Samsung said Foundry earnings improved and set a double-digit revenue-growth target for the second half, but it did not report a separate Foundry revenue figure in its results release. TSMC, meanwhile, reported 54.6% year-over-year growth in September company-wide revenue. That points to stronger recent growth at TSMC, but it is not a like-for-like comparison of foundry segments.
Why is Samsung making record profits?
Samsung Electronics reported consolidated revenue of KRW 171.5 trillion and operating profit of KRW 89.5 trillion for Q2 2026, announced July 30. Its Memory Business achieved all-time highs in quarterly revenue and operating profit. Samsung attributed the record to AI demand, a focus on server products, constrained capacity and higher industry prices. Samsung’s Q2 2026 results release does not give the Memory Business’s separate profit amount in the figures summarized here.
The distinction matters: KRW 89.5 trillion is Samsung’s company-wide operating profit, not Memory’s contribution alone. The release establishes that Memory set segment records, but it does not allow readers to calculate what share of consolidated profit came from memory chips.
Is Samsung Foundry catching up with TSMC?
The available figures do not establish that Samsung Foundry is catching up. Samsung said Foundry earnings improved significantly before incentive-related provisions, citing demand for HBM base dies and strong orders from U.S. customers. It also targeted double-digit Foundry revenue growth in H2 2026. That is a management target, not a reported result. The cited Samsung release provides no separate Foundry revenue or operating-profit amount, so it cannot confirm the segment’s profitability or quantify its growth against TSMC.

TSMC’s latest monthly report available by October 9 showed September 2026 consolidated revenue of NT$511.86 billion, up 54.6% year over year and down 0.6% month over month. Revenue for January through September was NT$3,898.73 billion, up 41.1% year over year. These are company-wide sales figures—not foundry-segment growth rates matched to Samsung’s H2 target. They are a stronger recent growth signal for TSMC overall, but not proof of a precise foundry-versus-foundry growth gap. TSMC’s September 2026 revenue report.
What do the latest quarterly results show?
For the latest completed quarter reported by both companies, the available figures compare whole companies, not Samsung Memory or Foundry against TSMC’s foundry business. Samsung reported Q2 consolidated revenue and operating profit; TSMC reported Q2 revenue and operating margin. The amounts also use different currencies and should not be compared as if they were segment figures.

How much of Samsung’s profit comes from memory chips?
The cited Q2 release does not state a separate Memory operating-profit figure or its share of Samsung’s KRW 89.5 trillion consolidated operating profit. It does establish that Memory reached all-time highs in both quarterly revenue and operating profit and was central to Samsung’s record-profit story. A precise percentage or amount attributable to memory cannot be calculated from the disclosed figures cited here.

How fast is TSMC growing?
TSMC’s September company-wide revenue was up 54.6% year over year, while its January–September total was up 41.1%. The September figure declined 0.6% from August, so the year-over-year growth rate should not be mistaken for month-to-month growth. TSMC had also guided for Q3 revenue of US$44.6–45.8 billion after reporting US$40.20 billion for Q2; that range was guidance, not a finalized Q3 result. Monthly revenue report and Q2 quarterly results.
When will finalized Q3 results be available?
As of October 9, 2026, neither company had finalized Q3 results available. TSMC’s Q3 results conference was scheduled for October 15, and Samsung’s Q3 earnings call was scheduled for October 29. Until those disclosures, Samsung’s Q3 figures are guidance and TSMC’s Q3 revenue range remains guidance. Samsung’s results calendar and TSMC’s Q3 results schedule.
