There is no reliable, like-for-like price list establishing the nine most expensive adventure sports experiences in the world. Published prices do show that a guided Everest climb can cost tens of thousands of dollars, while historical estimates for space tourism run from hundreds of thousands of dollars to tens of millions. Those figures describe different trips, years and levels of service—not a current ranking.
How much does an Everest expedition cost?
Published operator prices for Everest vary with route, trip length and support. The figures below are specific listings, not a market-wide price range. They also differ in currency and package details, so they should not be treated as direct equivalents.
| Operator and listing | Published price | Duration and stated details |
|---|---|---|
| Adventure Consultants, 2027 departures; listing dated 2026 | USD $83,000 for the classic expedition; USD $95,000 for the fast-track expedition | 52 days for the classic option; 30 days for fast-track. |
| Adventure Consultants, 2027 Everest-Lhotse options; listing dated 2026 | USD $102,500 for the 52-day option; USD $114,500 for the 30-day option | Combined Everest-Lhotse options; route and duration differ from the Everest-only departures. |
| Seven Summit Treks, 2026 premium package; PDF published in 2025 | USD $130,000 per person | 50-day South Col/Southeast Ridge expedition. The package description includes one UIAGM guide and two Sherpa guides, more oxygen, a Lobuche preparation climb, private services and helicopter elements. Confirm exact inclusions and availability with the operator. |
| Adventure Peaks, 2027 South Col departure; current listing | From GBP £42,000; a separate flight-inclusive price is shown | The operator says flight prices are estimates and delays may create extra costs. The listed starting price and flight-inclusive price should not be assumed to cover identical items. |
These prices answer “how much does an Everest expedition cost?” only in the context of the named operator and departure. A higher package price may reflect a different itinerary or support level, rather than a like-for-like premium for the same climb. Before comparing offers, ask each operator for a written breakdown of route, duration, staffing, oxygen, transport, accommodation and other included services, as well as exclusions and possible extra charges.
What do space-tourism prices show?
Space tourism is sometimes grouped with extreme adventure experiences, but it is not a conventional adventure sport. Its published price figures are especially difficult to compare: some are historical estimates, while the current booking page cited below does not display a price.
#1 Best Overall
- Virgin Galactic: The company’s 15 February 2022 announcement gave a total reservation price of USD $450,000 and described a 90-minute journey with several days of preparedness activities. This is a historical announced price, not a verified current offer. The captured current homepage advertises limited bookings but does not state a ticket price.
- Suborbital and orbital travel: A 2021 National Air and Space Museum overview gave historical estimates of more than USD $250,000 for a suborbital seat and about USD $50 million for an orbital ticket. These are estimates from 2021, not current operator prices.
- International Space Station tourism: Guinness World Records reports an estimated USD $20–35 million cost for an ISS tourist trip as of 2009, noting that exact fees were not made public. This is historical context, not a current booking quote.
The differences in date, destination and trip type make these figures unsuitable for ranking against one another or against a mountaineering package. In particular, a historic estimate or reported cost should not be read as proof that a seat is available today at that price.

A credible top-nine list needs current, attributable prices for nine distinct experiences, with enough information to compare what each price buys. The available published examples do not establish that set. Everest listings are operator-specific packages with differing durations and services; space-tourism figures mix current booking status with old announced prices and historical estimates. Placing them in a single numbered order would imply a comparability the evidence does not support.
For a useful comparison, check each offer against the same questions:
- Price and date: Is the amount a current operator quote, a dated announcement, an estimate or a historical reported cost?
- Trip details: What are the route or destination, duration, departure year and geography?
- Inclusions: What support, transport, preparation, equipment or other services are specified?
- Exclusions and uncertainty: Are flights or other costs separate, estimated or subject to delays? What must be confirmed directly with the provider?
- Availability: Does the provider publish a price for the relevant departure, or merely advertise bookings?
Until comparable current listings are available for nine categories, the most defensible conclusion is narrower: guided Everest departures in the cited listings range from GBP £42,000 starting price to USD $130,000 for a specific premium package, while the cited space-tourism amounts are dated historical figures rather than a verified current price ladder.
