Xbox raised Canadian console and controller prices in May 2025, and later announced another worldwide console increase effective August 1, 2026. The 2025 report also said some new first-party games would reach US$79.99 by the 2025 holiday season. The available Canadian figures below are historical—not a current October 2026 price list.

What did Xbox say about games and Game Pass?
Microsoft said some new first-party games would cost US$79.99 by the 2025 holiday season. The reporting did not identify the affected titles, and the figure is not evidence that every Xbox game rose to that price or that US$79.99 was a verified Canadian store price. MobileSyrup described the amount as roughly C$110 at the time.
MobileSyrup reported Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at C$22.99 per month and said that subscription price would remain unchanged at the time of the May 2025 announcement. That report does not establish the subscription price in October 2026.

Why did Xbox raise prices?
For the May 2025 changes, Microsoft cited “market conditions and the rising cost of development,” according to reporting by MobileSyrup and The Associated Press. AP said Microsoft did not specifically point to tariffs in the explanation it reviewed; tariffs were part of the broader news context, not a confirmed company rationale for that decision. Microsoft also said, “We understand that these changes are challenging.” Read AP’s report on the 2025 announcement.
What changed again in August 2026?
In a separate announcement dated June 25, 2026, Xbox said worldwide console prices would rise effective August 1, 2026. It specified increases in U.S. dollars: US$100 for 512GB models and US$150 for 1TB models. Xbox also said it would sunset its 2TB model. The announcement does not provide a complete Canadian price list, so these U.S.-dollar increases cannot be used to calculate current Canadian retail prices.

Xbox attributed the later decision to rising console storage and memory costs, saying those costs had increased by more than 2.5 times and that it expected another doubling by fall 2027. Those figures and the forecast are Xbox’s statements, not independently established cost measurements in the announcement. Xbox characterized consoles as typically being sold below their manufacturing cost rather than at a profit. Read the June 25, 2026 Xbox Wire update.
The 2026 update discusses financing, buy-now-pay-later, previously played consoles and certified-refurbished options, but availability varies by region. It says certified refurbished consoles are available through Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP; it does not establish Canadian terms or availability.

How should Canadian buyers compare prices?
The figures above document what was reported in May 2025, not what a Canadian retailer charges today. Before buying, compare the same storage capacity and edition, check whether the Series X has a disc drive or is digital-only, and use the current price and availability from the seller you plan to use. For controllers, compare the exact tier—standard, Special Edition, Elite Series 2 Core or Elite Series 2—rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Because the 2026 announcement gives U.S.-dollar increases instead of Canadian model prices, do not add those amounts to the May 2025 Canadian figures or compare them as though they were prices in the same currency and at the same date.
