Mortgage loan-origination software startup Vesta announced a $30 million funding round led by Conversion Capital, TechCrunch reported on October 8, 2026. The company says it has raised $85 million to date. Vesta is building an AI-enabled platform for lenders to manage loan workflows, with software agents handling some document, task and decision-support work under lender oversight.

Who invested in Vesta’s $30 million round?

Conversion Capital led the round. TechCrunch also named Vesta customers Pennymac and New American Funding, along with Citi Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, as investors. TechCrunch reported the financing; a separate primary financing announcement was not available in the cited coverage. The $30 million round brings Vesta’s reported total funding to $85 million. What does Vesta do?

Founded in 2020 by Mike Yu and Devon Yang, Vesta sells loan-origination software to mortgage lenders. A loan-origination system, or LOS, supports the processes lenders use to move a mortgage application through steps such as document review, underwriting and funding. Vesta describes its product as an AI-native LOS: its stated aim is to let lender employees and software agents work within configurable shared workflows. Vesta

Vesta says its software can classify and extract information from loan documents, run automated checks, route tasks to employees or agents, and provide assistants that answer questions or make changes to loans and administrative workflows. It also says agent actions and reasoning are recorded in an audit trail. Those are vendor-described capabilities; the available material does not independently evaluate performance or establish how the audit controls work in practice.

How are AI agents being used in mortgage lending?

Vesta CEO Mike Yu told TechCrunch that lenders can introduce agents gradually: an employee first reviews an agent’s work, then an agent may handle a portion of loans, with its role expanding over time. Yu also said some lenders use agents to make underwriting decisions. That does not transfer accountability for lending decisions to the software: Yu said lenders remain responsible for underwriting regardless of the system they use.

For lenders evaluating this approach, the practical questions are not simply whether a vendor offers agents, but which tasks they can perform, when a person must review or approve work, how exceptions return to staff, and what records let a lender inspect the agent’s actions. The available sources describe Vesta’s intended controls but do not provide a neutral comparison of those controls with other systems.

What is known about Vesta’s lender deployments?

Verus Mortgage Capital

Vesta announced that Verus Mortgage Capital went live on the platform in July 2026, replacing its legacy LOS. The company and Verus said Vesta AI features were running in production, including document intelligence, an agent that resolves tasks and a loan assistant. This is a customer and vendor account of deployment, not an independent assessment of results. Vesta

New American Funding

Vesta and New American Funding announced a partnership on July 15, 2026, with a phased rollout scheduled for 2027. The plan covers workflows in underwriting, processing and funding. The announcement establishes an intended rollout, not that the deployment has been completed. Vesta

What do the reported efficiency and growth figures show?

TechCrunch attributed to Yu estimates that U.S. mortgages take around 40 days to close and cost around $11,000 per loan. The article does not provide a methodology for those figures, so they should be read as the CEO’s characterization rather than universal industry measurements. TechCrunch

Vesta’s website says Pennymac reported a 25% reduction in operational cost to originate on its fourth-quarter 2025 earnings call. Vesta’s LOS page also presents 50% efficiency gains for loan officers and a processing-time change from 14.5 to 11 hours. These figures are presented by Vesta as Pennymac outcomes; the available information does not define the measures or provide underlying data for comparison across lenders. Vesta

TechCrunch also reported Yu’s claims of 12-times year-over-year revenue growth and less than 5% market share. These are CEO-reported metrics, not audited financial statements or independent market-share research. TechCrunch

How does Vesta compare with other mortgage software?

TechCrunch identifies ICE Mortgage Technology as a traditional mortgage software competitor and Xpanse as an AI-native competitor. Yu’s argument is that legacy systems were not designed for agents and that adding agents to them is difficult; that is Vesta’s competitive position, not proof that its product is superior.
