during real travel. Editors loaded the belts with dummy passports, cards, cash, phones, keys, sunglasses and earbuds, then assessed construction, comfort, closures, zippers, organization, RFID slots and water or sweat resistance. The team said it would continue six months of real-world use, so impressions remain product testing observations—not a guarantee that any belt prevents theft.

A general rule applies across the list: slimmer belts disappear more easily but carry less. Multi-pocket waist wallets function more like hands-free bags, yet their contents are more likely to create a visible outline.
1. Raytix RFID Money Belt: best overall

The compromise is concealment: filling all five pockets can make the belt visible beneath fitted clothing. Travel + Leisure reported that it remained secure and looked good after six months of long runs and regular use, but that observation should not be read as a theft-prevention guarantee.
2. Travelon RFID Travel Wallet: best organization
Travelon’s five-pocket arrangement is practical when you want each item assigned a place: two zippered compartments handle valuables and three mesh pouches keep smaller items visible. Its polyester body and soft, stretchy waistband stayed in place during walking, sitting and bending in testing, and the zippers operated smoothly.
The thicker waistband is less comfortable in hot, humid conditions because it can hold sweat. Packing a phone, passport and other bulky items also makes the wallet easier to see under a shirt.

3. StashBandz Unisex Travel Money Belt: easiest to conceal
StashBandz uses a water-resistant spandex compression band with four pockets. Testers described it as undetectable under a T-shirt and suitable for workouts, making it the strongest choice when a low profile matters more than maximum storage.

It is not adjustable and runs small. Check the manufacturer’s sizing carefully; sizing up is sensible if you are between sizes. The band can roll upward while sitting, which may require repositioning during a long journey.
4. Fitgriff Running Belt: best for active travelers
Fitgriff is the fitness-oriented option here. It is appropriate for a phone, cards, keys and similarly small essentials while walking or running. Treat it as a running belt rather than a passport wallet: travelers carrying a passport, substantial cash or several accessories should choose one of the larger waist-wallet designs.

5. Pacsafe Coversafe X100: best water-resistant option
The Coversafe X100 is a hidden waist wallet that Travel + Leisure reports passing its water test. Pacsafe describes it as RFID-blocking and equips it with a slash-resistant strap, useful features for travelers who prioritize a concealed design with added physical security.
RFID blocking addresses unauthorized radio reading of compatible cards; it does not stop pickpocketing, lost belongings or every form of fraud. No independent percentage or laboratory performance result was established for these belts, so regard RFID as one layer of risk reduction rather than a security guarantee.
6. Lanney RFID Travel Blocking Money Belt: best large capacity
Lanney is built for travelers who need to carry more than a passport and one card. It has five pockets, a passport-sized mesh compartment, card organization and a front zippered pocket, and it comes with 10 RFID card holders. The tested strap is stated to fit 24- to 50-inch waists.

Travel + Leisure reported that the contents stayed dry in a water-bottle sweat test. The additional fabric and storage make Lanney more useful as a small hands-free bag, but a fully loaded belt is correspondingly harder to hide under light clothing.

Yoder looks like a conventional belt and uses USA-tanned English bridle leather with a concealed rear zipper pocket. In testing, the pocket held nine tri-folded bills, making it suitable for emergency cash while preserving an ordinary appearance.
Leather adds weight, the belt is sold in individual sizes rather than a broad adjustable range, and accessing cash is less discreet than opening a waist pouch. Measure your waist carefully before ordering.

How to choose the right money belt
Match capacity to what you will actually carry
- Passport and phone: choose a large compartment such as Raytix or Lanney.
- Cards, cash and documents: a multi-pocket design such as Travelon keeps categories separated.
- Phone, keys and one card: Fitgriff is less bulky for active use.
- Emergency cash only: Yoder’s hidden belt pocket avoids carrying a separate pouch.
Prioritize concealment over storage
Compression and slim designs sit flatter, especially under a T-shirt. Avoid overfilling any belt: a noticeable rectangular outline can advertise valuables even when the belt itself is hidden. Larger wallets are easier to organize but should be worn beneath loose, opaque clothing.
Check fit and adjustability
Measure around your waist at the navel and compare that measurement with the product’s size chart. This is particularly important for StashBandz, which is not adjustable, and Yoder, which comes in individual sizes. Lanney’s tested strap is stated to cover 24–50 inches.
Understand water and security claims
Water-resistant fabric helps with sweat and light exposure; it is not the same as waterproof submersion protection. RFID blocking can reduce unauthorized scans of compatible cards, while Pacsafe’s slash-resistant strap is a physical anti-cut feature. Neither feature guarantees that valuables cannot be stolen.
Can you wear a money belt through airport security?
No. Remove the money belt before airport security screening and place it in the screening bin as directed. Put it back on after you clear the checkpoint. Wearing a bulky belt over clothing can also attract attention, so concealed, lightly packed designs are preferable in terminals.
What the testing does—and does not—show
Travel + Leisure’s editors tested 50 money belts in real travel conditions, loading them with representative travel items and examining construction, closure hardware, zipper operation, comfort, organization, RFID slots and resistance to water or sweat. The findings identify practical trade-offs among these seven models. They do not establish an independent theft rate, an RFID-blocking percentage or a guarantee of long-term durability for every product.
