Xbox’s announced console price increases took effect August 1, 2026. On October 8, Microsoft’s U.S. Certified Refurbished catalog listed four Xbox Series S and Series X models below their displayed former prices. The offers are for refurbished consoles—not new ones—and prices and stock can change.

What “Certified Refurbished” means
Microsoft says these consoles are professionally inspected, cleaned, repaired, and tested; updated with current system software; and repackaged with standard accessories and manuals. The store’s FAQ says: “Certified Refurbished consoles are fully functional, updated with the latest system software, and repackaged with all necessary accessories.” Microsoft states that Xbox consoles include a 90-day warranty and that extended coverage is optional. Review the specific listing’s included items and warranty terms before buying.

Why Xbox prices went up
In a June 25, 2026 announcement, Xbox said worldwide price increases would take effect August 1: US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. It also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. Xbox attributed the increases to rising costs, saying console storage and memory prices had increased by more than 2.5 times and that it expected another doubling by fall 2027. Those component-cost figures are Xbox’s explanation, not an independently established market-wide measurement.
Choose by console tier, storage, and condition
The lowest listed price is for the Series S, while the Series X listings are higher-priced alternatives. They are different product tiers, so the Series S’s lower price is not a like-for-like discount on a Series X. Compare the exact model and storage you want, then weigh the listed reduction against the refurbished condition, warranty, accessories, and current stock.

Other affordability options Xbox described
Xbox said eligible hardware purchases through Microsoft Stores may have buy-now-pay-later options, and eligible purchases through partners may qualify for interest-free financing of up to 12 months. Payment options vary by region; third-party credit is subject to status, eligibility, and terms. The announcement also said Xbox was working with retail partners on lower-priced previously played consoles, but did not name sellers or provide current prices or terms. Treat those as announced options, not verified live deals.
