Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot, came back to Ubisoft and was named co-CEO of a new subsidiary on July 16, 2025. He shares that role with Christophe Derennes. The subsidiary is focused on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Ubisoft’s announcement describes Charlie as responsible for the “what” of those three brands, and Derennes as responsible for operations and production.
What Ubisoft announced
The news was published by Ubisoft on July 16, 2025. It establishes three facts that are useful for readers who want to know what changed:
- The appointment: Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes were named co-CEOs of a new subsidiary.
- The brands: The subsidiary’s focus is Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
- The return: Ubisoft says Charlie rejoined the company in 2025 to take part in its internal transformation committee before the co-CEO appointment.
Ubisoft’s own account of his background says he started in games at Owlient in 2014. Owlient was a studio Ubisoft acquired, and Ubisoft says it grew from browser-based free-to-play games into mobile under his leadership. That is the company’s description of his track record. The announcement does not include an independent assessment of it.
How the two co-CEO roles are divided
Ubisoft presented the pair as complementary. The table below lists the remit Ubisoft gave each co-CEO. It is the company’s stated arrangement, not an independently verified organization chart.

| Co-CEO | Responsibilities described by Ubisoft | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Charlie Guillemot | Pilots the three brands: vision, direction, content development, and marketing | Ubisoft announcement, July 16, 2025 |
| Christophe Derennes | Operational and production leadership | Ubisoft announcement, July 16, 2025 |
In his own words in the announcement’s Q&A, Charlie Guillemot put it this way: “In a nutshell, I’ll be in charge of the ‘what’ — I will pilot the three brands, which includes their vision, direction, content development, and marketing.” In the same announcement he also said: “In the lead-up to Ubisoft’s 40th anniversary, Yves [Guillemot] has placed his trust in us to drive change while building on solid foundations.”
Family relationship and the title question
Readers searching for “Yves Guillemot’s son returns to Ubisoft” are asking about the same news. The family link is accurate, but it does not tell you anything about his qualifications, and the announcement does not claim that it does. Ubisoft’s formal framing is the appointment and the responsibilities listed above.

Be careful with the title. Ubisoft’s leadership page, checked shortly before this article was written, lists Yves Guillemot as Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer. It does not list Charlie Guillemot’s subsidiary title. So the accurate way to describe his role is “the co-CEO appointment announced in July 2025.” Treat it as his current title only if a newer official Ubisoft source confirms it.
The coverage available for this article did not establish a well-sourced account of public reaction to the appointment. Any criticism or defence would need to be sourced to the people who made it, and that is not covered here.

Context from Ubisoft’s FY2025-26 reporting
Ubisoft’s FY2025-26 reporting describes a reorganization around autonomous Creative Houses. Two figures from that reporting are relevant to the appointment, and both are company-reported:
- Ubisoft reported 16,590 employees at the end of March 2026.
- Ubisoft said it brought back 155 former Ubisoft top talents during the fiscal year.
The official FY2025-26 results statement is dated May 20, 2026. Its transformation and business outlook describe the company’s position as of that date. They are not a current forecast, so check for a newer Ubisoft release before quoting them as a forward view.

What this means for personal finance readers
The announcement contains no financial terms, no share-price information, and no compensation details. It tells you who runs a creative and marketing remit inside a publisher. It does not tell you whether Ubisoft’s financial position has improved or worsened. If you follow Ubisoft as an investment, the company’s results statements and filings are the places to look, and this appointment is only one part of the picture.
The same is true for consumers. The franchises named in the announcement are video games, and no specific game title, edition, platform, or product listing is tied to this news.

Ubisoft is a company, and this is company news. A useful reading is to note the appointment and its stated division of responsibilities, then judge the company by its results over time.

The Bottom Line
Charlie Guillemot’s return was announced on July 16, 2025 as a co-CEO appointment alongside Christophe Derennes, covering Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. The announcement describes the split as creative and brand leadership for him and operations and production for Derennes. It contains no financial information, so treat it as corporate news rather than a financial signal.
