In June and July 2025, reporting said Nintendo’s Switch 2 was not available on Amazon US. Bloomberg attributed the gap to a reported dispute over third-party sellers who allegedly imported Nintendo games and listed them below Nintendo’s advertised prices. Nintendo and Amazon both disputed that account. The reporting from 2025 cannot tell you what Amazon US sells today, so treat the cause as an unconfirmed explanation and check the live product page before you assume anything about stock or sellers.
What was reported in 2025
The Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025, and within weeks the Amazon US gap was being reported as a news story. The timeline below shows what each source said and when, so you can separate the original claim from the responses to it.
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Nintendo Switch 2 System | $499.00 | Buy on Amazon |

Nintendo Switch 2 System with Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Bundle | $568.00 | Buy on Amazon |

Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle with Bonus HDMI Cable & Screen Cleaning Cloth | $619.00 | Buy on Amazon |
| Date | Source | What it reported |
|---|---|---|
| June 5, 2025 | Nintendo’s US launch announcement | Switch 2 released with suggested prices of $449.99 for the system and $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle. |
| June 30, 2025 | Bloomberg (Matt Day) | Nintendo had stopped selling its products on Amazon US after a disagreement over unauthorized sales, citing a person familiar with the situation. |
| June 30, 2025 | Engadget | The console remained unavailable from Amazon at that time, and the piece summarized Bloomberg’s account. |
| July 1, 2025 | TechRadar | Nintendo denied the Bloomberg claims, and Amazon called them inaccurate. Both responses were quoted through TechRadar’s reporting. |
Taken together, these reports establish that the console was not available from Amazon US in late June and early July 2025. They do not establish whether that situation continued, changed, or ended.
Bloomberg’s account and its limits
Bloomberg’s reporting is the source of the seller explanation, and it is an account of an allegation rather than a company statement. According to Bloomberg, a person familiar with the situation described third-party merchants buying Nintendo products in bulk in Southeast Asia and exporting them to the United States, where games were allegedly listed below Nintendo’s advertised prices. Bloomberg’s report did not rely on a named company statement for that description.

Engadget’s June 30, 2025 summary of the same story added one more detail: Amazon had reportedly offered to label the products as authentic. That offer is part of the reported account. It is not an explanation that either company confirmed.
How Nintendo and Amazon responded
TechRadar reported the companies’ responses on July 1, 2025. Nintendo’s spokesperson is quoted as saying: “There is no such fact.” Amazon’s spokesperson is quoted as saying: “The claims made by Bloomberg regarding our relationship with Nintendo are inaccurate.” These are quotations as TechRadar reported them. Neither company’s statement was obtained in a direct interview for this article.
What the seller explanation does and does not establish
The seller explanation is a reported cause, and it is contested. The distinction matters because the same headline can be read as a finding when it is only a claim. Here is how the evidence breaks down:
- Reported, attributed to a source: third-party merchants were allegedly importing Nintendo games from Southeast Asia and undercutting Nintendo’s advertised prices.
- Disputed: Nintendo said “There is no such fact,” and Amazon called the claims inaccurate.
- Not established by the reporting: that third-party sellers caused the Switch 2 gap, that the gap continues today, or what the arrangement between Nintendo and Amazon currently looks like.
If you see the headline repeated without the attribution, read it as shorthand for Bloomberg’s reported account rather than a verified cause.

What is established about the Switch 2 itself
The following facts come from Nintendo’s own US launch announcement and are not affected by the Amazon dispute.
Launch prices
| Configuration | Suggested price (Nintendo, 2025 launch) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 system | $449.99 (US) | US launch suggested price from Nintendo’s announcement. Not a current price. |
| Switch 2 with Mario Kart World bundle | $499.99 (US) | US launch bundle price from Nintendo’s announcement. Not a current price. |
| Switch 2 system (Japan) | 49,980 yen | Japan-specific launch pricing. Do not convert it to or compare it with US prices. |
What is in the box
Nintendo’s US announcement lists the following as included with the console:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Joy-Con 2 controllers
- Grip and straps
- Dock
- HDMI cable
- AC adapter
- USB-C charging cable
Compatibility with existing games and accessories
Nintendo says Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital games released for the original Switch. It also warns that some games may not be supported or fully compatible, so check Nintendo’s compatibility information before buying an older title. Original Switch Joy-Con controllers and peripherals such as the Pro Controller can connect wirelessly.
The camera is optional
Nintendo lists a Switch 2 camera as a separately sold accessory for video chat. It is not required for ordinary console use, so do not add it to your budget as a necessary purchase.

How to check Amazon US today
Because the 2025 reporting cannot tell you the current status, run this check before you buy and note the date you did it. Listings and sellers change.
- Open the US site at amazon.com and confirm the country setting is United States.
- Search for “Nintendo Switch 2” and check whether a console listing appears in the results.
- Open the listing and read the “Sold by” and “Ships from” lines. Confirm whether Amazon or another seller is named, and whether the seller is Nintendo or an unfamiliar third party.
- Compare the price with the $449.99 system price or the $499.99 bundle price. A price well above these should prompt a closer look at the seller and the listing details.
- Read the product title and description for region and language configuration, and confirm the bundle contents, including whether any bundled game is physical or digital.
- If Amazon US has no direct listing, or the only listings are from unfamiliar sellers, check Nintendo’s own store and established retailers instead. Compare the same details in the table below.
Comparing purchase options
When you compare sellers, use the same checklist for each one so the results are directly comparable.
| Check | Why it matters | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Seller identity | The reported dispute centered on who sells and imports products. | Whether the seller is Nintendo, Amazon, another established retailer, or a marketplace third party. |
| Price against suggested price | The reported undercutting and any markup both show up here. | Current price compared with $449.99 (system) or $499.99 (Mario Kart World bundle), with the date noted. |
| Region and language | Imported units may differ from the configuration you expect. | Region and language stated in the listing, and whether it matches your country. |
| Shipping and returns | Return rights differ sharply between sellers. | Return window, who handles returns, and shipping costs stated before checkout. |
| Bundle contents | A bundle may include a physical or digital game. | Whether the bundled game is physical or digital, and whether a download code is included. |
| Compatibility of existing items | Nintendo says some older games and accessories may not be fully compatible. | Nintendo’s compatibility information for the specific game or accessory you plan to use. |
Protecting your money if you buy from a marketplace seller
The personal-finance question is less about the cause of the gap than about what you pay and what you can recover if something goes wrong.
- Compare total cost, not just price. Add shipping, taxes where applicable, and any fees to the listed price before comparing it with the suggested price.
- Pay with a method that offers dispute rights. A credit card or a payment method with buyer protection gives you a route to dispute a charge if the item never arrives or is not as described.
- Confirm the return window before you pay. If the window is short or the seller does not accept returns, a price saving may not be worth the risk.
- Keep the order record. Save the listing, the seller name, the price, and the order confirmation in case you need to make a claim.
A markup above the suggested price is not proof of an illegal import. It is a reason to check the seller more carefully before you pay.
