It depends on the recruiting portal. A verified PakID account with an active Digital ID is required to sign in to NADRA’s own careers portal, but the published guidance for other government job portals does not establish PakID as a universal requirement. Updating your CNIC does not by itself make you eligible for a vacancy or guarantee that an application will be accepted.
What a NADRA PakID update does
PakID is NADRA’s official mobile app for identity registration, updates and service tracking. For CNIC changes, NADRA lists an Update / Modify service path. Follow the instructions shown for your case: some applications may require a visit to a Registration Centre for biometric verification or a photograph. Use NADRA’s official CNIC service guidance to check the current route and requirements.
A Press Information Department announcement dated January 16, 2025 said the Pak-ID website would close from January 17 and services would be provided through the mobile app. That was a dated announcement; check NADRA’s current service guidance for present instructions. Can I apply for government jobs with a NADRA Pak-ID update?
You can apply only if you meet the vacancy’s requirements and complete the steps on the recruiting portal. An identity update may help ensure your CNIC details are accurate, but it is not a substitute for required qualifications, age, experience, documents or a timely application. Check the specific vacancy page for its application instructions and closing date.

Is PakID required for government jobs?
Not as a general rule established by the available portal guidance. The requirement differs between NADRA’s own careers portal and other recruitment services.
NADRA Careers
NADRA’s careers guidance says a verified account with an active Digital ID on PakID is mandatory for single sign-on to its Career Portal. This is a specific login requirement for NADRA recruitment, not evidence that every government employer requires PakID. See NADRA’s careers information.

NEXT Portal
The official NEXT Portal job-seeker guide describes a separate application flow. Applicants verify an email address, complete personal details—including name, date of birth, CNIC and photo—and enter at least one qualification. Experience is needed when the vacancy requires it. The portal checks the profile against the job’s qualification, age and experience criteria before accepting an application. Do I need to update my CNIC before applying?
Update your CNIC information if it is incorrect or if the particular application requires an update. If your details are accurate and the vacancy does not require a change, the fact that PakID offers an update service does not mean you must update your record before applying. Use the employer’s instructions to determine what information or documents to submit.

Digital CNIC and document acceptance
Radio Pakistan reported on March 13, 2026 that NADRA considers the digital CNIC available through PakID legally equivalent to a physical card. The same report noted concerns from NADRA about some offices and service providers refusing digital credentials. That position does not guarantee that every recruitment portal or office will accept a digital credential at every step.
