Yaser Asprilla is no longer a Watford player, so a 2026 ranking of Watford’s five best players cannot include him as a current asset. He left Watford for Girona in 2024, and in January 2026 Girona loaned him to Galatasaray. The £6.85m figure attached to him is also unverified: no dated source for it was found, and the sources that do exist describe Watford’s squad in totals, not a named top five. This article explains what the record shows, what it does not show, and how to check a player valuation before you rely on one.
What the transfer record shows
The clearest facts are the club-to-club moves, which are reported with dates:
- August 2024: Diario AS reported on 22 August 2024 that Girona had completed its agreement with Watford for Asprilla, who was expected to sign a contract running through 2030.
- January 2026: Diario AS reported on 25 January 2026 that Asprilla had left Girona for Galatasaray on loan through the end of that season, with a non-obligatory purchase option.
Neither report places Asprilla at Watford in 2026. A headline that presents him as one of the club’s current best five is therefore out of date, whatever his value was at an earlier point.
Why the £6.85m figure cannot be treated as current
The £6.85m number has three problems that a reader should check before repeating it:

- includes one World Cup 2026 trading card pack contains 8 randomly selected soccer cards
- these soccer cards are perfect for new soccer fans and fans of the world cup
- have a chance at getting great soccer players like yamal, ronaldo and more
- No dated source. The amount was not matched to a named valuation or report with a publication date, so it is not possible to say when it was true.
- Wrong currency for most valuation sources. The Watford squad figures that were located are quoted in euros (€). A pound figure has to come from a source that states its own conversion date and exchange rate, or it cannot be compared with the euro totals.
- Wrong scope. A player’s value on a database says nothing about what a club paid, and a loan with an option to buy does not set a fixed fee. The £6.85m figure does not say whether it describes a valuation, a fee, or a conversion.
Until a dated original source is identified, the figure should be treated as unverified rather than as Asprilla’s current price.
What Watford’s squad totals do and do not tell you
Valuation sites publish squad totals, which are easy to find and easy to misread. Two snapshots for Watford are relevant here:

| Snapshot | Players listed | Total squad market value | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025/26 squad | 29 | €89.80m | Transfermarkt squad page, retrieved 2026 |
| 2026/27 squad | 20 | €65.30m | Transfermarkt squad page, retrieved 2026 |
These totals describe whole squads in two different seasons. They do not identify the most valuable individual players, and they cannot be used to build a top five. The individual rows needed for that ranking were not available in the material reviewed, so no current five-player order is given here.
How to check a player’s market value yourself
- Confirm the season and date. Open the club’s squad page and check the season label (for example, 2026/27) and the date the page was retrieved. Values change with transfers, contract changes and form, so an undated figure is of limited use.
- Read the currency symbol. Note whether the value is in euros or pounds. If you need to compare, record the exchange rate and the date you used it, rather than mixing currencies in one list.
- Use one publisher and one date for every player. A ranking built from values taken from different sites or different weeks compares different measurements.
- Check the player’s club today. Loan spells and transfers change the picture; a player on loan may still be listed under a parent club, so confirm where he is currently playing.
- Keep market value separate from transfer fee. A valuation is an estimate of what a player might be worth on the market. A transfer fee is a price a club actually agreed to pay. Do not present one as the other.
- Record what you could not confirm. If a figure has no source or date, label it as unverified in your notes or article.
How to correct a headline like this one
A current version of this topic would need to name the season, use one valuation source with a visible date, list individual players from that source, and drop any player who has left the club. For Asprilla specifically, the accurate position is that he has been at Girona and, on loan, at Galatasaray since January 2026, and that his £6.85m value is not confirmed.
