Zarea Limited completed an initial public offering on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that raised about PKR 1.03 billion, the figure the title rounds to Rs1.03 billion. The Pakistan Stock Exchange described it as the first IPO of 2025 on the exchange’s main board, and Zarea’s shares listed on February 28, 2025. The offering and subscription windows closed in February 2025. This article is a historical account of that completed capital-markets event, not an invitation to subscribe or investment advice.
What the offering raised and how it was priced
The IPO raised PKR 1.03 billion through book building, and PSX reported that it was oversubscribed 1.9 times. The key figures below come from different PSX documents, so each row names its source and date.
| Item | Reported value | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Total raised | About PKR 1.03 billion (rounded to Rs1.03 billion in the title) | PSX listing-day press release, February 2025 |
| Demand relative to shares available | 1.9 times oversubscribed | PSX listing-day press release, February 2025 |
| Shares offered | 62.5 million ordinary shares | PSX prospectus-placement notice, 2024 |
| Par value per share | PKR 1 | PSX prospectus-placement notice, 2024 |
| Floor price | PKR 16 per share | PSX prospectus-placement notice, 2024 |
| Pricing method | Book building | PSX prospectus-placement notice, 2024; issuer prospectus |
The total is not a precise product of the share count and the floor price. At the PKR 16 floor, 62.5 million shares would bring in about PKR 1.0 billion. The reported PKR 1.03 billion is slightly higher, which is consistent with book building settling on a price above the floor. The sources used for this article do not state the final issue price, so that interpretation should be read as arithmetic rather than a confirmed figure.
The timeline: book building, subscription and listing
The offer ran in three distinct stages on different dates. Completing the offer required all three, and each was a separate step.
#1 Best Overall
- Book building, February 10–11, 2025. Institutional and other bids were gathered to find the price, using the book-building system operated by PSX.
- Public subscription, February 17–18, 2025. The general public submitted applications electronically through PSX’s e-IPO System.
- Listing, February 28, 2025. Zarea’s ordinary shares began trading on the exchange.
The dates come from PSX’s issuer listing page and the listing-day release. The prospectus names PSX as the designated institution for the issue.
How the two parts of the offer worked
Book building for price discovery
Book building is a method in which the issuer does not fix a single price in advance. Instead, it sets a floor price and invites bids, so the final price reflects what demand supports. In Zarea’s case, the floor was PKR 16 per share. The prospectus says PSX’s book-building system was used for this price discovery. Bidding above the floor does not guarantee an allocation, and bids at or near the floor do not guarantee one either.

Public subscription through the e-IPO System
The public portion of the offer was a separate window in which ordinary investors applied electronically through PSX’s e-IPO System. The prospectus describes this as the mechanism for public applications. The public window was historical, and the sources do not show how many individual applicants took part or how allocations were split between investor groups.
What “1.9 times oversubscribed” means
Oversubscription means demand for the offer exceeded the shares available. PSX’s figure of 1.9 times indicates that applications were roughly 1.9 times the number of shares on offer. It is a measure of demand at the time of the offer. It is not a measure of profit, and it does not show whether the share price rose or fell after listing. Demand in an IPO can be strong while the stock performs poorly later, and the reverse is also possible.

Was it really the first IPO of 2025?
The accurate version of the claim is narrower than “the first IPO in Pakistan in 2025.” PSX said Zarea’s listing was the first IPO of 2025 on its main board, according to its listing-day release. That is the basis for the title. The article does not establish whether other offerings took place outside the main board in the same period.

PSX describes Zarea as a B2B e-commerce platform that connects buyers and sellers of cement, steel, agricultural biomass and construction materials. That is the exchange’s description of the business. The sources used here do not independently verify the company’s market position, and the phrase “Pakistan’s leading B2B commodities marketplace” comes from the company’s own statement.
