Xiaomi’s Beijing Car Factory: What the 150,000-Vehicle Phase 1 Capacity Means

The 150,000-vehicle figure was a 2021 planned annual capacity for Phase 1 of Xiaomi's Beijing car factory. Production has ramped since, but current rated capacity is unconfirmed.

The 150,000-vehicle figure is the planned annual capacity for Phase 1 of Xiaomi’s Beijing vehicle factory, announced in 2021. Each of the two planned phases was to add 150,000 vehicles a year, or 300,000 combined, and the first Xiaomi car was expected to reach mass production in 2024. Production did begin and ramp up. But the official material reviewed for this article does not state the factory’s current rated capacity or how much of it is in use, so “on track” describes a 2021 forecast rather than a confirmed present-day status.

What the 150,000 figure measures

The number is a capacity ceiling, not a count of cars built. The Beijing Yizhuang development-zone announcement, as reported by CnEVPost on November 27, 2021, stated: “The plant will be built in two phases, with annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles in the first and second phases, respectively.” That is a description of what the plant was designed to allow, set before construction was complete. It says nothing about how many vehicles were actually produced in any later year.

From plan to production: the timeline

The factory has moved through several distinct stages, each documented by a different publisher. The table below keeps them separate.

Date What was reported Source
November 2021 Two phases planned at 150,000 vehicles a year each; first Xiaomi car expected to reach mass production in 2024 Beijing Yizhuang development-zone announcement, as reported by CnEVPost
March 2024 Xiaomi officially launches its first smart EV, the SU7 Series Xiaomi Corporation, 2024 Annual Report (published April 24, 2025)
Calendar 2024 136,854 SU7 Series vehicles delivered Xiaomi Corporation, 2024 Annual Report
November 23, 2024 100,000 complete vehicles made within 230 days, described as a record for new energy vehicle production; one new car reported every 76 seconds on the assembly line Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office
Current Official factory page describes the campus and facilities; it does not state Phase 1 annual capacity (page accessed October 8, 2026) Xiaomi Auto, official factory page

The 230-day count is the government’s figure and is not restated as an annual rate by the source. Annualizing it would be an inference the sources do not make, and it would blend a ramp-up period with steady-state running. Treat it as a milestone, not a production rate.

Three measures that are easy to confuse

Most of the confusion around this factory comes from treating planned capacity, production, and sales as the same thing. They measure different things, come from different publishers, and cover different periods.

Measure Reported figure Period Publisher What it does not show
Planned annual capacity 150,000 vehicles per phase; 300,000 across two phases Plan announced in 2021 Beijing Yizhuang announcement, as reported by CnEVPost Actual output, or whether the planned capacity is installed today
Manufacturing milestone and line cadence 100,000 complete vehicles; one vehicle every 76 seconds Within 230 days, reported November 2024 Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office Annual output, a sustained production rate, or the start date of the count
Customer deliveries 136,854 SU7 Series vehicles Calendar year 2024 Xiaomi Corporation, 2024 Annual Report Factory capacity or production in a given period; deliveries and production can differ within a year

Do not divide 2024 deliveries by the 150,000 figure to estimate how much of Phase 1 is being used. The measures cover different periods, the sources do not describe how output was allocated between phases, and no production schedule was published alongside them.

What the factory includes

Xiaomi’s official factory page places the campus in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. Its key facilities are:

  • A campus of 718,000 square meters combining R&D, production, sales, and customer experience
  • Six workshops for new energy vehicle production
  • An R&D and testing base with a 2.5-kilometer test track
  • More than 700 robots supporting production, and in-house production of the die-cast rear floor and the CTB battery

The Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office’s November 2024 article describes the same integrated campus and reports more than 700 industrial robots on the lines, with ±0.5 mm assembly precision for large parts. These are descriptions of the facility by Xiaomi and by the government office. They are not independent audits of automation levels or output.

What is still not established

The most recent primary disclosures reviewed for this article are the November 2024 government report, Xiaomi’s 2024 annual report published in April 2025, and the factory page accessed in October 2026. Against that record, the following points remain unconfirmed:

  • Current installed capacity of Phase 1. No official source reviewed states a present rated figure. The 150,000 number is the 2021 plan.
  • Utilization and sustained annual output. The 100,000-vehicle milestone and the 2024 delivery total do not establish a steady annual rate.
  • Phase 2 status. The 150,000 figure for the second phase also comes from the 2021 plan, with no later confirmation found.
  • Whether the 2024 expectation was met on a sustained basis. Production clearly began and reached significant volume, but that is different from confirming that Phase 1 operates at its rated capacity.

Xiaomi’s annual reports and official factory statements are the places to look for a newer capacity disclosure. Any update should be checked against the earlier figures.

How to read future updates

  • Identify the measure first: capacity, production, or deliveries.
  • Check the period. A milestone reached in a set number of days is not an annual figure.
  • Note the publisher. Company statements and government reports describe the same plant from different positions.
  • Look for the phrase “rated capacity” or “annual production capacity” in the text before accepting a number as current.

Why this matters for personal finance readers

A planned capacity figure is a company or government plan, not evidence of revenue or margin. If you follow Xiaomi as an investment, the more useful inputs are the company’s audited annual reports and its own statements about deliveries and production, read with the periods and definitions above.

Note: the empty paragraph above is intentionally removed in the final markup.
