Beatport has taken a growth investment from Square Nine Capital, a Los Angeles-based investment firm. According to the October 8, 2026 announcement as reported by K-Jewel 99.3 FM, the deal refinances an existing credit facility, which means it repays older loans, and it also brings new capital for Beatport’s strategic priorities. The amount was not disclosed.
Who is investing and what the deal does
The company’s own description, relayed in the report, is that the investment serves two purposes at once. The first is debt: it replaces an existing credit facility and pays down older loans. The second is fresh money that Beatport says it will use for its platform, its products, its broader ecosystem, and expanded offerings for music creators around the world.
Those two purposes carry very different weight for an outside reader. Refinancing changes what the company owes and to whom. New capital changes what the company can spend. The announcement mixes them in one sentence, and the report does not separate the two in dollar terms.
What is known and what is not
The table below sets out each element of the announcement against what the report leaves unstated. Where a detail is missing, it is missing from the coverage of the announcement, not necessarily from the transaction itself.

| Element | What the announcement says | What is not stated |
|---|---|---|
| Investor | Square Nine Capital, described as a Los Angeles-based investment firm | Size of the stake, governance rights, or board seats: not stated |
| Debt | Refinances an existing credit facility and repays older loans | Lenders, interest rates, maturity dates, and covenants: not stated |
| New capital | Additional funds for Beatport’s strategic priorities | Amount: not disclosed |
| Use of funds | Platform, products, broader ecosystem, and offerings for music creators | Line-item allocation and timetable: not stated |
| Ownership | Axar Capital is described as the majority owner | Ownership split after the transaction: not stated |
Because the amount is undisclosed, readers should not treat the phrase “growth investment” as a signal of deal size. It describes the purpose of the money, not how much of it there is.
Refinancing versus new growth capital
A credit facility is a borrowing arrangement with lenders. Refinancing replaces that arrangement with a new one, typically to extend the repayment schedule, change the terms, or simplify a capital structure. Whether this deal does any of those things is not described. The announcement says older loans will be repaid, which removes those obligations, but it does not say whether the new arrangement is cheaper, longer, or more restrictive.
The distinction matters because a company that uses new equity-style capital to clear old debt has not necessarily gained spending room. Spending room appears only when the new money exceeds what is needed to retire the old debt. The report does not say how the proceeds split between the two.
Stated priorities and the live-events context
Beatport’s CEO, Matt Gralen, welcomed Square Nine as a new capital partner and said the firm “shares our conviction in Beatport’s leading position and strategic role, and we look forward to working together as we continue to invest in our platform and expand the ways we serve the global electronic music community.” That sentence is the closest the announcement comes to a statement of intent, and it is intent rather than a committed budget.

The report also quotes former CEO Robb McDaniels on the company’s push into live events. He described how the company’s online events during the pandemic built comfort with everything “from small pop-ups to larger stage takeovers and festivals.” That comment is earlier strategic context. The financing announcement does not tie the new capital to live events, so readers should not assume the investment funds them.
Ownership and past strategic review
The report identifies Axar Capital as Beatport’s majority owner and says the company previously explored strategic options, including a possible sale, without completing one. That history comes from the report and has not been verified independently. Square Nine’s leader, Griffin Coakley, acknowledged Axar’s role, saying the firm has “tremendous respect for the team at Axar and what they have built in partnership with Beatport’s management team.”
What this means for a personal-finance reader
For most people, a private-company financing does not change a bank balance or a investment account. Nothing in the announcement is a consumer offer, a price change, or an invitation to invest, and the report does not describe any way for individual investors to take part. If you are a Beatport subscriber or buyer, the announcement does not say anything about pricing or terms, so there is nothing to act on yet.
The useful habit is to watch for the details the announcement left out. These are the points that would show whether the deal is more than a balance-sheet cleanup:

When reading similar announcements from private companies, a short checklist helps separate substance from framing:
- Identify whether the money repays debt, funds operations, or both.
- Look for a number. If none is given, treat the deal size as unknown.
- Check whether the stated goals are tied to a budget or a timetable.
- Note who said what. A quote from an investor or CEO describes intent, not results.

Until then, the reliable answer to “how much did Beatport raise?” is that the company has not said.
The rest of the picture is a refinancing with new money attached, announced with a stated direction and no published budget.
Anyone deciding something based on this deal should wait for the terms rather than the headline.
That is the most the announcement supports today.

The Bottom Line
Square Nine Capital has come in with money that both repays older Beatport debt and adds new capital, but the size of the deal, the new loan terms, and the spending plan are all unstated. Treat the stated goals as intent until the company or its investors publish figures.
