That studio-reported opening-period figure is distinct from the film’s $149.3 million global total for July 5–7 and its $122.6 million five-day North American opening.
What did Despicable Me 4 make during its global opening?
Comcast reported on July 16, 2024, that the Universal Pictures release opened as the No. 1 film globally with $230 million worldwide. The announcement establishes the studio’s opening-period milestone, but it does not define that figure as a single Friday-to-Sunday weekend or as the film’s final box-office total. Comcast’s July 16 announcement is the source for the $230 million figure.
Other opening figures refer to narrower periods or different territories. The amounts should not be compared as if they describe the same box-office window:

Why are there different opening-weekend numbers?
“Opening” can mean a studio’s worldwide opening-period total, the conventional Friday-through-Sunday weekend, or an extended holiday frame. The North American figure reported by the official Japanese film site covers five days, while Screen International’s Comscore-credited figure covers July 5–7 and includes both North America and international markets. Comcast’s July 16 announcement gives a separate worldwide opening figure without defining it as that same July 5–7 weekend.

The official Japanese film-site post on July 8 also reported $229 million worldwide cumulatively at that point, including about $106 million internationally. That dated snapshot is close to, but not the same as, Comcast’s later $230 million announcement; the reports were published on different dates and describe different reporting points. The post said the film had opened in 73 international territories and ranked No. 1 in 46 of them.
What is Despicable Me 4’s worldwide box-office total?
The film finished with a worldwide total near $1 billion, but box-office databases do not show an identical figure. As accessed October 8, 2026, Box Office Mojo listed $972,021,410 worldwide, while The Numbers listed $986,706,425. These are database totals, not the 2024 opening figures, and the difference should not be silently reconciled into a single exact number.

For additional context, both databases listed domestic earnings of $361,004,205 and a domestic opening figure of $75,009,210. Box Office Mojo labels the latter as domestic opening, while The Numbers lists it as opening weekend; neither figure should be confused with the worldwide opening-period amount.
