There is no reliable, like-for-like public ranking of the personal wealth of all 24 owners of 2026–27 EFL Championship clubs. A recent list gives estimates for only part of the division, and those figures come from different years and publishers. The numbers below are the estimates that can be attributed, not a complete ranking or a measure of how much each owner can spend on a club.
Why there is no complete 24-owner ranking
The 2026–27 Championship has 24 clubs, but its membership differs from the previous season: Lincoln City, Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers came up; Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City moved up; Leicester City moved down. Older owner lists should not be treated as a current register without checking the season. See the 2026–27 Championship season overview.
A Football League World article says it assesses all 24 clubs, but the accessible copy provides only a partial list, ending with Middlesbrough. It is not sound to fill the missing entries using older lists, guesses or the wealth of investment firms. The figures that are available also mix individuals and families, different reference years and different publishers.
Published estimates available for Championship owners
These are the estimates reported in the accessible Football League World list, reproduced by Apex Football Lite. They are not consistently dated or calculated, so the figures should not be read as a comparable league table.

#1 Best Overall
| Club | Owner or ownership group named | Reported estimate | Attribution and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Birmingham City | Tom Wagner | About £1.34 billion | Attributed to BirminghamLive; the article distinguishes Wagner’s wealth from the much larger assets managed by Knighthead for investors. |
| Blackburn Rovers | The Rao family | About £1.66 billion | Attributed to a Sunderland Echo estimate from 2023; this is a dated estimate. |
| Bristol City | Steve Lansdown | £1.25 billion | Attributed to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List; Lansdown co-founded Hargreaves Lansdown. |
| Burnley | Alan Pace | £190 million used in the list | The article notes other published estimates range from £190 million to £270 million; it reports that club accounts identify Pace as controlling party. |
| Cardiff City | Vincent Tan | About £689 million | Attributed to Forbes in 2026. |
| Derby County | David Clowes and family | £385 million | Attributed to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List. |
| Lincoln City | Ron Fowler | Estimated £366 million | The article describes Fowler’s group as controlling, despite another holding having a larger stake. |
| Middlesbrough | Steve Gibson | £640 million | Attributed to the 2024 Sunday Times Rich List. |

What these wealth estimates do—and do not—measure
Net worth estimates are not club budgets. Personal or family wealth does not tell you how much has been invested in a club, how much an owner is willing to spend, or what resources are available to the team. The Football League World article states: “Company assets under management have not been treated as an owner’s personal wealth, while N/A has been used when no sensible or reliable figure is available.”
Rank #2
- Personal wealth: an estimate of an individual’s or family’s assets less liabilities, subject to the publisher’s methods and date.
- Assets under management: money managed for clients or investors; it is not automatically the manager’s personal fortune. This distinction matters for Birmingham City and Knighthead.
- Club resources: funds actually committed or made available to a club, which cannot be inferred from a net-worth headline.
- Shared or layered ownership: a single person’s estimate may not describe the finances or control of an entire consortium.
The estimates also have different reference dates: Blackburn’s cited figure is from 2023, Gibson’s from 2024, and Lansdown’s and Clowes’s from 2026. A newer publication date does not make every entry current or comparable.

The accessible list specifically cautions against reducing Bolton Wanderers’ wider Football Ventures ownership to one person’s wealth; it provides no combined valuation for that group. It also gives no estimate for a controlling member of Charlton Athletic’s ownership group. Those are unresolved figures, not zeroes. The partial accessible list does not establish reliable estimates for the other clubs it omits.

Another 2026 list, from FourFourTwo, says it uses publicly available figures and Forbes valuations where possible, while acknowledging possible omissions. Its inclusion rule—at least a 25% club stake or another active role—means it is not necessarily a full register of Championship owners. A list with a different scope cannot by itself complete the missing entries.
Quick Recap
How to read any Championship owner wealth ranking
- Check that it covers the clubs in the relevant season, rather than a previous Championship lineup.
- Check whether each number refers to an individual, a family, or a wider ownership group.
- Keep the publisher and estimate year attached to every figure; do not treat different years as a single current snapshot.
- Do not substitute a club valuation, announced funding or an investment company’s assets under management for personal net worth.
- Use “not reliably published” when no sound estimate is available; an unavailable figure should not be ranked as zero.
