What happened in Reading FC’s takeover?
Reading FC announced on 3 May 2025 that it had agreed a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the transaction included both the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground. Reading FC’s announcement describes the proposed sale at that stage; an agreement in principle is not the same as a completed takeover.
Subsequent reporting said the deal was completed. The BBC reported that Rob Couhig completed the takeover, while Sky Sports reported final EFL clearance and said Couhig and Todd Trosclair would join the club’s board.
What is the “takeover twist” and who reacted?
The available reporting does not establish what the headline’s “twist” refers to, when it occurred, or which Sky Sports pundit reacted. It therefore cannot support a claim that the 2025 completion or EFL clearance was that twist. Nor does it verify a quotation or reaction from a named pundit.

A Sky Sports feature describes Joe Jacobson as Reading co-CEO and a regular EFL pundit, but it does not connect him to the unidentified reaction. That profile is not evidence that Jacobson is the person meant by the headline.
Why the takeover mattered to Reading
The change of ownership followed a difficult period for the club. The BBC reported that Reading had 18 points deducted during Yongge ownership and dropped to the third tier. That figure is the BBC’s account of deductions across that ownership period, not a deduction imposed as part of the Redwood deal. BBC Sport’s takeover report provides that context.
Earlier, on 7 October 2024, Reading said it was subject to a formal EFL registration embargo and operating under a business plan. That statement records the club’s position at that time; it does not establish the club’s current status. Reading FC’s October 2024 statement is the source for that dated information.
