Where were Amazon drivers reported to be striking?
A December 20, 2024 report placed the walkout at seven delivery hubs: one each in Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco and Skokie, Illinois, plus three in Southern California. Teamsters local unions also set up picket lines at other Amazon facilities, according to the report. It did not identify the additional facilities.
The workers were described as employees of third-party delivery contractors, rather than Amazon employees directly.
How many workers were involved?
The Teamsters characterized the action as involving thousands of workers. That is the union’s estimate; the report did not independently verify the number who joined the strike. Seven is the reported count of hubs, not a count of participating workers.

Why did the drivers strike?
The Teamsters said Amazon had repeatedly refused to follow the law and bargain with workers who had organized with the union. The union had set December 15, 2024, as a deadline for negotiations, according to the report.
The dispute involved whether Amazon had a duty to bargain with these contractor-employed workers. The report said an earlier-2024 National Labor Relations Board complaint alleged Amazon and one of its delivery contractors were joint employers and that Amazon was required to recognize and bargain with the Teamsters. That was an allegation in a complaint, not a legal finding established by the available reporting; the report did not identify the case or its later status.

What did Amazon say?
Amazon disputed the union’s account. Spokesperson Kelly Nantel said the Teamsters did not represent the thousands of Amazon employees and drivers the union claimed to represent, and accused the union of threatening and intimidating workers. Those were Amazon’s assertions; the report did not establish them as findings.
Nantel also said: “For more than a year now, the Teamsters have continued to intentionally mislead the public – claiming that they represent ‘thousands of Amazon employees and drivers’. They don’t, and this is another attempt to push a false narrative.”

Could the strike delay your Amazon package?
The available report cannot answer that for a particular order. Amazon said it expected the seven hubs to operate normally, but the report did not provide an independent assessment of delivery performance, confirm whether delays occurred, or establish how long the walkout lasted. Its account concerns the strike as reported on December 20, 2024, so it does not establish current strike activity or current delivery conditions.
