The key qualification is Prometheus: Scott directed that film too, and its listed worldwide gross is higher than Romulus. So the accurate claim is that Romulus outgrossed Scott’s original Alien and Cameron’s Aliens, not every Alien entry directed by Scott.
What makes up Romulus’s worldwide total?
The Numbers’ film page, checked October 8, 2026, separates the reported total into $105,313,091 domestic and $245,552,251 international. Together those figures equal the listed $350,865,342 worldwide gross. “Domestic” refers to the market category used by the source; it should not be substituted for worldwide performance. The page also lists a $42,003,361 domestic opening weekend. The Numbers’ Alien: Romulus box-office and financial page provides the territory breakdown.

#1 Best Overall
- This truly terrifying sci-fi horror-thriller takes the legendary ?Alien? franchise back to its iconic roots. While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonizers come face-to-face with the deadliest life form in the universe. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Does the box office mean the film was profitable?
No profit conclusion follows from comparing gross revenue with the production budget alone. The Numbers lists an $80,000,000 production budget, making the worldwide gross about 4.4 times that figure. But box-office gross is not the studio’s take-home revenue, and the cited page does not provide enough information to calculate net profit or studio returns. Distribution, marketing, exhibitor shares, and other costs are not accounted for by that simple ratio.
