It retired the old Microsoft Rewards app on Xbox as an offers platform, stopped publishing offers there in April 2024, and ended the app’s Weekly Set and Weekly Streak on April 15, 2024. Rewards activity moved toward a consolidated Rewards Hub across Xbox, PC, and mobile.
That distinction matters: the old streak routine and its progress ended, but existing Rewards balances were not presented as deleted. Microsoft later introduced different weekly streak mechanics through Game Pass Quests.
What Microsoft discontinued
The change affected the dedicated Microsoft Rewards app on Xbox consoles. Microsoft’s transition notice said Rewards had “a new home” in the Rewards Hub and that offers would stop appearing in the old console app beginning in April 2024. The notice specifically set April 15, 2024 as the end of the old Weekly Set and Weekly Streak.
This was not the closure of the broader Microsoft Rewards program. Microsoft accounts, the wider Rewards dashboard, point redemption, and other earning methods continued.

The change was first reported by Windows Central after users began seeing transition notices. Some users reportedly saw an earlier notice in December 2023, but the later communication identified April 15, 2024 as the relevant end date for the old weekly features.
What were the Weekly Set and Weekly Streak?
The Weekly Set was a recurring group of Microsoft Rewards activities inside the old Xbox app. Completing the required activities from week to week built a Weekly Streak, rewarding users who maintained the routine over consecutive weeks.
Missing a required week could break the streak. For long-term users, the practical loss was therefore more than a changed menu: the familiar weekly workflow disappeared, along with the old streak structure and its accumulated history.
Point values were not universal. They varied according to market, account status, and changing program rules, so there is no reliable worldwide figure for how many points every user lost when the system ended.

What users lost—and what they did not
| Changed or ended | Continued separately |
|---|---|
| The old Xbox Rewards app’s recurring offers | The broader Microsoft Rewards program |
| The old Weekly Set | Existing Rewards points associated with a Microsoft account |
| The old Weekly Streak and its progress | Other earning activities and redemption options, subject to program rules |
Microsoft’s later Xbox materials said the changes did not affect existing Rewards and points previously earned. Microsoft Support likewise explains that points remain connected to the user’s Microsoft account and can be managed through the Rewards dashboard, subject to applicable terms.
That does not mean old Weekly Set progress transferred. The retirement of the feature and the status of a user’s point balance were separate issues.
Where Xbox Rewards moved
The replacement experience was the Rewards Hub, intended as a unified place to view activities, set a goal, track progress, redeem rewards, and complete gaming-related tasks.
By January 2025, Microsoft described the Rewards Hub as available through:

If the former app is missing, sign in with the Microsoft account used for Rewards and look for the current Rewards Hub or open the Xbox Rewards page. The Microsoft Rewards website remains useful for checking an account-wide balance and redemption options.
Did weekly streaks disappear permanently?
No—but the later streaks are not the old Weekly Streak.
On January 6, 2025, Microsoft announced new Game Pass Quests features that included weekly streak mechanics for eligible members. The announcement described a system based on playing for at least five days in a week, with larger multipliers for maintaining streaks over multiple weeks.
This later system differs from the retired Weekly Set:

- It is tied to Game Pass gameplay quests and eligibility rules.
- It uses different tasks and thresholds.
- Point values and benefits can vary by market and subscription tier.
- It does not restore the old console app or transfer its historical streak.
Microsoft’s January 2025 description also said qualifying play focused on games in the Game Pass catalog, with certain PC games using third-party launchers, including Battle.net, excluded from that description. Whether a particular quest appears depends on the current offer and the user’s account.
For the announcement of the newer system, see Microsoft’s Xbox Wire explanation of Game Pass Quests.
Who was affected most?
- Casual Xbox users: They lost a convenient collection of recurring console activities but could continue using Microsoft Rewards through the hub and website.
- Dedicated streak users: They lost the old Weekly Set, the old streak structure, and the familiar routine they had maintained for months or years.
- Game Pass members: They may qualify for later gameplay quests and weekly streaks, but those features are not identical to the old system.
- Users outside the United States: They should not assume that U.S. offers, point values, or quest availability apply in their market.
- Users under 18: Microsoft’s January 2025 announcement limited gameplay-based Rewards access through the hub to players aged 18 and older, while some non-gameplay methods remained available.
Why a quest, balance, or streak may be missing
A missing activity does not necessarily mean that Microsoft Rewards has been closed or that an account is broken. Common explanations include:
- the user is looking for the retired Xbox app;
- the offer is limited to a particular country or region;
- the activity is account-specific or time-limited;
- the account does not meet an age or Game Pass eligibility requirement;
- gameplay has not met the qualifying time or catalog requirement; or
- the user is signed into a different Microsoft account.
Microsoft also warns that VPN use, region switching, or appearing to earn from outside the account’s current market can interfere with earning or redemption. Streaks can reset when activities are completed late, when a user changes time zones, uses a VPN, or signs into another account. See Microsoft Rewards Support for current account and eligibility guidance.

What to do if your points appear incorrect
- Sign in to the Microsoft account historically used for Rewards.
- Open the current Rewards Hub or Microsoft Rewards dashboard.
- Check the account’s market, age eligibility, and applicable Game Pass plan.
- Review the activity’s qualifying requirements rather than assuming all gameplay counts.
- Do not use a VPN or switch regions to seek another market’s offers.
- Contact Microsoft Rewards Support if the balance or redemption history appears inconsistent.
Current status
As of August 18, 2026: the old Xbox-console Rewards app and its April 15, 2024 Weekly Set and Weekly Streak are gone. Rewards with Xbox continues through the Rewards Hub. Microsoft’s current Xbox Rewards page describes earning through gameplay, Bing searches, and eligible Microsoft Store purchases, with quests and benefits varying by market, Rewards level, age, and Game Pass plan.
The current page says Rewards members aged 18 and older can complete daily, weekly, and monthly quests, while Game Pass Premium and Ultimate members may receive exclusive quests, including monthly packs and weekly streaks. These are live-program details and can change, so the current page—not the 2024 app—should be treated as the authoritative source for availability and values.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Microsoft Rewards shutting down?
No. Microsoft retired the old Xbox-console Rewards app as an offers platform, but the broader Microsoft Rewards program continues through the Rewards Hub and related Microsoft dashboards.
Did Xbox delete my Rewards points?
The app retirement was not presented as a deletion of existing point balances. However, the old Weekly Set and Weekly Streak progress did not continue as an ongoing feature.
Do I need Game Pass to use Microsoft Rewards?
Not for the broader Microsoft Rewards program. Some newer gameplay quests and weekly streak benefits are tied to eligible Game Pass memberships and can vary by tier and market.
Are Xbox Rewards available in every country?
Availability, activities, point values, and redemption options vary by market. Do not assume that an offer shown in the United States is available elsewhere.
Can children use Xbox gameplay Rewards?
Microsoft’s January 2025 announcement limited gameplay-based Rewards access through the Rewards Hub to players aged 18 and older. Other Rewards activities may have different rules.
