Amazon previously offered an Archive Order option, but that feature may no longer be available to some Amazon.com customers. Even when archiving works, it only moves an order out of the default view—it does not erase Amazon’s transaction records.
If your goal is household privacy, the most dependable solution is to stop sharing one login: use separate adult sign-ins through Amazon Family, secure the account, and separately manage browsing history and Alexa shopping notifications.
Delete, hide, or erase: these are different things
“Amazon history” can mean several different records. Changing one does not automatically change the others.

Can you permanently delete an individual Amazon order?
Usually, no. Amazon does not offer a normal customer-facing control for permanently deleting an individual completed order from Your Orders. An Amazon staff response also stated that orders could not be deleted and that archived orders could only be unarchived or replaced by archiving another order.

This limitation is practical as well as technical. Order records can be relevant to returns, refunds, warranties, payment disputes, tax and reimbursement records, fraud prevention, seller and fulfillment operations, and access to digital content. Removing an order from a visible list would not necessarily remove the underlying transaction record.
That is why claims promising to “delete Amazon order history in three steps” are usually describing an older archive feature, not permanent deletion.
What happened to Amazon’s Archive Order feature?
Amazon historically allowed some customers to select Archive order from a desktop version of Your Orders. Older Amazon guidance explained that archiving removed an order from the default order-history view, while leaving it available through archived-order views or search. It could also be restored.
However, Amazon’s own guidance is now inconsistent. An Amazon staff response dated May 2, 2025 said customers could no longer archive orders and recommended Amazon Family for separate order histories. At the same time, some Amazon-owned pages still describe archived orders, including an official UK help page.
The safest conclusion for Amazon.com customers is: the Archive Order option may have been removed from your account or marketplace. Check your account, but do not treat the feature as guaranteed or as a deletion method.
How to check whether Archive order is available
This is a conditional account check, not a universal 2026 procedure:
- Sign in to Amazon using a desktop web browser.
- Open Your Orders.
- Find the relevant order.
- Look for an Archive order control or an equivalent order menu.
If the control is missing, you may not have overlooked it. Amazon staff has said that new archiving may no longer be available. The interface can also differ between Amazon.com and other marketplaces, account types, order types, and current versions of Amazon’s website or app.

Older instructions often say that archiving is available only on desktop, not in the mobile app. Because the feature itself may have been withdrawn, treat that advice as historical rather than a promise about the current app.

If you archived an order, is it really hidden?
Not completely. Archived orders were designed to leave the main order list, but they were not erased. They could still be found through an archived-orders area or search, and an account holder could restore them. Anyone with sufficient access to the account might therefore still be able to find them.
Do not archive an order if you need permanent removal. It is only a visibility and organization feature, where available.
The most reliable way to protect purchases from household members
If a spouse, family member, child, or housemate uses the same Amazon login, the account itself is the privacy problem. The better long-term arrangement is for each adult to use separate credentials through Amazon Family or the equivalent Household settings available in your marketplace.
- Open Amazon’s Family or Household settings while signed in.
- Invite or link the other adult.
- Have each adult sign in with their own Amazon credentials.
- Stop using one shared primary password for private purchases.
Amazon describes adult orders as private from other adults in the household when each person uses their own sign-in. This can prevent future purchases from automatically appearing in another adult’s order history, while selected benefits may still be shared.
Amazon Family is not a historical cleanup tool. It does not remove old orders already connected to the original account, and digital-content or benefit-sharing rules can vary by marketplace and account configuration.
Secure the account if someone else knows the password
If you are concerned that another person can view or change the account, take security steps immediately:

- Change the Amazon password to a unique password.
- Enable two-step verification.
- Review unfamiliar devices, sessions, addresses, payment methods, and recent account changes.
- Remove saved payment methods if the account may be compromised.
- Do not share the primary Amazon password.
- Use separate adult accounts rather than relying on a shared login.
These actions protect the account going forward; they do not delete existing orders.
Stop Alexa from announcing shopping activity
If the concern is an Echo device revealing a gift or delivery aloud, Amazon-owned guidance gives this path in the Alexa app:

Turn off the relevant shopping notifications. Menu names can vary by country, device, and Alexa app version. This controls spoken or device notifications only. It does not remove an order from Your Orders.

Deleting browsing history will not delete orders
Amazon’s browsing history records products you viewed. Buy Again and recommendations may also reflect account activity and previous purchases. Those are separate from the completed and canceled orders listed under Your Orders.

Digital purchases such as Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, apps, and games may also have separate libraries, licenses, or account records. Do not assume that changing retail order history changes those records.
Can a privacy request erase Amazon purchase records?
A privacy or data request is different from hiding an order in the website interface. If your concern is the personal data Amazon retains—not merely what another household member can see—review the privacy information and request options available for your marketplace.
You may be able to request access to, correction of, or management of personal information. Whether deletion is available depends on your country, the type of data, applicable law, and retention exceptions. A privacy request does not guarantee that an order will disappear from Your Orders, nor is it a shortcut for deleting a transaction record.
Closing your Amazon account: the last resort
Closing the entire account is the broadest account-level action, but it is destructive and should not be used merely to hide one purchase. Amazon’s account-closure guidance warns that you can lose access to:
- Order history and invoices.
- Proof-of-purchase documents.
- Returns and warranty information.
- Digital purchases and related libraries.
- Gift-card balances and other account-linked records.
- Other Amazon services using the same credentials, potentially across marketplaces.
Before starting closure, save invoices, warranty documents, return information, tax records, digital-purchase details, gift-card information, and seller or business-account documents you may need later. Amazon’s guidance is available at its account-closure help page.
Account closure should not be understood as a guarantee that every underlying record is immediately erased. Amazon may retain information where required or permitted for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, dispute-resolution, or operational purposes. The exact consequences depend on the marketplace and applicable privacy policy.

- Do not manipulate hidden URLs, run scripts, or use browser hacks as though they were official Amazon controls.
- Do not give Amazon credentials to an extension or app claiming to erase server-side order records.
- Do not assume customer service can permanently delete a completed order. Support can explain account-specific options, but there is no dependable reason to expect an exception.
