Bungie announced a target launch price of $39.99 (US), €39.99 (euro pricing), and £34.99 (UK). When Steam’s Marathon listing was checked on October 8, 2026, the US base game was also $39.99. Optional spending exists, but it sits on top of the purchase and does not replace it.
What you pay to start
The base game requires a one-time purchase. Prices differ by currency and storefront, and taxes or conversion can change the amount shown at checkout, so the table below separates Bungie’s announced target from the live Steam listing.
| Item | Price | Source and date | What it means |

Why this is not a free-to-play model
A free-to-play game lets you start without buying the game itself, and earns money through optional purchases. Marathon works the other way: the base game is sold first, and optional spending comes after. Bungie’s December 15, 2025 announcement put it directly: “Purchasing Marathon will give you full access to the game, including a roadmap of free gameplay updates as the year progresses.”

- CLASSIC GRAPHICS AND SOUNDS: Immerse yourself in nostalgia with classic graphics, music, and sounds that look just like the original Tetris arcade game!
- AUTHENTIC GAMEPLAY: Use the joystick and buttons to move and rotate the Tetriminos as they fall to complete lines and score points!
- FULL COLOR SCREEN: With a brighter, full color screen that makes it easy to see the blocks, you’ll be racking up points like a pro as you stack your Tetriminos!
- MARATHON MODE: Race to line up your Tetriminos in rows before they stack too high. Complete 10 lines to move to the next level. But watch out - the Tetriminos drop faster the longer you play!
- SHARE AND COLLECT: Arcade Classics are a must-have retro toy for collectors or for anyone looking to share this classic toy with the next generation!
Bungie has also run limited-time trials. A June 2026 Open Play Week, which ran from June 2 to June 9, was a time-boxed event that has ended. A trial of that kind does not change the pricing model, and it should not be read as a permanent free tier.
What the purchase includes
Bungie’s March 2026 seasons article says seasonal updates bring new gameplay, gear, Runner shells, zones, and events that are free for all players to access or earn, with “no expansions or DLC required.” That covers the seasonal content Bungie describes. It does not mean every future item will be free, so read the statement as applying to the seasonal content it names.

Optional spending: LUX, SILK, and Credits
Marathon uses three currencies with different rules. Bungie’s in-game currency guide (undated, checked October 8, 2026) explains how each works.
LUX: the only currency bought with real money
LUX is premium currency bought through platform stores with real money. Players can spend it on cosmetic items for Runner shells, weapons, equipment, and profiles, and on the Premium track of a Reward Pass. Bungie states: “LUX can only be used to purchase cosmetic items from the in-game store or the Premium Reward Passes.” LUX does not buy gameplay advantages according to that description.
SILK: earned through play and used for Reward Pass progress
SILK is earned through Runner levels and gameplay XP. It is used to progress through Reward Pass rewards. The Deluxe Edition includes 200 SILK tokens, so SILK can also arrive through a purchase.
Credits: earned, never bought
Credits come from collecting in-game loot. Bungie’s guide says they are “not purchasable with real-world money.”

Reward Passes and how they are priced
Each Reward Pass has a free track and a Premium track. Bungie says passes do not expire at the end of a season, and that past and future passes can be purchased later. Its December 15, 2025 announcement said the company did not want players logging in out of fear of missing out, which is why passes were designed to remain available.
Bungie’s 2025 pricing announcement also said: “we believe in preserving competitive integrity in Marathon, so survival will never come down to how much money you spend.” Treat this as the company’s stated design commitment. The help guide supports the narrower point that LUX buys cosmetics and Premium Reward Pass access.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEditions: what the extra money buys
The official Marathon Editions and Pre-Order Guide lists the following contents.
- Deluxe Edition: a Premium Rewards Pass voucher, 200 SILK tokens, and weapon and Runner shell cosmetics.
- Collector’s Edition: a 1/6-scale Thief Runner Shell statue, a collectible WEAVEworm, an embroidered patch, postcards, and digital rewards.
The Deluxe Edition is a choice about extras, not a requirement for access. Buy it only if you want the voucher, the SILK, or the cosmetics. The sources do not establish current retail availability for either edition, so check the official store for stock and pricing.
What is planned, not yet delivered
Bungie’s September 24, 2026 update lays out a roadmap. These are plans, not completed releases:
- An October refresh to progression and rewards.
- A December “Symbiosis” update that introduces the first permanent PvE experience, along with other additions.
- A larger March evolution that connects PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences.
Roadmap dates can move, so do not budget around a specific feature arriving on a specific date.

- Start with the base price. Your entry cost is the local price of the base game on your platform, not the target figure from 2025.
- Decide whether the Deluxe Edition is worth its price difference. Compare the $59.99 Deluxe price with the $39.99 base price, and ask whether you would use the voucher, SILK, and cosmetics.
- Set a fixed cosmetic budget. LUX is bought with real money, so decide the monthly amount before opening the in-game store.
- Do not count on Credits or SILK as cash substitutes. Credits cannot be bought, and SILK is earned or comes with specific editions.
- Check the price on the day you buy. Sales, bundles, and currency or tax differences can change the total.
Storefront prices in this article were checked on October 8, 2026. Recheck them on the store you plan to buy from.
