Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Yes, according to contemporary reporting: Tom’s Guide said on October 2, 2025, that Microsoft’s cancellation page temporarily crashed after Xbox announced Game Pass price increases on October 1, 2025. That report is secondary. No official Microsoft incident report, cause, outage length, or confirmed count of cancellations has been published in the sources available, so those details should be treated as unknown. If you need to cancel today, Microsoft’s account guidance gives two routes, covered below.
What was reported about the cancellation page
Tom’s Guide reported that a rush of users trying to unsubscribe coincided with the price announcement and that Microsoft’s cancellation page was briefly unavailable. The same report described an Amazon listing for Game Pass Ultimate digital codes during that period, but that detail does not bear on whether you can cancel now, so it is not covered here.
The reporting links the trouble to heavy cancellation traffic. It does not establish why the page failed. Readers sometimes take a page error as deliberate obstruction, but the reporting does not support that conclusion, and nothing reviewed shows Microsoft intended to block cancellations.
What is established and what is not
| Question | What the available sources establish |
|---|---|
| Did the cancellation page have trouble after the October 2025 price change? | Yes, per Tom’s Guide (October 2, 2025), described as temporary. |
| Why did it fail? | Not stated. No technical cause has been published in the sources reviewed. |
| How long was it down? | Not stated. The report does not give a duration. |
| How many people cancelled in that window? | Not stated. Social-media discussion and error reports are not a cancellation total. |
| Can subscribers cancel through Microsoft’s official channels? | Yes. Microsoft’s recurring-billing guidance describes the account dashboard and the Xbox console route. |
Current Game Pass prices: check your market
Microsoft publishes a worldwide price schedule for new members. For the United States it lists the following figures, which are the most useful reference points for a US reader:
#1 Best Overall
- FASTEST, MOST POWERFUL XBOX — Experience next-generation performance with 12 teraflops of processing power, delivering smoother gameplay, richer worlds, and faster responsiveness than any previous XBOX.
- TRUE 4K GAMING UP TO 120 FPS — Enjoy breathtaking visuals with true 4K resolution, HDR, and frame rates up to 120 FPS, plus hardware-accelerated ray tracing for a heightened level of realism.
- 1TB CUSTOM SSD AND XBOX VELOCITY ARCHITECTURE — Reduce load times dramatically with the custom 1TB NVMe SSD and XBOX Velocity Architecture, enabling lightning-fast performance and seamless world streaming.
- QUICK RESUME — Seamlessly switch between multiple games and resume exactly where you left off. No more waiting through title screens and loading bars.
- FOUR GENERATIONS OF GAMES — Play thousands of games from XBOX Series X|S, XBOX One, XBOX 360, and Original XBOX, with many titles enhanced for better visuals and performance on XBOX Series X.
| Plan (United States) | Listed current price | Listed new-member price |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Ultimate, monthly | $16.99 | $19.99 |
| PC Game Pass, monthly | $9.99 | $11.99 |
| Game Pass Core, 12 months | $59.99 | $74.99 |
The schedule covers new members and differs by market and currency. It is not a guaranteed renewal quote for your account. Your billing email, renewal notice, or the subscription details in your Microsoft account show the amount you will actually be charged. Outside the United States, use the price Microsoft shows for your country.
How to cancel Game Pass
Microsoft’s guidance lists two routes that do not depend on the web cancellation flow alone.

- Bundled with HDMI_Cable
Route 1: the Microsoft account dashboard
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that holds the subscription.
- Open the subscriptions or services section of the account dashboard.
- Select the Game Pass subscription and choose to cancel it or turn off recurring billing.
Route 2: the Xbox console
- Press the Xbox button and open Settings.
- Go to Account, then Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription and choose Cancel or Turn off recurring billing.
Cancel versus turn off recurring billing
Both options stop future recurring charges. What changes is when your access ends. Depending on refund eligibility, service may end immediately or continue to the end of the current billing period. The option labels and results can vary by account and region, so read the confirmation screen before you finish.
If a third party bills your subscription
If your Game Pass was bought through a retailer or other third party, Microsoft says to contact that provider about cancellation and refunds. Cancelling in the Microsoft account dashboard will not stop a charge that the third party controls.

If the cancellation page fails for you
- Try the other route. The console path and the account dashboard are separate entry points.
- Turn off recurring billing first. This stops the next renewal even if you decide to finish cancelling later.
- Note your billing date and the amount due. A price change takes effect on the next billing date.
- Take a screenshot of any error and the time you tried. It helps if you need to contact Microsoft support.
- Check your bank or card statement after the billing date to confirm whether a charge was made.
Notice of price changes
Microsoft says it gives at least 30 days’ notice before a price change. If you do not cancel, the new price starts on your next billing date. That makes the notice period the window to decide whether to keep the subscription at the new rate.
Microsoft’s recurring-billing guidance is written for the Microsoft account and references UK terms. If you live elsewhere, check the terms that apply in your country, because consumer cancellation and refund rules vary by jurisdiction.

The cloud-gaming limits announced for November 2026
A later change is more consequential for many subscribers than the 2025 page outage. On September 3, 2026, Xbox Wire announced that cloud gaming will have monthly hour limits starting in November 2026. Those limits had not taken effect as of this writing, and the announcement said pricing and other details would be shared before the change.
| Plan | Announced monthly cloud-gaming hours (from November 2026) |
|---|---|
| Ultimate | 15 hours |
| Premium | 10 hours |
| Essential | 5 hours |
Xbox says eligible subscribers could previously stream without these monthly hour limits, and that it expects the change to affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. Team Xbox put it this way in the announcement: “We expect this upcoming change to impact 4% of Game Pass subscribers.” Xbox also says players can buy additional playtime through the Xbox Store, and that cloud hours can be purchased without a Game Pass subscription to stream eligible games they own on supported devices. Check the official Xbox Wire post for final figures before you rely on them.

Bottom line for subscribers
Treat the 2025 cancellation-page report as a documented but temporary problem, not as an ongoing barrier. For cancelling now, use the account dashboard or the console route and turn off recurring billing if you need to stop the next charge quickly. Before November 2026, check your plan’s monthly cloud hours against how you actually play.
